The situation in #Gaza remains dire. The health sector is being
systematically dismantled and pushed to the breaking point, its resilience
tested amid acute shortages of medical supplies, equipment, and specialized
staff. Hospitals have become battlegrounds, putting them out of service and
depriving those in need of lifesaving care. Despite the challenging
environment, WHO and partners are doing all they can to keep hospitals and
health services operational. We repeat our call: 🔹 for the protection of
healthcare 🔹 for an expedited pace of medical evacuations and use of all
corridors from Gaza to get patients out, 🔹 for sustained access to
hospitals, 🔹 for increased flow of aid into and across Gaza 🔹 and for an
   urgent and lasting ceasefire!

This time five years ago, WHO’s emergency response mechanism for #COVID19 was
fully operational, and work was ongoing to assess and respond to reports of
pneumonia cases of a then-unknown cause in China. WHO had begun communicating
with its Member States on what was known about the cluster of cases.   WHO
had started using its social media channels to share initial updates, and on
5 January, WHO shared detailed information with countries through its Event
Information System. The event notice advised countries to take precautions to
reduce the risk of acute respiratory infections.   On 5 January as well, WHO
issued its first Disease Outbreak News (DON) on the situation. DONs are a key
tool WHO uses to inform not only national authorities, but also media and the
public about disease outbreaks and other public health concerns. They contain
WHO’s risk assessment and advice. By the end of January, WHO had issued 4
DONs on COVID-19 before switching to daily situation reports from 21 January
onwards.   These early steps—rapid information-sharing, collaboration with
countries, and risk assessments—illustrate WHO’s role in detecting and
responding to health threats. Lessons in these areas continue to shape global
preparedness and response efforts today.   Read the
   DONs: https://bit.ly/40pXclo

Work overload, unsafe working conditions, discrimination and job insecurity
are not just workplace issues, they are mental health risks that can affect
the overall quality of life and participation or productivity at work. Mental
health risks, also called psychosocial risks, may be related to job content
or work schedule, specific characteristics of the workplace or opportunities
for career development among other things. All workers have the right to a
healthy working environment. Healthy working environments provide: 🔵 a
livelihood 🔵 a sense of confidence, purpose and achievement 🔵 an
opportunity for positive relationships and community inclusion 🔵 a platform
for structured routines With an estimated 60% of the global population in
work, urgent action from workplaces is needed to prevent mental health risks,
protect and promote mental health and support those with mental health
conditions to thrive at work. Managers trained to manage their stress and
address their team's stressors can effectively support their teams and foster
a healthier work environment. A few ways can support your mental health at
work: 🔵 learn techniques to manage stress 🔵 watch out for changes in your
mental health 🔵 reach out for support from a trusted friend, family member,
   colleague, supervisor, or health professional
