the party announced would-be successors would need to win the support of 100 MPs
to get on the ballot. This means that realistically a maximum of three can make
it into a vote, and that there could be a simple coronation of a winner if they
get far more than that. The candidates could include former PM Boris Johnson,
who has been backed by some MPs to run to return to power. But he remains on
holiday in the Caribbean and faces a race-against-time. In a boost to his
chances, the final two candidates will go head-to-head in a final online vote by
party members next Friday. Mr Johnson remains popular with the Tory grassroots
and could win such a vote. But it remains unclear whether he can reach the 100
threshold, or whether a figure from the Tory right could stand and risk
splitting the vote.

The images show thousands of Hungarian Jews after arriving at Auschwitz-Birkenau
death camp in 1944. They also show the enormous piles of possessions (main) that
Jews both selected for work and for death had to surrender on arrival. Taken by
the Nazis themselves, the images are a meticulous record of the murder of
1.1million Jews at the site, which was in occupied Poland. The Jewish victims
who died in the camp were among six million murdered by Adolf Hitler's forces.
The exhibition, Seeing Auschwitz, opened today at 81 Old Brompton Road in
south-west London and will run until the end of December. The images were taken
over a three-month period in the summer of 1944, when an estimated 400,000
people, nearly all of them Jews, were murdered in Auschwitz's gas chambers. The
photos, of which there are 193 in total, were found in an album by Holocaust
survivor Lilly Jacob-Zelmanovic Meier in the aftermath of the Second World War.
The collection, which is known as the Auschwitz Album, is held by Israel's Yad
Vashem museum. The photographers are likely to have been SS men Ernst Hofmann
and Bernhard Walter. When taking the images, they often stood on the roof of a
train to get a better composition.

Residents on Divinity Road in Oxford took matters in their own hands after the
physical poles designed to reduce traffic on their neighbourhood street were
removed. Oxfordshire County Council (OCC) has set up a number of low traffic
neighbourhoods (LTNs) in the area to prevent vehicles taking shortcuts through a
residential area with the aim of creating quieter and safer streets. This
included installing bollards, but the scheme has proved controversial and has
been criticised for displacing traffic onto busier roads. Many - including those
on Divinity Road - have been vandalised, with a number of bollards across the
county cut down and even set on fire. Now video footage has shown locals
standing in their place in the middle of the road to try and prevent cars racing
through.

This is the moment a brave paramedic flew up a hill in winds of over 30 miles
per hour and heavy rain using a jet pack.It marks a new milestone for the Great
North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS), as this was the first time one of their
team has been able to fly up a slope with the Jet Suit. The flight was part of a
trial of the Jet Suit technology, with the goal of medics using it to reach
patients in remote locations, like in the Lake District. Developed by inventor
Richard Browning from Gravity Industries, the flying suit can reach impressive
speeds of up to 85 miles per hour at more than 12,000 feet into the air. It
relies on five mini jet engines, two built into units attached to each hand and
one built into a backpack, which gives it a flight time of up to ten minutes.
After about ten days of training, GNAAS paramedic Jamie Walsh made the flight up
a short, steep ascent in adverse weather conditions, and was joined by Mr
Browning. Mr Browning said: 'It is fantastic to see the progress we have
delivered since the proof of concept back in 2020. It was a true privilege to
fly, literally, alongside Jamie, noting how far we have come in applying Jet
Suit technology in the world of medical response.'

I WALLA BE FREE! BIZARRE MOMENT CHEEKY WALLABY IS SPOTTED HOPPING DOWN A
RESIDENTIAL STREET NEAR NEWCASTLE
Schoolgirl Cia Christie, 13, filmed the cheeky wallaby (pictured) - an Aussie
marsupial in the same family as kangaroos - bouncing outside her home near
Newcastle yesterday morning.. The wallaby was filmed hopping behind a fence in
Valley Dene, Chopwell, Gateshead in Tyne and Wear, after it was thought to have
been on the loose for several days. Cia said: 'I was in car after getting ready
for school and just looked out of the window and saw this wallaby. I couldn't
believe my eyes.'

Located halfway between Hawaii and California, the Great Pacific Garbage Patch
is estimated to contain a whopping 2.41 million tonnes of plastic - and is
continuing to grow. Scientists are desperately trying to clear the build-up, and
this month have been able to extract 10 tonnes (10,086kg) of plastic, bringing
the total of plastic removed to 145 tonnes (145,518 kg). The Ocean Cleanup, a
project aimed at cleaning up the GPGP, aims to reduce floating plastic by 90 per
cent by 2040.
