The Ministry of Labour and Social Security, in collaboration with the World
Bank, officially launched the Social Protection for Increased Resilience and
Opportunity (SPIRO) Project today! This transformative initiative is designed to
strengthen Jamaica’s social protection systems, ensuring no one is left behind.
With SPIRO, we are building resilience, creating opportunities, and empowering
Jamaicans to thrive. 💡 Key Features of SPIRO: 🔹 A contributory unemployment
insurance scheme to provide financial stability during tough times. 🔹 An
enhanced emergency response system for rapid relief during national crises like
hurricanes or earthquakes. 🔹 Improved access to job opportunities for over
20,000 Jamaicans through an upgraded Labour Market Information System. 🔹
Streamlined services with the Social Protection Information System (SPIS),
reducing service response times from 90 days to just 30! This project is about
more than survival—it’s about thriving, building opportunities, and ensuring a
stronger, more resilient Jamaica for all. Together with the World Bank, we are
