Repost @markfancherfx - Here’s a challenging water droplet shot I worked on
recently at @alreadybeenchewed - Stitched together multiple different fluid
solving techniques across 9 separate solvers leaning on the strengths of each
for various phases of the droplet. Why so many solvers? Trying to do it
all-in-one would have taken too long to iterate and would have been super hard
to manage. Breaking a sim down into separate phases let me focus on one part of
the sim without worrying about how it would affect the other parts of the sim.
Here’s a breakdown: 4 pop fluid solvers (One for the droplet traveling along the
surface, one for the trail it creates, one for the droplet exiting the surface
and entering free-fall, and one for some peripheral droplets that aren’t visible
in the vertical format) 1 Flip solver for the crown splash 1 ripple solver for
the cymatic effect around the outside of the crown splash 3 custom solvers for
assisting the other sims, computing wet maps / tracking whether droplets ever
become active or not I find myself working more and more with this stitching
solvers technique. It’s great!
