ABSTRACT

Studies on child poverty have multiplied in recent decades, becoming a key field
of study for the social sciences and political agenda. Child poverty is
inexorably associated with the family context, and it has an objective-material
component and a subjective component (satisfaction and happiness). Both
dimensions, on limited occasions, are studied together. The purpose of this
chapter is to critically review the existing literature on child poverty,
integrating, from a holistic and global perspective, the materialistic dimension
with the subjective (in terms of satisfaction) of child poverty in the different
regional and geographic contexts. The ultimate goal of this chapter would be to
identify the possible causes of child poverty, taking into account regional
diversity as a useful analytical context to design effective policies against
child poverty.
