SCOTTISH CENTRES OPEN MORE TERRAIN WITH IMPROVING CONDITIONS

Scottish ski centres are reporting their best conditions for about a month after
weeks of gales, torrential rain and other ‘weather issues’ finally let up at the
start of this week allowing fresh snow to settle on higher slopes and calmer
conditions for the five ski areas to take stock. Glencoe on the werst and the
closest centre to Glasgow appears to be is in the best shape att present,
re-opening this week with about half of its 20+ trails open. “Significant new

The Highlands ski resort:

“A great family resort, with as good a level of skiing as you will find in the
midwest. Not as lively as nearby Boyne Mountain resort for nightlife, but the
most acreage and elevation that you will find in the region. Good on-resort
rentals available, good food/drink and great snow-making, which is important
with the midwest weather. Great for beginners and kids looking to learn to
ski/snowboard. Great ski school. Updated high-speed lifts and RF technology for
passes. It's about as good as it gets in the midwest.”

Cypress Mountain ski resort:

“The nature of the complaints aren't exactly about how high the pricing is.
People are complaining that they're paying more for what they charged a few
years ago for a worse experience. Sure, Cypress can't control the weather, but
to charge full price for half the amount of runs is kind of ridiculous.”

Asahidake ski resort:

“I've been to Asahidake for several seasons. It used to be my little secret, no
lift lines, endless lift assisted pow runs. Those times are gone!

This year brought unbelievable waits at the lift lines during weekdays,
weekends, all days. Lift lines with no rules, with people cutting in line
constantly.

Many of these people are beginners or don't know the mountain, and I would
routinely see them walking the cat track, or stuck in the snow, barely able to
climb out.

If you are a beginner, or even an intermediate, this mountain is not for you.
There are no ropes showing boundaries, there is no ski patrol, and it's entirely
possible to die here. Almost every year someone dies on the mountain.

More annoying than the beginner skiers are the hikers. What do they want to do
on windy, cloudy, snowy day with zero visibility? Why some people want to bring
up their kids to the top of a mountain during a blizzard to walk around is
beyond me. You can't see anything!

I used to love Asahidake. Those days are unfortunately behind.

Behind a lift line that goes all the way down the stairs, out the door, and
wraps around the building.
