Challenges to Scope 3 Data Collection Email not displaying correctly? View it in your browser. Hello Josef If you’re stressed about responsibilities related to your Scope 3 greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions data, you're not alone. More than 50,000 companies globally will need to comply with EU and US climate disclosure rules that include reporting requirements for Scope 3 GHG emissions, which includes supply chain emissions. But gathering this data – let alone ensuring it’s decision-useful – poses some vexing obstacles. Scope 3 emissions data are among the hardest to collect and process. Why? * With 15 different categories, setting organizational reporting boundaries for Scope 3 is far more complex than it is for Scopes 1 and 2. * Early in the journey, many companies rely on lower quality GHG calculation methods and data sources for Scope 3 – but this may wildly over- or underestimate your true emissions. * Suppliers can understandably be resistant to answering emissions data requests, and resources are short to chase them down or incentivize and support their efforts. Our latest blog explores what Scope 3 emissions are, why they are so hard to measure and how you can overcome these challenges.
