PROPERTY QUESTIONS

See more Property questions

Q: FRANCE BUILDING LAWS: DO I NEED PLANNING PERMISSION FOR A TREEHOUSE?

A: For this question we are taking a treehouse to mean a fairly rudimentary
structure built by yourself (or at least not professional construction workers!)
that people can rest and play in, as opposed to a substantial piece of
accommodation.

Q: RULES ON USING WELL WATER DURING A DROUGHT IN FRANCE

A: No, well water is subject to the same restrictions on usage as tap water as
it comes from the water table, so using it has the same effect on reserves.

Q: WHAT IS A ‘PROTECTED TENANT’ IN FRANCE AND HOW DO YOU BECOME ONE?

A: In France it is correct that elderly people can be given the status of
‘protected tenants’ (locataire protégé), depending on their housing situation
and income level.

Q: IS THERE ANY AID TO HELP REPLACE OLD DRAUGHTY WINDOWS AT FRENCH HOME?

A: It is correct that as part of the government’s MaPrimeRénov’ scheme – which
helps homeowners conduct eco-friendly renovations to their house – it is
possible to receive aid to help install more energy-efficient windows. And, you
could receive more than €80 per window.

Q: FRANCE COVID: HOW LONG AFTER MY FOURTH VACCINE DOSE CAN I HAVE FIFTH?

A: A new Covid booster vaccine campaign was launched in France on October 3, as
the eighth wave of the virus continues.

Q: HOW DO I GET AN OMICRON-TARGETED COVID BOOSTER JAB IN FRANCE?

A: Our reader is referring to our article: France approves three vaccines
adapted to Covid Omicron subvariants.

Q: IS COVID HEALTH PASS STILL NEEDED FOR HOSPITAL APPOINTMENT IN FRANCE?

A: When France’s vaccine pass system came to an end on March 14, health pass
requirements remained in place for non-emergency visits to health and care
settings.

Q: CAN I GET COVID BOOSTER JAB WHILE NOT YET IN FRENCH HEALTHCARE SYSTEM?

A: Everyone who is a resident in France has the right to get Covid vaccinations
for free, whether they are in the healthcare system or not.

BREXIT QUESTIONS

See more Brexit questions

Q: POST BREXIT DO I NEED A VISA WHEN LEAVING FRANCE FOR AN EU HOLIDAY?

A: Europe’s upcoming Entry/Exit System is aimed at being a way of tracking the
movements of non-EU visitors in and out of the Schengen area but it is important
to note that it will not be equivalent to a visa.

Q: SHOULD I SWAP FIVE-YEAR BREXIT RESIDENCY CARD FOR 10-YEAR CARD?

A: For British citizens living in France, Brexit and the subsequent Withdrawal
Agreement made it necessary to obtain residency permits to continue living
here.

Q: CAN WE STILL RETIRE TO FRANCE? ARE CERTAIN INCOME LEVELS NOW REQUIRED?

A: We presume from the use of ‘still’ in your question that you are British and
are wondering if Brexit has changed the rules.

Q: LOST BREXIT RESIDENCY CARD IN FRANCE: HOW DO I REPLACE IT?

A: If you have lost your Withdrawal Agreement carte de séjour in France, you can
obtain a new one – called a duplicata – with the same validity dates. This is
different from applying for a new card when one is set to expire.
