Implants

A dental implant is a titanium support which is inserted into the jaw in the
position of a missing tooth/teeth. It is a quality, long-term solution to
replace missing teeth.

How dental implants can be used:

 * 1 implant can replace 1 or 2 missing teeth.
 * 2 implants can replace 3 or 4 missing teeth. An Implant retained bridge
replaces a few teeth missing next to one another.
 * 4 to 6 implants can support an entire arch of an implant retained denture or
porcelain bridge. It replaces entire arches of missing teeth, often where the
denture has poor stability or function.

Benefits of dental implants

When replacing one or two teeth the great benefit of implants is the finished
crowns feels just like your natural teeth and are easily cleaned and maintained.
The benefits of replacing a denture with an implant supported denture or bridge
is that it improves your quality of life by improving your appearance, your
ability to eat and your health. Provided you have a good oral hygiene regime
(which your dentist is happy to discuss with you), and have regular check-ups,
your dental implants can last 30+ years.

Placement of a dental implant is a staged process and all relevant information
will be discussed before treatment commences.

Sedation

Don’t let a previous bad dental experience prevent you from seeking dental
treatment. We offer nitrous oxide (happy gas) as an option for anxious patients
of all ages. It helps to make the appointment more comfortable. It is a safe
option with a relatively quick recovery and adult patients can usually drive
themselves home.

Alternatively, we have a visiting qualified anaesthetist that allows us to offer
you treatment under IV (conscious) sedation. This enables you to have dental
work done with minimal stress. Under conscious sedation you will remain
conscious, however you will have limited to no recollection of your dental
treatment and will be attended to by a registered nurse during your immediate
recovery. A Medicare rebate is available to help cover the cost of IV
(conscious) sedation.

Cosmetics

Veneers – Dental veneers are a modern technique that can be used to change the
shape, alignment and/or colour (shade) of teeth towards the front of the mouth.
They’re essentially a thin shell of either porcelain or composite (white
filling) material that is bonded to the front of the tooth to improve its
appearance. The procedure to place veneers causes minimal discomfort and in some
instances can greatly improve the appearance of front (anterior) teeth. Veneers
are custom made to suit your individual needs. Call Bridge Dental and book a
consult to discuss if this is a suitable option for you.

Teeth Whitening – Teeth whitening is a cosmetic procedure that helps to lighten
teeth by removing stains and discolouration. Teeth whitening products contain
peroxide (Carbamide or Hydrogen peroxide). You can whiten your teeth with
over-the-counter treatments, but professional treatment will likely lead to more
effective results without damaging your tooth enamel. A higher percentage of
peroxide is usually required to obtain good results, and only registered dental
practitioners can dispense these. Some products available over the counter (as
well as online and in shops) can be very abrasive. It is best to whiten your
teeth under the supervision of a registered practitioner.

Facial Injectables – At Bridge Dental we offer facial injectables as part of
your comprehensive treatment plan. Facial injectables include anti-wrinkle
treatment (for instance Botox or Dysport) and dermal fillers. These treatments
are aimed to improve lines and wrinkles and to enhance soft tissues (for
instance lip fulness or downturned corners of the lips). Dentists’ training is
all about the face. A thorough understanding of facial structures and anatomy is
gained over the course of their education and with this expertise it allows
dentists to make procedures more comfortable (with for instance delivering
effective anaesthesia). Injectables for wrinkles help to relax muscles to fight
the ageing process. Deep wrinkles can be improved, but it often takes multiple
treatments before they start to disappear. It is more effective to intervene
early (often in a patient’s 20s, 30s or 40s) before wrinkles are deeply set.  By
starting anti-wrinkle treatments with facial injectables early, you prevent the
muscle contraction which causes wrinkles to form in the first place.
Anti-wrinkle treatments are often used in the upper face (frown, forehead and
crow’s feet) and usually lasts 3 – 4 months (after multiple treatments the
effect can last for up to 6 months).

