NEUROFEEDBACK

WHAT IS
NEUROFEEDBACK?

Neurofeedback is a technique that harnesses your brain’s natural ability to
change and adapt, a concept known as “neuroplasticity.” Using sensors, we can
monitor your brain’s electrical activity in real-time, rewarding it when it
improves. This data helps us create a personalised training program to improve
various aspects of brain function, from emotional health to cognitive
performance.

OUR SUCCESS
STORIES

I have just finished the meat of the first essay of three essays this year,
having had two sets of sessions with Brainworks. The experience has been utterly
extraordinary. I have loved writing it, I have loved the subject, I have loved
reading, analysing what I ve written and writing down my own thoughts. I have
understood, digested and focussed. I have completed this in the space of a week
and half and loved every minute of it. I still have a lot of editing to do, but
I do have the meat and the bones. Not only this, but recently I had a weekends
training and I not only enjoyed the lectures, but I was significantly involved
in the discussions afterwards and even asked multiple questions. What an
incredible difference from before.

I had two strokes before I came here and my memory, concentration, and my focus
and attention span were bad.  I couldn’t remember much at all.  After a few
sessions I started to notice a difference in the way I was at home.  After
neurofeedback I’m doing much better, I am driving and I wouldn’t drive before. I
wouldn’t communicate much and now I get out and go to a couple different groups
and go into crowds.  I am a teacher and now I can go back to work.

Jane

This is just a big thank you! What a remarkable treatment you offer, I have to
say that the difference it has made to me is enormous. I genuinely feel much
more at ease in myself and all the tension is going in my head and body. Not to
mention the increase in my focus both short term and long term. I actually feel
like I could make long term plans and stick to them !

I feel like I am more balanced, able to pull back from situations and look at
them, look at facts more than focus on what I’m feeling. Little things happen
that I react differently to. I don’t notice in the moment but very shortly
after, I realise I responded in a different way without thinking about it

This is life-changing for me. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Thank you. This was a completely different experience to anything I have ever
experienced before. I believe there is still a bit of work Neurofeedback wise to
do in executive functioning areas and I definitely still experience some things
emotionally that I think need work, but I am blown away by the difference.

FREQUENTLY ASKED
QUESTIONS

How long is a session

An hour

What is Neuroplasticity?

Our brains are constantly being shaped by experience. Most of us have very
different behaviours and thoughts today than we did 20 years ago. This shift is
neuroplasticity in action; changes in brain structure and organisation as we
experience, learn, and adapt.

An old dog can learn new tricks.

You can read more about Neuroplasticity on our blog.

What is LoRETA neurofeedback?

LoRETA stands for Low Resolution Electromagnetic Tomography.

You can read more about LoRETA here.

What is a QEEG Brainmap?

A QEEG brain map (or ‘Q’ for short) enables us to see how your brain is
processing information and where there is over or under activity. We also look
at how well the brain communicates with other areas of the brain.

You can find out more here

Do you use Brainwave Entrainment?

We rarely use brainwave music therapeutically; it is rather an imprecise tool
compared to other brain training methods.

You can find out more about Brainwave Entrainment here.

What are brainwaves?

Brainwaves are electrical impulses in the brain, and scientists measure them
using an EEG (electroencephalogram). There are different types of brainwaves,
each associated with different mental states.
You can read more about brainwaves on our blog.

Can Neurofeedback training itself make you Tired?

Some people find that neurofeedback sessions can make them temporarily tired, as
is the case with any form of exercise. Others find it energising. It all depends
on your baselines and goals.

What is the best neurofeedback for trauma and/or PTSD

There are many different kinds of neurofeedback training, however at Brainworks
Neurotherapy we use LoRETA neurofeedback with its detailed imaging and deep
brain training.

This means we can be both specific on targeting dysregulated areas and working
entire networks, such at the default mode or anxiety network.

Still have questions? Visit our comprehensive list of questions that people
commonly ask before their first neurofeedback session.

OUR NEUROFEEDBACK
PROCESS

Here is an outline of what the neurofeedback training process looks like. Keep
in mind that your training programme is tailored to your unique goals and
objectives.

Find out more about our sessions

Consultation Your starting point

1.

Consultation: Your Starting Point

During the free consultation we address your questions and determine if
neurofeedback is the right choice for you. We’ll ask you to complete a set of
forms and then discuss your objectives, history, and any symptoms to see if it
is the best way forward for you.

2.

The Assessment: We obtain a QEEG brain map by putting on a 19 channel sensor
cap; This looks and feels like a swimming cap.  We take readings for 5 minutes
eyes open and 5 minutes eyes closed.    We convert these readings of your brain
activity into brain maps   Analysis of these maps enables us to correlate your
unique patterns to the areas in  life that you are looking to change.  We review
the maps alongside your goals with you.

The Assessment

3.

Training Plan: Creating Your Brain’s Workout We design your unique brain
training protocols using data from your QEEG brain map, your forms and your
goals.  Every 6th session we re-map and adjust your protocol taking into account
how your brain is changing.

Training Plan Creating Your Brain’s Workout

4.

Neurofeedback Sessions: Relax in the comfort of your own home as our
neurofeedback therapist guides your session.

They will walk you through using the equipment and cap placement.  Our bespoke
software allows us to check the connectivity of every sensor.  Once that is
ready your brain’s activity will control a video, game, or music, providing
real-time feedback.  You get to choose what you watch from Youtube, Netflix etc.

Total session time is up to an hour with the training 20 to 45 minutes, with
periodic QEEG updates to refine your program.
