Challenges in transmission and distribution for today and future are on the
minds of many around the world. Power providers face economic, environmental and
security challenges on a large scale, with an aged electric power grid and an
expected demand for electricity to increase by more than 50% over the next
several decades. Electricity Today T&D Magazine Live Online Forums deliver live
content, networking opportunities and engaging virtual experiences to our
community of T&D electrical engineering and maintenance professionals.

45 minutes presentation includes 10 minutes of Q&A.

9:00am - 9:45am

Integrated Engineering Software

Simulation of communication cables running below High Voltage Power Transmission
Lines
Distance from a power transmitting tower to the next one is usually about 200 to
300 meters, while its height is 20-25 meters. The diameter of the power
transmission lines used in the high voltage transmission is about one inch,
which is very thin when comparing to the size of the transmitting tower and the
distance between the towers. In places where tough terrine conditions exist, the
communication lines are laid about two meters below the power lines for
maximizing the use of the infrastructure built for the power transmission. It is
important to know the electric fields due to the high voltage transmission along
the communication cables for achieving reliable communication. This kind of big
open region problems can only be solved using Boundary Element Method (BEM). In
this webinar we will demonstrate how this open region problem is handled by our
3D Electric Field solver COULOMB which is based on BEM formulation.

9:45am - 10:30am

Hexion Inc.

"Guarding the Grid:" Hexion's ArmorBuilt Wildfire Shield is a Proven Solution
for Utility Pole Protection
This presentation will discuss a new technology designed to protect utility
poles from wildfire. ArmorBuilt wildfire shield promotes a long-lasting and
sustainably sourced power infrastructure. By protecting critical infrastructure,
ArmorBuilt helps reduce the risk of fire spreading - and the potential loss of
life.
This technology has been applied to over 100,000 poles in western North America.
It is a cost-effective, durable safeguard that is designed with the line
worker's safety in mind. It is safe and easy to apply, climb, cut and repair. It
does not require special handling or installation practices - saving time in the
field.

DR. K.M.PRASAD

Senior R&D Engineer

INTEGRATED ENGINEERING SOFTWARE

Dr. Prasad has been involved in developing INTEGRATED Engineering Software
programs for over 35 years. He obtained his Ph.D. in 1983 and is specialized in
the simulation of the real-world electromagnetic field models. Dr. Prasad has
considerable expertise in the minimization of the complexity of the real-world
models without losing its electromagnetic functionality, with more than three
decades of experience in the simulation of electric, magnetic, thermal, and high
frequency electromagnetic problems.

SCOTT MCINTYRE

Director of Fire Safety

HEXION INC.

Scott McIntyre is the Director of Fire Safety for Hexion Inc. and is co-inventor
of ArmorBuilt. He has been with Hexion for 30 years and has over 45 years of
experience in the forest products industry. He is tenured in running plywood
plants and sawmills and has held numerous technical roles in the industry.
