TRANSBAY TUBE DOWN TO ONE TRACK



SAN FRANCISCO, Dec. 19 (UPI) -- An electrical issue Sunday caused major delays
on San Francisco's Transbay Tube commuter rail service, officials said.

A Bay Area Rapid Transit official said smoke was reported shortly before 2 p.m.
and it was traced to an electrical problem that interrupted service from an
electrical substation, the San Francisco Chronicle reported.

"This has forced us to shut down service on one of the two tracks," BART
spokesman Jim Allison said.

Crews were working to fix the problem but it wasn't known how long it would be
before normal operations would resume in the Transbay Tube, which connects San
Francisco and East Bay.

The Chronicle said one line was operating between Pittsburgh-Bay Point and San
Francisco International Airport, and BART was sending trains through the tube
from the Coliseum-Oakland Airport Station to accommodate Oakland Raiders fans
periodically.
