As the 2030 ban on the sale of new diesel and petrol cars gets closer,
manufacturers are launching an ever-increasing number of new battery electric
vehicles.

Here we look at 14 of the most important models for fleets on the horizon.

AUDI A6 E-TRON

Available: Early 2024

Range: More than 400 miles

Audi will enter the electric executive saloon space next year with the A6 e-tron
and A6 Avant e-tron. Only a concept version of the new model has been revealed
so far, but it suggests the A6 e-tron will have little in common with the
existing A6.

Like the current Audi e-tron GT , the A6 e-tron is being co-developed with
Porsche. It is expected to use a 100kWh battery, giving a range of around 430
miles, and have a power output of 470PS. A cheaper version may also be offered,
with a 300-mile range.

The car will be capable of adding 186 miles worth of range in just 10 minutes
and will have an estimated starting price of £60,000.

BMW I5

Available: October

Range: 362 miles

The electric BMW 5 Series will become a reality this year, filling the gap
between the current i4 and i7 models in the car maker’s line-up.

Sales are set to commence in October, when company car drivers will be able to
order the eDrive40 variant and a range-topping M60 model. An estate version will
follow in 2024.

BMW has kept the i5’s finer details a secret, for now, but it’s anticipated that
the eDrive40 will use the same powertrain and battery as the same derivative in
the i4 line-up. So, expect an 83.9kWh battery pack and a 340PS motor driving the
rear wheels. The car is said to have a 362-mile range and the ability to charge
from 10% to 80% in less than 30 minutes.

A new Highway Assistant feature, borrowed from the new 7 Series, will provide
hands-off assisted motorway driving and automated lane changing. There’s also
rear-wheel steering to enhance driveability.

Prices are expected to start at around £70,000.

---------------------------------------

BMW I4 EDRIVE 35

Available: Summer

Range: 299 miles

BMW is expanded the line-up for its i4 electric car, with a new entry-level
eDrive35 variant.

It is priced from £49,995 (on-the-road), making it almost £8,000 cheaper than
the next model up in the range (eDrive40).

The eDrive35 is fitted with a 70.2kWh battery, giving a WLTP range of up to 299
miles. The rear-mounted drive unit develops 286PS and enables a 0-62mph
acceleration time of 6.0 seconds.

CUPRA TAVASCAN

Available: Early 2024

Range: 341 miles

The Tavascan will be Cupra's second fully electric model, joining the existing
Born in its line-up.

Its sharp looks mirror those of the concept model, first revealed in 2019. The
production version carries over the coupe silhouette and aggressive front end
design which incorporates air channels in the bonnet.

The interior architecture is also new for the brand, with a large T-shaped
central console giving a wraparound cockpit-style feel to the driver.

Based on the Volkswagen Group’s MEB platform, the Tavascan will be available
with two power outputs. A single motor variant, using VW Group's newest electric
powertrain, delivers 286PS, while a a dual-motor all-wheel drive version - known
as VZ - produces 340PS.

Cupra says the Tavascan VZ can reach 31mph in just 2.4 seconds and accelerate
from zero to 62mph in 5.6 seconds.

All variants use a 77kWh battery, providing a range of around 341 miles for the
single motor and 321 miles for the dual motor variant. An additional 62 miles of
range can be added in as little as seven minutes, using a rapid charger. The
battery can be charged from 10% to 80% in just under half an hour using a 135kW
charging point.

FORD EXPLORER

Available: Late 2023

Range: 335 miles

The Explorer will join Ford's growing electric line-up as part of its
partnership with VW Group, using the same underpinnings as the VW ID 4.

It's expected that Ford will start taking orders for the car in the spring, with
first deliveries commencing at the end of the year. Prices will start at around
£40,000.

The Explorer will offer three powertrain options, closely mirroring those
offered in the ID 4. The entry-level single motor rear-wheel-drive model
produces 170PS and has a range of 218 miles from its 55kWh (52kWh useable)
battery.

