WELCOME
TO ASTMOOR PRIMARY SCHOOL

WELCOME TO ASTMOOR PRIMARY SCHOOL

Astmoor Primary School is a community school located in the heart of
Castlefields in Runcorn Town. The school shares it's site with an adult learning
centre and a private day nursery. We are also very close to the local shops,
health centre and community centre.

We currently have just under 130 pupils which allows us to operate very much
like a large family. We are proud of the nurturing and inclusive ethos that we
have cultivated in our school and positive relationships are at the heart of
everything we do. You will always receive a warm welcome when you visit our
school.

We offer the children at our school a broad, balanced and fun-filled curriculum.
Our school building is modern, bright and inviting and our facilities are
excellent. We are constantly striving for improvement and searching for new
ideas. We welcome the support offered to us by parents and the wider community.

Louisa Aldridge - Headteacher

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Astmoor is the building blocks for a better start in life. The vision of the
school community shone through with a deep-rooted desire to build trust,
strength, resilience and a future for their pupils. A thriving primary school
that is outward facing and there for the children and their families. The
headteacher, governors and staff are rightly proud of their inclusive
environment. The school showcases its artistic talents to provide a visually
stimulating and vibrant environment that acknowledges and celebrates the
uniqueness of its pupils"

OUR LATEST NEWS

RETURN TO SCHOOL SEPTEMBER 2020

Well last week marked the return to school for many children after the COVID-19
lockdown in March. We anticipated lots of tired and potentially very anxious
children but are pleased to report that the first two days went very smoothly.
On the whole, the measures that we have put into place to keep the children as
safe as possible, appear to be working very well - particularly the start and
end of day routines. Thank you to all our parents and carers for helping us to
avoid congestion at these points in the day by moving off site quickly.

COVID - 19 SAFETY MEASURES

Following detailed guidance from the Government about the safe re-opening of
schools, we have put into place a number of new measures that we feel will help
everyone to feel safe:

 * One way system around the school building to help avoid congestion
 * 15 minute entry time at the start of the school day
 * two end times: 3pm and 3.15pm
 * Classes organised into bubbles that do not mix with other bubbles
 * Different playtime areas for each class
 * New lunchtime arrangements to support each bubble
 * Increased hand-washing routines and cleaning procedures throughout school

Of course, we will continue to monitor our procedures to ensure they are
effective and make changes accordingly.

SPORTS DAY 2019

Following the disappointing weather recently, we have planned a new date for our
Annual Sports Day on Wednesday 3rd July at 9.30am. All children from Year 1 to
Year 6 will be involved in the event and parents, family and friends are welcome
to come along and support.

INTRODUCTION OF DAILY BREAKFAST CLUB CHARGE

PLEASE NOTE: From Monday 3rd June 2019, we will be introducing a nominal charge
of £1 per day, per child for all children attending Breakfast Club. This money
will be used to help us to meet the staffing costs and ensure that we can
continue to offer this much-valued service to families. The fee can be paid
daily, weekly of half-termly to the school office.

THE SANDWELL APPROACH

We are very excited to announce that our school is about to embark on 'The
Sandwell Well-being' project. This is a whole school community project that will
help us to identify our current strengths in supporting the well-being
of everyone involved with our school. The process will also help us to clearly
identify areas that we can improve upon. Parents and Carers will receive further
information in the form of a leaflet and we are hoping that some parents/carers
will agree to be part of a focus group. The whole project will be led by
Halton's Educational Psychology team and we feel privileged to be the first
school in Halton to engage with this project.

SOUTH AFRICA TRIP

Miss Doran and Mr Guy are now preparing for their trip to visit our partner
school, Mashemong Primary, in South Africa. This will be the third visit by
members of our team and they are very much looking forward to it. As usual, we
will be sending gifts to our friends and we are currently busy organising these.

While they are in South Africa, Miss Doran and Mr Guy will spend time each day
in Mashemong School, meeting children and staff and observing life in a
different school. There are over 1,200 children in Mashemong school making it a
complete contrast to our small primary school. However, based on past
experiences, we know they will be warmly welcomed and will experience a rich
menu of cultural activities during their time there.

RED NOSE DAY 2019

Last Friday, the children all supported the Comic Relief charity by coming to
school wearing red and decorating themselves in red. As always, we were very
impressed with the effort that everybody had made. Thank you all for your
generous donations which totalled over £84 and for buying Red Noses throughout
the week, the sale of which raised over £192.

Well done too to our School Council members who helped to organise the event by
designing posters to put up around school and helped to sell the red noses
throughout the week. A great effort!
