   biggest challenges in fact-checking is retrieving relevant documents,
   especially when claims need complex inferences. The solution? A
   𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗙𝗮𝗰𝘁-𝗖𝗵𝗲𝗰𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗥𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗸𝗲𝗿 (𝗖𝗙𝗥)
   that uses GPT-4, human annotations, and advanced learning techniques to
   fine-tune retrieval. 🔑 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗯𝗹𝗲𝗺: Fact-checking complex claims often
   surfaces irrelevant documents that lack the nuanced information needed to
   verify claims accurately. 🧠 𝗦𝗼𝗹𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻: CFR combines contrastive
   learning with human and machine supervision, making it possible to retrieve
   documents that are indirectly related but crucial for verification. 📊
   𝗥𝗲𝘀𝘂𝗹𝘁𝘀: Tested on datasets like AVeriTeC and FEVER, CFR improves
   document retrieval and fact-checking accuracy by 6%! Plus, the model works

   fellow for his outstanding accomplishments in the field of vector databases

   presentations on Friday at DBDBD 2024 (Dutch-Belgian DataBase Day):
   https://lnkd.in/erZkdQpM Thanks also to Peter Boncz for organizing this great
   event. Some of my takeaways from these two days: - Database theory is a very
   lively field of research, but it can also be overwhelming because of the huge
   number of DBMS products and DBMS types all claiming to be the best of breed.
   - SQL is still by far the most popular database language, and all DBMS
   products (even no-SQL databases) offer a SQL layer - only problem is that
   most do not stick to the ANSI standard and every product has its own
   extensions, making it very difficult to migrate from DBMS to another. -
   Vector databases or column-oriented databases, where the data is stored as a
   set of arrays (1 for every column) instead of a set of records, are very much
   alive and great for analytical queries. They were invented at CWI and first
   implemented in MonetDB Solutions, but also #Snowflake and #DuckDB use these
   concepts with great success in their storage engines. - Thanks Bart Samwel of
   #Databricks for a very interesting presentation on Delta Lake and an elegant
   method to make data pipelines incremental. Very often, loading data from
   source systems to a datawarehouse and/or datamart layer involves full table
   refreshes, this could be made much more efficient by keeping track of changes
   and refreshing the tables incrementally. - In fact this touches upon the big
   research topic of IVM (Incremental View Maintenance), which is close to my
   heart and which studies techniques to incrementally update a materialized
   view when the underlying base tables change. Although a lot of results have
   been published, most DBMS products still have very limited support for
   materialized views (Snowflake has just introduced Dynamic Tables, but they
   also have quite some limitations). - Finally, thanks Alexey Milovidov for an
   very entertaining demonstration of #Clickhouse, a GPU database with
   impressive performance metrics on very large datasets. I missed my
   opportunity to bring up a problem from the industry that deserve to be
   researched, but I will mention one here: Handling database schema changes in
   deployment pipelines. If the logical data model of a production database
   changes, it is often not so easy to deploy these changes to production
   (depending on the type of changes to the data model). I think there should be
   better support for DDL changes in development tools.

   FINETUNEBENCH, a new benchmark to evaluate knowledge infusion in LLMs.
   FineTuneBench tests five frontier LLMs (GPT-4o, GPT-4o-mini, GPT-3.5-turbo,
   Gemini 1.5 Pro, Gemini 1.5 Flash) using commercial fine-tuning APIs from
   OpenAI and Google Vertex AI. It focuses on two key aspects: ➡️ Ingesting
   Novel Information: Think recent news events or new employee profiles.
   ➡️ Updating Existing Knowledge: Like medical guideline changes or software
   updates. Key insights 💡: ➡️ Substantial Shortcomings: All models struggle
   with new information, achieving an average generalization accuracy of just
   37%. Updating existing knowledge proves even harder (19% average accuracy).
   ➡️ GPT-4o-mini Leads: It performed best at both ingesting new information and
   updating knowledge, followed by GPT-3.5 Turbo and GPT-4o. ➡️ Gemini
   Struggles: Both Gemini models underperformed, showing limited ability to
   learn or update knowledge. ➡️ Overfitting is Common: Models tend to overfit

   🚀 DE Interview📢Data Imputation⌛1-Min-Read 🧔‍♂️Interviewer: Can you explain
   how you improved data accuracy in your project, leading to significant
   business impact? 👶Candidate: In our project, we were facing issues with
   inaccurate business results due to missing values in our raw data layer. We
   knew which records were missing values and had a clear understanding of what
   those values should be. To tackle this, I developed a data imputation
   framework and created a new layer as a parallel pipeline. Here’s how I
   approached it: Data Imputation: I designed a framework that identified
   missing values and filled them with the appropriate data. This involved
   analyzing patterns and ensuring the imputed values were accurate and
   relevant. Parallel Pipeline: I set up a parallel pipeline to compare the
   imputed data with the actual data. This allowed us to validate the
   effectiveness of the imputation process. Comparison and Validation: By
   running the imputed data through the pipeline, we could see that the imputed
   data was much closer to the actual results compared to the raw data.
   Production Implementation: Due to the significant improvement in data
   accuracy, the team decided to move my imputation code into production. This
   ensured that business results were more accurate and reliable. By
   implementing this data imputation framework, we achieved several impacts:
   Increased Accuracy: The imputed data significantly reduced discrepancies,
   resulting in more accurate business insights. Improved Efficiency: Automating
   the imputation process saved time and resources, allowing the team to focus
   on more critical tasks. Enhanced Reliability: The production implementation
   of the imputation framework ensured consistent and reliable data quality.
   Real-time Validation: The parallel pipeline provided real-time insights,
   helping us quickly identify and address any data issues. Summary: 1️⃣
   Problem: Inaccurate business results due to missing values in raw data. 2️⃣
   Solution: Developed a data imputation framework and parallel validation
   pipeline. 3️⃣ Impact: Increased accuracy, improved efficiency, and enhanced