Fillers can be used to fill out under deeper skin folds or deficient tissue such
as thin lips, also adding to skin health. Dermal fillers used at Bridge Dental
contain hyaluronic acid. This substance occurs naturally in the body and helps
to hydrate and provide volume to the skin. Treatment usually lasts for 12
months, but can last up to 18 months. Don’t hesitate to contact the team at
Bridge Dental if you are interested in discussing these options further.

Denture Clinic

With an on-site Dental Prosthetist, Bridge Dental is proud to have a designated
denture clinic on-site. The benefit to the patient is that the clinician you
consult with, is also the person that does most of the work behind the scenes
with the aid of his team of technicians. Most work does not have to be sent
away, resulting in quicker turnaround times and avoiding communication errors.
The aim is to provide the patient will all possible treatment options, including
acrylic and metal frame dentures, implant-retained dentures, relines and same
day denture repairs and modifications. We also encourage patients to have a
yearly oral health check and cancer screening done, even if they are edentulous
(have no natural teeth). We also encourage patients to have their denture/s
professionally polished and cleaned once a year.

On-site Laboratory

Bridge Dental offers a comprehensive dental laboratory, manufacturing acrylic,
metal and porcelain prosthetics. This means that all dentures and most crowns,
veneers and bridges are made on-site. We have the latest technology available
including digital denture design, 3D printing of dentures and milling of
crowns/bridges/veneers (CAD-CAM). It all leads to shorter turnaround times and
some treatments can even be completed on the same day (most veneers/crowns).

Orthodontics

At Bridge Dental we are happy to offer Invisalign treatment to suitable
patients. Invisalign ® treatment is a series of clear plastic removable
orthodontic aligners that gently move patients’ teeth.

We also have a visiting specialist orthodontist, Dr Andrew Tindall that visits
our clinic every second Wednesday. View his website here.

Emergency Dental Services

Each day we reserve a number of appointments for emergency care. If you
experience any sort of dental emergency during our normal consulting hours just
phone us as early in the day as possible (reception staff are available from 8am
– 5pm every weekday) and explain your problem.

FAQ

Is Bridge Dental a health fund network provider?

Bridge Dental accepts dental extras from all major health funds. We process the
benefits from your health fund immediately and reduce your account accordingly.
We are, however, not a health fund network provider (sometimes called ‘preferred
providers’).

Dentists who become providers for health fund networks, such as Bupa ‘Members
First’, Medibank ‘Members Choice’ and HCF ‘More for Teeth’, enter into a
contract where they offer services as dictated by the insurance company.

At Bridge Dental we are committed to offering you the treatment that is best
suited to you and your oral health. We believe that decisions relating to your
treatment should be between your treating dentist and yourself, they should not
include the interests of a third party (the insurance company) whose primary
focus often is to make a profit. Most members choose to contribute to a health
fund to ensure some choice over their treatment provider. The health fund
network schemes may undermine this choice with respect to your dental care.

The Australian Dental Association (ADA) does not support health fund network
provider contracts. Further information is available from the ADA website.

I don’t have a tooth ache, so why should I visit a dentist?

Early dental decay is often not painful and you may not be aware of it. If decay
is left undiagnosed and untreated it spreads deeper into the tooth. This can
lead to a dental infection, with symptoms including tooth ache, sensitivity to
hot and cold, pain on eating, and sometimes inability to sleep due to pain.

It is much simpler (and less expensive) to treat early decay than it is to treat
a dental infection. Even better, regular visits to a dentist can help you to
avoid dental decay.

How often should I visit the dentist?

Current research suggests that the frequency of check-ups should be based on a
careful review of a patient’s risks, including their medical and dental history,
oral hygiene, dietary habits and so on. Most patients should visit the dentist
at least once a year and if there are growth and risk factors at play, some
patients may need to visit every 3 – 6 months. After your initial visit, a
recall schedule will be recommended. Even edentulous patients should visit at
least once a year. Dentures don’t need replacement every year, but it is still
worthwhile to have the dentures assessed (fit) and possibly professionally
polished every year. It is also important to have an oral health assessment
done, to screen for instance for oral cancer.