A larger 82kWh (77kWh useable) battery extends the range to 335 miles and boosts
power to 286PS.

At the top of the range, a twin motor setup is available with the larger
battery. It produces 340PS and has a range of 305 miles.

Ford has given the Explorer its own body and interior, setting it apart visually
from the VW. The Explorer is shorter and lower than its counterpart, with a
slightly smaller 450 litre boot.

On the inside, a large portrait infotainment screen runs Ford's SYNCMove
software and Ford promises high-quality materials. The digital instrument
display and gear selector appear to carry-over from the VW.

HYUNDAI KONA ELECTRIC

Available: Late 2023

Range: 300 miles

Hyundai’s all-new Kona will go on sale this summer, with an electric version set
to launch shortly after.

The new Kona’s design was led by the electric version, taking inspiration from
the brand’s Ioniq line-up.

Hyundai has kept details of the Kona's powertrains quiet, but has revealed that
the Kona Electric will be offered with two new battery options. There will be a
48.4kWh Standard Range model and a 65.4kWh Long Range version. The latter is
expected to offer a WLTP range of more than 300 miles.

Thanks to its larger dimensions, the Kona's boot now offers 466 litres of
luggage space, up from the old model's 332 litres.

KIA EV9

Available: late 2023

Range: 336 miles

The Kia EV9 will go on sale towards the end of the year and will join the EV6 as
Kia's second electric car to use a dedicated platform.

It will use a 100kW battery, giving a range of up 336 miles and the ability to
add almost 150 miles worth of range in 15 minutes.

There will be a Single Motor variant that produces 204PS and a Twin Motor model
with 385PS.

The car has a bold, boxy design that puts the focus on maximising interior space
and passenger comfort. Its long wheelbase, low beltline, and completely flat
floor facilitates the creation of generous space for all occupants in all three
rows of seats. The car is offered in both six- and seven-seat formats.

---------------------------------------

PEUGEOT E-308

Available: mid-2023

Range: 248 miles

Following the launch of petrol, diesel and plug-in hybrid versions last year,
the Peugeot 308 will gain an electric powertrain in 2023.

Known as the e-308, both hatchback and estate versions of the new electric model
will be offered, bolstering the existing 308 line-up.

Peugeot has confirmed the e-308 will be fitted with an all-new 54kWh battery,
which will power a 156PS electric motor. A range of up to 248 miles will be
possible.

Other elements of the car, such as its eye-catching styling and premium
interior, will remain as before.

Prices are expected to start at around £35,000.

POLESTAR 3

Available: mid-2023

Range: 379 miles

Polestar will expand its model line-up this year with the launch of the Polestar
3. The new model has a WLTP range of 379 miles, courtesy of a 111kWh battery
pack.

It will enter the premium end of the market, alongside cars like the BMW iX and
Audi Q8 e-tron.

From launch, the car will be available with a dual-motor configuration, with a
power bias towards the rear. The standard car produces a total of 489PS and
840Nm. With the optional Performance Pack, total output is 516PS and 910Nm.

Adjustable one-pedal drive is included, as well as an electric Torque Vectoring
Dual Clutch function on the rear axle. A decoupling function is also available
for the rear electric motor, allowing the car to run only on the front electric
motor to save energy under certain circumstances.

SMART #1

Available: summer

Range: 273 miles

The Smart #1 will go on sale this summer with a starting price of £35,950,
kickstarting a new era for the brand.

The all-new electric crossover is larger and more luxurious than Smart models of
old. It combines Mercedes-Benz design with Geely engineering.

Using Geely's EV-specific SEA platform, the car offers seating for five adults
and a 421-litre boot.

The Smart #1 is powered by a 272PS electric motor and a 62kWh battery, with
150kW DC rapid charging capability. It has a range of up to 273 miles.

---------------------------------------

TESLA MODEL 3 LONG RANGE RWD

Available: June

Range: 394 miles

Tesla will introduce a new variant of the Model 3, specifically for fleet
customers.

