Lospec: Civil War



We want you to create a battle sprite that we can add to an rpg game mockup. One
one side is good, and on the other is evil. Pick a side and draw a character
sprite to match. Your character should be facing right if good, and facing left
if evil. At the end we will combine them into a crazy battle mockup!

LOSPEC PIXEL SCHOOL IS HAPPENING! BEGINNER LEVEL CLASS STARTING SOON!



I recently did a poll to gauge interest in a pixel art learning program, and
have decided to do a test run with a beginner level course!


This course will be aimed at people with zero pixel art expirience, so most
people on Lospec probably wouldn't benefit, but perhaps you know someone who
does! In the future I hope to add an intermediate level course, and if all goes
well, I have a few extremely talented guest teachers lined up for some advanced
classes!

PIXEL ART COMMUNITIES



Here's a list of all the biggest and best pixel art communities on the net. They
all have their strengths and weaknesses, and most people don't stick to just
one, so browse around and check them out!


 * LOSPEC DISCORD
   
   The Lospec Discord is a fun and friendly chatroom for people of all skill
   levels and interests. We have boards for Pixel Art, Voxel Art, Palettes,
   Textmode, Low-poly, Chiptune, and other low-spec art, plus there's always an
   active collaboration, and channels for getting art feedback. It's the best
   way to connect with other Lospec members and stay up to date with what's
   going on here, so drop in and say hello!


 * TWITTER
   
   Twitter is great because you can gain followers and have your work seen by
   the most people, by breaking out of the pixel art sphere. Lots of game
   developers and other low-spec artists to connect with. Make sure to use
   #pixelart on your posts! Not great for getting critiques due to the format.


 * /R/PIXELART
   
   Reddit's /r/pixelart forum has over 100,000 members and has the potential to
   reach more, but most post stay within the smaller ecosystem which is filled
   pixel artists new and experienced. Also one of the only places where it's
   really acceptable to share any pixel art you find elsewhere on the net. Great
   for beginners.


 * PIXELJOINT
   
   PixelJoint is a standalone gallery which has been around since 2004. A little
   outdated, but still has the biggest (and highest quality) collection of pixel
   art on the net. Pieces must meet the gallery's quality standards and be
   manually approved. Also hosts a weekly pixel art challenge and has forums
   where users can get feedback on their work in progress art and discuss other
   related topics. Now has it's own discord server.


 * PIXELATION
   
   An old but still active standalone forum which hosts lots of studies and
   deeper discussions of pixel art. Has a place for feedback and non-pixel-art
   as well.


 * PIXEL ART OFFICIAL
   
   A discord server that started as a chatroom for /r/PixelArt but has taken on
   a life of it's own, it's pretty active place to get live feedback / share
   art.


 * PIXONOMICON
   
   A standalone pixel art discord server, which includes other mediums and game
   development.


 * DEVIANTART
   
   A massive art site that hosts nearly all forms of visual art, including pixel
   art. Has no posting requirements or moderation so it's not the greatest place
   to browse, but you can create your own gallery and amass followers.


 * PIXIV
   
   A Japanese website that hosts user galleries for many visual art forms. A bit
   tricky to navigate for english speakers, but lots of talented Japanese pixel
   artists post there (where it's known as dotpict).

WHAT IS LOSPEC?


Lospec is an independent website, created in in 2017 by a bird named skeddles.
It was founded on the idea that the internet needs a more modern place to share
pixel art, and other similar but less represented art forms. When we launched we
only had the palette list and the Lospec Pixel Editor (both of which were far
simpler than they are now), but over the years we've added many more tools and
features. In January of 2020 we launched our first kickstarter, to help fund the
Lospec Gallery. After 2 years the gallery was finally released in January of
2023, and continues to be updated with new features and improvements. Our
mission to continue to improve the site and add new tools and features that help
people create and share art. We are funded mainly by donations, so if you
believe in what we're doing please considering becoming a member of our patreon