Should I visit the dentist regularly if I have full dentures and no teeth?

Dentures don’t need replacement every year, but it is still worthwhile to have
the dentures assessed (fit) and possibly professionally polished every year. It
is also important to have an oral health assessment done, to screen for instance
for oral cancer.

Why is it important for children to start dental visits early on in life?

Good oral health should be a lifelong goal and it is important to start with not
only education, but also good experiences at the dentist from an early age. Most
adults that are anxious about dentistry, had some bad experience at the dentist
as children, we aim to prevent this as far as possible. We often start seeing
children as young as only a year old, to start building a relationship. We are
also happy to help with advice and care of babies, there are often questions,
especially with the eruption of 20 baby teeth often before the age of 2!

How does the government scheme supporting dental care for kids work?

The federal government’s Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS) offers a great
opportunity to improve kids’ oral health.

Eligible children aged 2-17 years can access up to $1013 in benefits over a
two-year period for basic dental services including check-ups, x-rays, cleaning,
fissure sealing, fillings, root canals, extractions and partial dentures.

Eligibility is based on certain government benefits such as Family Tax Benefit
Part A. If you’re uncertain about your eligibility phone our reception team who
can help you check.

Eligible children can thus receive gap free treatment until they reach the $1013
cap.

How much will a visit to the dentist cost?

Our reception staff are able to tell you the cost (more or less) for and
emergency consult/treatment or an initial check-up, x-rays, and a scale and
clean. If you need further treatment your dentist will prepare a treatment plan
for you and explain the costs of this treatment.

How do I pay for dental treatment?

We require payment in full on the day of your treatment and accept cash and
credit/debit cards. You can also use your health care rebate to pay towards
treatment, claims are made on the day of treatment via HICAPS.

What if I can’t afford the treatment you recommend?

If you feel concerned about your ability to pay, especially where your treatment
plan requires services over an extended period, talk to us about possible
payment plan. We don’t want you to delay or forgo treatment to the detriment of
your oral health. At present we have options available via Zippay and Zipmoney
for patients to utilise.

If you have a Health Care Card or your income (after tax) is less than $45000
per year you may be eligible for the community-based Dental No Interest Loan
Scheme (NILS) which offers interest free loans between $300 and $1200 to fund
dental treatment. Call Uniting Communities on 1800 615 677 to let them know that
you are interested in applying for a Dental NILS loan.

Do you accept benefits paid by health funds and government funded programs?

Yes, any dental benefits from your health fund will be processed immediately and
your account will be reduced accordingly.

We also accept all current government dental schemes including the General
Dental Scheme, the Pensioner Denture Scheme, the Emergency Dental Scheme,
Veterans Affairs and the child Dental Benefits Schedule.

What happens if I experience a dental emergency?

Each day we reserve a number of appointments for emergency care. If you
experience any sort of dental emergency during our normal consulting hours just
phone us as early in the day as possible (reception staff are available from 8am
every weekday) and explain your problem.

I heard you have an on-site laboratory. What does that mean?

We are able to offer a range of treatments that can be completed on the same
day, for instance most crowns and veneers. Before the laboratory was available,
work had to be sent to outside laboratories and it would usually take two weeks
to complete these treatments. We can also offer denture relines and most denture
repairs as a same day service.

I want to know more about whitening?

Bridge Dental offers professional whitening. Although there are some options
available to purchase products in supermarkets, pharmacies or even online, it is
safer and treatment more effective if done under the supervision of a registered
dental professional. Please see more information about this service here.

What are injectables?

Anti-wrinkle treatment (for instance Botox or Dysport) and dermal fillers are
cosmetic options to improve wrinkles, lines or give tissues a fuller appearance.
We have dentists trained specifically to provide this treatment. Learn more
about this service here.

I am very anxious about visiting the dentist. What options do I have?

Our dentists are focused on providing caring and gentle treatment solutions. We
have options available to provide treatment using nitrous oxide (‘happy gas’) or
under conscious (IV) sedation. Learn more about this service here.
