Hello there!  I am glad you're here.

I am Julie (she/her/hers) and I am a therapist who helps people explore
authenticity, vulnerability, and connection in a compassionate and empathic
way.  In the search for the right therapist, I know it's important to know a
little more about me and my background so below are some highlights & fun
facts.  If you have any questions or concerns for me, please reach out and let
me know!

Professional Me
My approach to therapy is authentic, genuine, and free of judgment so therapy
with me will feel comfortable (even when things get emotional or awkward)
because you will always be able to be undeniably & unapologetically yourself.
My goal is to help people grow emotionally so they can live their best lives.

While reading "Karamo: My Story of Embracing Purpose, Healing, and Hope," I read
the following passage.  It really stuck with me and is a philosophy that
resonates with me and influences my work with clients.

"I believe we can and will get better as a community and as a nation.  There is
a real way forward through empathetic listening.  Empathetic listening is so
important, because if all we do is talk, then we will never hear the other
person.  When we hear the other person, we come to realize that we all want joy
and love, and to be free of fears and anxieties.  We realize that the conflicts
facing us internally and those facing us externally are more universal than we
think.  It's when we support one another and respond to life's conflicts with
emotional awareness that we find growth and connection." - Karamo Brown

Academic Me
I attended St. Edward's University for my undergraduate & graduate degrees.  I
graduated in 2010 with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology & Criminology and in
2016 with a Master of Arts in Counseling.

Personal Me
I am a native Austinite and absolutely love it here; I have family in New
England and am greeted with "welcome home" when I go visit--so I feel fortunate
enough to have two places I can call home (and also feel home when I'm there).
One of my mantras is "Say yes & figure it out later"--a Tina Fey quote that has
inspired me to try new things (like a ballet class & heated yoga) and go on
adventures (like a solo trip to California).  Saying "yes" & being open to
experiences is something that has been monumental for me and I strive to share
that love of life with clients I work with.  I am a lover of animals, reader of
books, the cool aunt to two amazing nieces, and frequent visitor to local music
venues.

Fun Facts:
 * I have a cat named Godzilla (who I lovingly call Zilly) &  a dog named
Teeny.  Unfortunately (or fortunately), these fur babies don't join me at the
office, however, they are pictured below.
 * I have many tattoos and was once referred to as a tattooed Disney princess by
   another therapist in Austin.
 * I am a huge fan of Cheryl Strayed & Taylor Swift & Shaq.
 * I have volunteer experience working with male inmates at the Travis County
   Correctional Complex.
 * I'm a BIG lover of plants & nature, in general.
