THE STORIES BEHIND THE ART

 * DADABA

   The ‘dadaba’ piece which means daddy’s
   girl in the Ghanaian language, is a representation of how African fathers
   spoil
   their daughters and teach them what to expect from the men in their lives.
   This
   luxurious piece, like the art it depicts, has the symbol of ‘nkyinkyin’
   embedded in it which means toughness.

 * ODENEHO

   This piece whose name translates to ‘he/she who
   is of himself/herself’ is a depiction of an independent African woman who is
   confident. Mixed with African print patterns, this piece is bold and
   beautiful

 * SANKOFA

   Literally
   meaning ‘going back for it’, the Sankofa symbol is a representation of the
   need
   of the African people to go back and reclaim our culture and heritage. The
   geese as a symbol is a reminder of how beautiful the culture of our
   forefathers
   really was. Painted on green fabric to represent the forest of Africa, this
   piece is the loudest African tone out there.

 * THE MASK

   The inspiration
   for the piece came from you, yes you. It portrays how each and everyone wears
   a
   mask to hide our fears, sadness and imperfections in tough times.

   We at 4style believe that
   acceptance is key in the healing process. Hidden in the mask is the
   ‘kokromote’
   symbol which represents approval. This piece is a real representation of that
   belief. This knee length, white, one-piece is perfect for almost every
   occasion

 * AKATASIA

   Simply meaning a
   well mannered young girl, this piece represents the bold, confident and
   elegant
   young African woman ready to conquer the world.

 * AKUABA

   This
   particular piece is inspired by a Ghanaian folklore about a barren woman
   called
   Akua who cried to the gods for a child till they curved a wooden doll for
   her.
   After taking care of the doll judiciously, it become a real child hence the
   ‘Akuaba’ to mean Akua’s child.

 * OHENE

   Which means king
   is depicted in this piece. The adinkra symbol on the head represents calmness
   and serenity.

 * MEDO

   Translated to mean ‘my love’, the art depicts a
   man and woman tangled passionately together. It has the adinkra symbol,
   ‘sankofa’ which means we can always go back for love

 * OKWANTUNI

   The piece is a
   depiction of a traveller going on a journey. With him is a bagthat is an
   adinkra symbol, oseam which is the moon. The moon as a symbol signifies
   peace.
