Welcome

South Liverpool Photographic Society extends a warm welcome to anyone who enjoys
photography – why not join us and become part of a friendly group that shares
this interesting and varied hobby.

Meetings are held every Thursday evening from September to June at CADWA Hall in
Childwall along with some meetings online via ZOOM.

These include presentations from professional or successful amateur
photographers and members evenings on a wide variety of themes.

We also have organised meet-ups when we go out with our cameras and take
photographs of a particular place or subject. 

We hold monthly and annual competitions where we invite experienced judges to
take a look at our images and give us feedback on them. Take a look at the Club

SLPS Winter Exhibition

SLPS Winter Exhibition will be held in Sefton Park's beautiful Palm House from
Wednesday 5 February until Monday 10  February 2025.

All members of the club have been invited to submit images on the subject 'In My
Liverpool Home' and selected prints will be on display for the public to view. 

Full details of the exhibition opening times will be posted here in January.

History of the Club

History of the club

It all started back in 1952, times were hard after the World War II and money
was tight so a small group of photographers got together with the idea of
creating a club that was both friendly and informative. 
Such was the success of their initial aims that the club's membership went from
strength to strength. 
Not only the membership grew, but the club’s reputation as one of the finest in
the North West and possibly nationally for its print and slide work.

In 1991 we incorporated the Liverpool Amateur Photographic Association (LAPA)
into the Society. 
LAPA was founded in 1853 and are part of photographic history.

Many of our members enter competitions both nationally and internationally with
success. 
The high standard of photographic work is reflected by the calibre of its
members, and we are both proud and privileged to have members of the Royal
Photographic Society (RPS) and Photographic Alliance of Great Britain (PAGB)
distinctions.

SLPS is an exceedingly friendly club with great camaraderie and a willingness to
help others in this wonderful hobby.

The highlight of the club's year is the Annual Competition (prints and projected
digital images) and Exhibition of Photography during the summer, 
usually held at a city centre venue and a winter exhibition in the Palm House,
Sefton Park.

SOUTH LIVERPOOL PHOTOGRAPHIC SOCIETY (incorporating L.A.P.A.)

CONSTITUTION & RULES (April 2021)

CONSTITUTION

1. NAME OF THE SOCIETY:

The Society shall be called “The South Liverpool Photographic Society
Incorporating L.A.P.A.”.

2. OBJECTIVE:

The object of the Society shall be the advancement of the art and science of
photography. b. To consider the rules of the governing bodies, the Photographic
Alliance of Great Britain and the L. & C.P.U., which are likely to affect the
Society.

3. MEMBERSHIP:

Membership shall be by annual subscription, which is dependent on the type of
membership held. Subscriptions will be reviewed annually.

Types of membership will be:-

3.1 Ordinary membership:

3.2 Junior membership: A member who is less than eighteen years old at the
beginning of September is entitled to be a junior member at a concessionary
rate. (Members & visitors under the age of 18 must be accompanied at all
meetings and other events by a parent or guardian, or an adult who has the
specific agreement of the parent/guardian, who will be responsible for their
safety at all times).

3.3 Student membership: A member who is unwaged and who is enrolled on a
training course for a significant part of the time is entitled to be a student
member at a concessionary rate.

3.4 Honorary membership: This may be granted to any person for their
contribution to club activities by a vote of the majority of the elected
Committee Members. The honorary member will be entitled, with the exception of a
constitutional vote, to full membership rights, and all membership fee payments
will be waived until that membership is withdrawn by a majority vote of the
elected Committee Members.

4. MANAGEMENT:

4.1 The membership of the Society will each year at the Annual General Meeting
elect a Management Committee who will be responsible for the running of the
Society’s affairs.

4.2 The membership through the Annual General Meeting or at any Extraordinary
Meeting shall make, alter or evoke rules of the Society consistent with the
objectives of the Society’s constitution.

5. ALTERATION TO THE CONSTITUTION OR RULES:

5.1 No alteration shall be made to the constitution or rules of the Society
without the consent of the membership at an Extraordinary Meeting or Annual
General Meeting.

6. MEETING (QUORUM)

6.1 For any official meeting of the Society to take place, a minimum number of
members must be present. The number of members to form a quorum for Annual
General Meetings, the Management Committee and any sub-committee will be defined
in the Society’s rules.

RULES

1. MEMBERSHIP

1.1 Any person interested in photography shall be eligible for application for
membership of the Society.

1.2 Members will be informed of the current subscription rate and any amendments
thereto, if and when they become necessary.

1.3 Any member may be asked to resign or be expelled from the Society at the
decision of the Committee.

2. SUBSCRIPTIONS

2.1 All subscriptions shall fall due on the 1st of September each year and shall
be payable to the Treasurer.

2.2 The Society’s main season shall run from the 1st September to the 30th June
(With a Summer Season running in July & August for which an entrance fee will be
payable.

2.3 Members joining the Society between 1st September and 31st December shall
pay the full membership subscriptions. Members joining after 31st December shall
have subscriptions calculated on a quarterly basis.

2.4 If the subscriptions of any members is in arrears after two months, the
Committee may authorise the Treasurer to intimate to the member that unless the
said amount due is paid within one month from the date of such noti

SLPS membership details

South Liverpool Photographic Society Membership details

Members pay an annual fee of £75 which includes:

Over 40 meetings per year with presentations from professional and amateur
photographers showing different photography techniques and genres plus some
inspirational photographs. Also practical sessions and informal critique
evenings.

The chance to enter prints and digital photographs into all SLPS competitions –
6 monthly competitions and 5 different annual competitions, as well the
opportunity to represent the club in regional and national competitions.

Annual exhibitions of members’ photographs held during the summer and winter
where the public are invited to see images take nby members throughout the year.

Summer season of social events including outings to places and events around
Merseyside and beyond.

Being part of a friendly group of people who exchange ideas and advice to help
everyone improve their photography skills and knowledge.