   attention: 🔍 Focus on Application: The Act smartly zeroes in on how AI is
   applied rather than getting tangled up in the underlying algorithms. This
   pragmatic approach mirrors the rigor we see in other sectors, like the Basel
   norms in banking. 🔄 Self-Regulation: Europe is leaning towards a
   self-regulating framework. While this isn’t new in the public domain, it’s
   interesting to see how this will play out in high-risk AI applications. It’s

   Can we trust LLM benchmarks(Like. MMLU, C-Eval)? A new study unveils the risk
   of data leakage and offers a solution to detect it! 🕵️‍♀️ The widespread use
   of multiple-choice benchmarks for LLMs has a hidden risk: data leakage. If a
   model has seen benchmark data during pre-training, it can simply memorize
   answers, leading to inflated performance scores. Here's the gist: ➡️ By
   shuffling the content of multiple-choice options, create derived datasets. ➡️
   Analyze the log-probability distribution of an LLM's responses to these
   shuffled datasets. ➡️ A maximum log-probability accompanied by an outlier
   strongly indicates data leakage. Key findings: ⚠️ Leakage is a serious
   concern: The study evaluated 31 popular open-source LLMs, including LLaMA,
   Qwen, and Yi, on benchmarks like MMLU, CMMLU, C-Eval, and CMB. 🏆 Qwen family
   of LLMs exhibited the highest degree of data leakage across multiple
   benchmarks. 📉 Data leakage significantly inflates performance metrics,

   talk about ARIMA, a powerful tool in the world of data science. ARIMA stands
   for AutoRegressive Integrated Moving Average. Sounds complex? Let’s break it
   down: AutoRegressive (AR): Look at past values to predict future ones. For
   instance, if sales increased steadily over the last few months, they might
   continue to do so. Integrated (I): Focus on changes over time. Instead of
   just looking at raw sales numbers, see how they’ve changed each month to
   identify trends. Moving Average (MA): Adjust predictions based on past
   mistakes. If your previous forecasts were always a bit too high, tweak them
   accordingly. Example: Imagine you’re predicting next month’s temperature: AR:
   If the temperature increased by 2°F each day for the last few days, it might
   continue this trend. I: Look at the daily changes (+2°F, +2°F) to understand
   the pattern. MA: If past predictions were usually 1°F too high, adjust by
   subtracting 1°F. So, ARIMA helps you make more accurate predictions by

   high level executive means 1 screen, as little filtering as possible. Some
   way to dive a little deeper, hence the 3 buttons to go a few periods back in
   time, it filters the page,. A filter on the filterpanel sets the year to
   2022, in terms of completed months jan. 2022 was the last. Somebody, let's
   call him Jasmin Jusufbegovic, once said "I do not understand why people don't
   do the calculations in Excel and create a Powerpoint instead of all the fuzz
   in PowerBI". It is not a Powerpoint but I tried to create a nice summary with
   some insights apart from the dashboard. I believe insights should not be on
   dashboards. Dashboards are meant to stay for a few years, the world and

   I think of ontology as the art of Naming the Things. It involves defining the
   Thing and coming up with the Name. - For things like pets and children,
   defining the Thing is easy. But coming up with the Name is hard. - In
   programming, defining the Thing tends to be a bit harder - but it still
   usually makes sense. Coming up with the Name is definitely much harder. - For
   things such as industries and skills, things that we deal with a lot at SEEK,
   defining the Thing becomes a science in itself. Coming up with the Name seems
   easy after that. Luckily we take it seriously, and there is an ontology team
   that does all the heavy lifting. Kate Mayhew explains:

   Critical Planning Step Learning(CPL) improves performance on GSM8K (+10.5%)

   ❓ Did you ever drag an object border in a container and see that nice little
   black caret that shows you the border of objects in a neighboring container?
     📏 That's really useful for aligning objects.   😲 It comes with some
   behavior that might surprise you though: it spawns a Tiled Container Type.  
   📝 I always call them a "Tiled Container Type" because both Horizontal and
   Vertical containers (as well as Tiled Container Types themselves) also have
   an attribute that can be set to Tiled for Floating. So that was a bit of a
   naming fail, and they should really be called just about anything else like
   parquet, mosaic, or Mondrian. (I don't even like the name "Floating" - I
   think it should be called "Fixed", but that's a double digression…)   Anyhow,
   check the image.   🚧 When you release the mouse, Tableau desktop duplicates
   the existing container, puts one object in each, and at the same time creates
   a Tiled Container Type as a parent. If you had more than 2 items, it will
   bunch them together in 2 containers that split at that line.   ⚒ If you don't
   want all that to happen, the only workaround I know is to get the desired
   width from the adjoining container/object and edit the dimensions of the
   object in question either via the dropdown or the Layout tab.   🎛 I'm a
   control guy. I still drive a manual transmission. In general, I don't like
   machines making assumptions about what I want. In this case, I would really
   like to be able to disable Tiled Container Types entirely.   ✍ What do you
