︎ Rooftop Project _ ZuidPlein WdKA Spatial Design Project A NEW VISION ON LOST SPACES GEOGRAPHICAL CONTEXT ZUIDPLEIN ROOFTOP Prev / Next (1 of 1) The site of our project is located on the roof of the big gallery of the Zuidplein. This place is extremely dynamic because it has its own subway stop and the bus station is located next to it. The rooftop of the Zuidplein, in spite of a surface of 45000 square meters, is currently not used. Our investment in this place is a first step towards its occupation. The rooftop is divided into several levels of different heights and sizes, and can therefore offer a variety of leisure activities and facilities. PROJECT CONCEPT SHARPEN YOUR SIGHT WITH GEOMETRY HOW CAN YOU GET A NEW PERCEPTION OF A SITE? HOW YOU GIVE A NEW VISION ON A SOCIAL AND A ARCHITECTURAL SPACE? Privacy also comes into play when we talk about vision. The degree of intimacy in this exhibition will therefore be gradual and the more we progress in this project, the more important it will become. The work therefore offers a perspective between the self and the common, the public and the private and how to be fully part of this experience. The feeling in this space must be able to correspond to being able to feel in agreement with oneself, while being intervening in a community that the visitors form. NEW ASPECT OF GEOMETRY Prev / Next (1 of 1) Prev / Next (1 of 1) SHAPES FROM THE SITE TO CREATE PAVILLIONS The concept of this project is based on the principle of privatization of vision. The general angle of view of a human is 120° and it is on this angle that the structures are based. The project is also based on the principle of isovist, the geometric shape containing all the points visible from a given point of view in a given environment. My intervention on this site is based on the game of anamorphosis. the site itself is not only the simple canvas, the support of the exhibition; it becomes one of the main actors. the placement of these elements along the route offers us a game of perspective, of heights and a new point of view on space through art. The mix between art and architecture forms a symbiosis on a site with a great technical value, where the installation comes to give it potential for future creations. PAVILLIONS PEOPLE WANT TO SEE AND TO BE SEEN Prev / Next (1 of 1) In order to determine the shapes of the pavilions used on the rooftop, it was decided to start with cubic shapes, 4 meters by 4. In order to obtain interesting visual games between these and the different levels of the place, the starting point was to form a grid on which were based interesting visual points based on the pre-determined path. From this grid, points determining the locations of the pavilions could be defined. From these locations, a central point of view was placed on one of the structures and from this point, all the possibilities of vision were traced. When the visual crossed another structure, this one was adapted and divided on the basis of the vision set. The height of the horns is determined by the vision itself. The basic height of the structures is 1m80, but the more you go up, the more the structures get bigger due to the angle. Two heights can be determined depending on the direction of the view. PAVILLIONS PEOPLE WANT TO SEE AND TO BE SEEN All the pavillions are based on the geometrical shapes that you can find all along the rooftop. Each pavillions have a specific role during all the path. The entrance is designed as the public can understand the concept behind the forms; the vision is getting blocked and you arrived in the front of the exhibition and see the differents structures. The largest one is dedicated to create a meeting point, where informations and talks about the life and history of the quarter. some photography is put onto the different pannels and give the public a golbal vision of the site and the living. There is some individuals structures where people can get into and listen interviews, watch pictures and isolate themselves to appreciate and understand better the social act behind the exhbition. The highest pavillions are made for the night part of the exhibition, where people can participate to a mapping show, screening of documentary, and sonor installations. There are placed next to the path, on each level of the rooftop. The others one are made to interact beetween them and made a play of vision beetween the different parts and levels of the rooftop.