The single-motor Long Range RWD joins the line-up with a WLTP range of 394
miles.

The new derivative is priced at £46,990 and comes equipped with a heat-pump,
Autopilot and a series of active safety features such as Automatic Emergency
Braking and Lane Departure Avoidance.

VOLVO EX90

Available: Autumn

Range: 373 miles

The new seven-seat Volvo EX90 SUV will have a range of up to 373 miles when it
goes on sale later this year.

Poised to replace the existing XC90 large SUV, the EX90 was developed alongside
the new Polestar 3.

It features the same 111kWh battery and two electric motors, delivering up to
517PS and 910Nm of torque.

Priced from around £100,000, the EX90 can charge from 10 to 80% battery capacity
in under 30 minutes and will have bi-directional charging capability.

Volvo says the new model offers a higher standard of safety than any Volvo car
before it. Exterior sensors such as cameras, radars and lidar are connected to
the car’s high-performance core computers.

Inside, sensors gauge eye concentration to understand when the driver is
distracted, drowsy or otherwise inattentive, beyond what has been possible in a
Volvo car to date. If the driver falls asleep or is taken ill while driving, the
EX90 is designed to safely stop and call for help.

VAUXHALL ASTRA-E

Available: mid 2023

Range: 248 miles

Like the Peugeot 308, the Vauxhall Astra will also gain an electric Astra-e
variant this year. The two Stellantis models will offer the same specs, so
expect a range of around 250 miles and a power output of 156PS.

The Astra-e will be a key fleet model for Vauxhall, which is hoping the recently
updated model will draw in a larger crowd of user choosers attracted by its
enhanced desirability.

Vauxhall recently announced a GSE sub-brand to provide sportier version of its
electrified cars, so a hotter version of the Astra-e could be on the cards.

VW ID 7

Available: Autumn

Range: 438 miles

VW will expand its ID line-up this autumn with the launch of the ID 7, a large
fastback that maximises space and range.

At more than five metres long the ID 7 will be similar in size to the BMW i5 and
sit above the Arteon in VW’s range.

The car will be offered with a 77kWh battery, providing a range of 382 miles,
and an 86kWh unit that gives a claimed range of 438 miles.

A new electric motor will power the ID 7’s rear wheels, providing 286PS. A more
potent all-wheel-drive GTX variant is also on the cards.

The ID 7 has a plusher interior than other VW ID models, although the dashboard
is still largely centred around a touchscreen display with no physical
switchgear.

Prices are expected to start at around £50,000 when the new model opens for
ordering in the summer.

A GUIDE TO FLEET ELECTRIFICATION: A SPECIAL DIGITAL REPORT.

Fleet News has published a digital report offering advice to any business taking
those first steps into the world of electric vehicles, while laying out the
challenges to those yet to start their transition.

Companies operating fleets of cars and vans have less than seven years until
they will no longer be able to buy full petrol and diesel vehicles.

For many, that means a maximum of two replacement cycles.

Yet a large proportion have not started to consider the implications for their
businesses; some have no plans to look at electric vehicle scenarios until close
to the 2030 deadline, according to Fleet News surveys.

A few still believe the Government will soften its stance and push back the
deadline due to the current supply delays.

These businesses are playing a high-risk strategy: transitioning to electric is
rarely straightforward.

Among the many considerations are the installation of workplace charging
infrastructure, reimbursement policies and the possible reworking of daily
workflows and journey plans to accommodate vehicles, particularly light
commercial vehicles, with less range.

The Fleet News Guide to Running an Electric Fleet will help companies to take
those first steps, offering advice to speed up and simplify the process.

It also details the electric vehicles coming soon from Audi, BMW, Cupra, Ford,
Kia, Hyundai, Peugeot, Polestar, Tesla, Vauxhall, Volvo and Volkswagen.

Report sponsors Allstar, ATS Euromaster, Europcar, Northgate Vehicle
Hire, Zenith and Webfleet also offer their advice for a smooth and speedy
transition.
