Renowned glass company, Hirota Glass Co. began in 1899 in the Sumida ward of
outer Tokyo. Founder, Kinta Hirota, started his 100-year-old business
manufacturing drinking glasses and later, with the rise in popularity of loose
wrapped candy in the 1920s: candy jars.

While new designs are still being developed today, Hirota continues to mine its
répertoire of beloved designs to produce glassware like Hirota’s Taisho period
opalescent glasses (1910-1926) made in varying patterns of milky white hues,
perfect for cold sake drinks or cold tea, or Hirota’s Showa era drinking glasses
with thick textured sides and heft, perfect for a warm coffee or tea on a cold
day.

The start-to finish- handmade process of Hirota Glass makes for the highest
quality possible and the total artistry expresses a sense of warmth when touched
or seen on the dining table. Current head Tatsuaki Hirota boldly continues the
legacy of his great, great, great grandfather creating glassware that captures
Japan’s rich cultural epochs for the modern household.

Happa Stand blends the Japanese traditional concepts of tea and vessels with the
chic and modern lifestyle.

The name originates from the Japanese word “Happa” meaning leaves to cause
nature and environmental awareness. Also, the word “Happa” simply has a happy
vibe and could be written as “88” and could be pronounced Happa. The number 8
has been known for fortune and good luck both in the Eastern and Western
cultures throughout the years.

Happa Stand’s flagship store located in Mino city of Gifu Prefecture, known for
the preservation of ancient Japanese cityscapes. The store which used to be an
old residence that was built more than 150 years ago has been renovated with
beams and pillars left from the original construction.

Happa Stand suggests the “Iki” lifestyle, which is the Japanese version of
chicness through their products and store.

TOKONAME WARE

Tokoname ware (Tokoname-yaki) is a type of Japanese pottery, stoneware, and
ceramics produced in and around the municipality of Tokoname, Aichi in central
Japan. Tokoname was the location of one of the Six Ancient Kilns of Japan.

Tokoname ware is well known for “kyu-su” manufacturing, which are traditional
style tea pots with built-in ceramic filters.

Kanno Weavery is a tenugui (Japanese hand towels) and towel manufacturer based
in Osaka since 1898.
While there are multiple ways to dye and print tenugui patterns, Kanno Weavery
works with craftsmen who specialize in a dying technique traditionally called
“Chuu-sen”, which makes the finish even on both sides of the fabric.

A small leather goods company based in the industrial outskirts of Tokyo,

Sakura is run by a third generation female CEO. Started by her grandfather, a
skilled leather craftsman who originally began crafting leather bags and belts
for Japanese department stores, Sakura has evolved into its own brand of fine
leather goods designed in house under the direction of the family matriarch.

Their brand of leather goods focuses on traditional hand-craft for modern use,
evidenced by their simple line of black leather pouches with metal hardware that
evokes a classic feel for modern tools: iPads and laptop computers. Proudly
‘Made in Japan’, this small company of leather craftspeople look to the future -
while vigorously preserving the past.

Picus started their business in 2009 to provide products that attracts many
users who are long-time users regardless of trend. The “Pure Brass” series such
as the card cases, and trays were launched in 2011.

Now Picus makes original designs mainly focusing on desktop items made of pure
brass, pure copper, and stainless steel for users to be able to feel and enjoy
the texture and secular change.

Tokyo-based stationary brand Craft Design Technology was not named haphazardly.
The company exists at the apex of its three named elements, with stationary
products existing at their intersection, namely, perfect symbioses of craft,
design and technology.

The result is effortlessly thoughtful tools for the office that’ll leave you
wondering why anybody does it differently; it just feels natural.  Taking a cue
from the natural world, CDT’s office products like their ‘universal scissors’
are meant to be used by both left and right-handed people with an eye toward the
golden ratio.

CDT’s pattern philosophy is similarly long-lived; drawing on Edo-era braid
weaves for inspiration, which is then smartly applied to their line of exquisite
masking tapes. The payoff of this thoughtful design means ideal tools for
everything in your office.
