CALVIN EKSRIDGE

AUTHOR | WRITER

Brett, born and raised in Maine, graduated from public school in 1977. A true
testament to resilience, Brett began writing his memoir in 2015 after
experiencing a life-changing stroke. Despite the many challenges he faced,
Brett’s unwavering belief in himself, his humor, and his ability to connect with
others became his guiding lights.

As a husband, stepfather, and now a happy single man, Brett takes pride in the
life he has built, including owning his own home—an achievement he holds dear
after growing up in poverty.

AUTHOR’S PERSPECTIVE

“Life isn’t about avoiding challenges; it’s about meeting them head-on and
rising above. I hope my story inspires others to find strength within themselves
and create the life they deserve.”

WHAT READERS SAY?

“Comprehensively, The Edge of Dawn by author Brett turned out to be a biography
that was simultaneously enjoyable and thought-provoking. It demonstrated
self-love in action by the author withstanding the many hardships he faced
without much love and support, ultimately, he garnered enough love for himself
to continue to rise from the ashes of unfortunate circumstances each time he
came to near ruin and somehow rebuild his life.”

- PACIFIC BOOK REVIEW

Brett’s memoir powerfully recounts the challenges he faced due to racial
injustice, including segregated schools, a biased military draft during the
Vietnam War, and workplace discrimination. He reflects on growing up in poverty,
the struggles of his career, and the impact of historical events like the
assassination of Martin Luther King Jr. Despite these obstacles, Brett’s
determination and resilience led him to achieve personal milestones, such as
homeownership. Through his story, he encourages readers to persevere, make wise
decisions, and embrace self-love to overcome adversity.
