E. MURPHY FRIES

She/Her

Murphy Fries is a partner with Koskie Glavin Gordon, where she primarily
represents trade unions and their members in a wide range of workplace issues,
in the areas of collective agreement interpretation, labour relations, human
rights, privacy rights, and benefits. She frequently advocates for unions before
labour arbitrators and the B.C. Labour Relations Board, and she has appeared
before the B.C. Supreme Court, the B.C. Court of Appeal, and the Federal Court.
She works to advance the rights of unions and their members, whether through
written and oral advocacy, or negotiating settlements to workplace disputes.
Murphy has particular expertise in the areas of disability and health benefits,
employee privacy, and human rights.

Murphy regularly volunteers with Access Pro Bono, providing summary advice
services. She has served on the Access to Justice Committee of the Canadian Bar
Association B.C. Branch (CBABC) and as a mentor with the University of British
Columbia’s Centre for Feminist Legal Studies Mentorship Program and the CBABC
Student Mentorship program. She is a frequent speaker at continuing legal
education workshops and courses and regularly provides legal education to unions
and their members.

Murphy holds a B.A., an LL.B., and an LL.M. in International Human Rights Law
and International Labour Rights. She was called to the British Columbia Bar in
2007.
