Its recommended by mixed media artists for the extremely dark pigment. One colored pencil (Prismas) teacher uses the black pencil dry to darken black areas to the max and also uses the white pencil dry. The pencils have a graphite base. They blend well with water. The colors are bright and blend well with each other to make lovely mixes. Looking forward to supplementing my more muted Graphitint pencils to add some stronger color pops.
