A requirement for coin trading platforms to establish a local office is
one of the proposals in a regulatory roadmap drafted by the government in
Moscow. Cryptocurrency Exchanges to Set Up Shop in Russian Federation
Some of the world’s largest digital assets exchanges, interviewed by
Kommersant, are not objecting to a potential requirement to establish
permanent presence in Russia in order to continue to offer services to
its citizens. The idea to oblige foreign-based platforms to do so is part
of the government’s roadmap to regulate the country’s crypto space. The
document, reportedly signed by Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko,
has been prepared as an alternative approach to Bank of Russia’s call for
a ban on trading, among other crypto operations. With its hardline
stance, the central bank has found itself in isolation as most other
government institutions, including the Finance Ministry, favor regulation
over prohibition. Among other requirements envisaged in the roadmap are
those related to anti-money laundering efforts such as the sharing of
transaction data with Rosfinmonitoring, Russia’s financial watchdog.
Crypto market players will also have to put in place mechanisms to verify
information about the ownership of the digital assets they are dealing
with. Binance, the largest crypto exchange by volume, told the business
daily it’s ready to open a branch or even register a legal entity in
Russia, “if this contributes to the convenience of users and the security
of operations.” Olga Goncharova, head of government relations for Russia
and the CIS countries, said that Binance supports the regulatory roadmap
as a step that “will make operations more understandable, transparent,
and user-friendly” while also noting the proposals need further
“calibration.” Another major crypto trading platform, Huobi, stated that
it hopes for an “open dialogue with Russian regulators.” Its team
believes that a constructive cryptocurrency law would help increase
confidence in digital assets and exchanges in both individual and
institutional investors. Crypto exchange AAX revealed it has no immediate
plans to establish an office in the Russian Federation but it also said
it may start working in this direction in case the regulations are
approved. AAX is ready to comply with what it described as “legitimate”
regulatory requirements. The exchange, which serves around half a million
Russian residents, remarked that it keeps information about its clients,
their balances, transactions, and trading activities. Russian lawmakers
are now working on a new bill to fill the regulatory gaps remaining after
the adoption of the law “On Digital Financial Assets.” The authors aim to
define which entities will be allowed to work with cryptocurrencies,
including crypto exchanges. Trading platforms incorporated abroad will be
subject to a “special” registration regime, the Deputy Chair of the
Security and Anti-Corruption Committee Andrey Lugovoy, one of the
sponsors, told Russian media. Do you think crypto exchanges will be able

Fear and Greed Index (@BitcoinFear) February 3, 2022 Bitcoin koers zakt
Toch
hield bitcoin hier gedurende nacht stand.
daalt daardoor hard. Hoe ver kan koers weer zakken? Volgens Whale Map is
het volgende supportniveau al te vinden rond $36.650-$36.850. Daar
kochten de whales namelijk veel BTC in: #Bitcoin
       pic.twitter.com/TDKPbwjEBS — whalemap (@whale_map) February 2, 2022 Mocht
bitcoin hierdoorheen zakken, dan vinden we wellicht support rond
#BTC I don't like long-term
predictions, but I think we may visit the 30k/33k zone. Historically, the
lower first standard deviation (1SD) of the VWAP has been support during
the bull market. In addition, this zone is located between the annual POC

vinden voor de bitcoin koers. Zo zag de Canadese bitcoin exchange-traded

million (10.6 billion baht) worth of cryptocurrency from decentralised

them was breached. Wormhole, which builds bridges between blockchains,

\"exploited\" for 120,000 units of a cryptocurrency called wETH.
So-called DeFi platforms allow users to lend, borrow and save - usually
in cryptocurrencies - while bypassing traditional gatekeepers of finance
such as banks. Wormhole has fixed the vulnerability in its system, it
said in a follow-up tweet early on Thursday, but was still working to get
the network back up. wETH is priced at nearly $2,649 apiece, according to

zelfs toe blijft nemen.
zelfgefinancierd adres,” stelt Chainalysis. 110 gebruikers zouden hiermee

     * "content": "ShutterstockNews emerged overnight of the potential theft of
more than US$326 million of Ethereum tokens from a blockchain bridge
(which connects two blockchains so cryptocurrency can be exchanged
between them). It’s no surprise. Crypto crime has been on the rise –
especially since the pandemic began. How are these crimes committed? And
what can you do to stay ahead of scammers? Direct theft vs scams There
are two main ways criminals obtain cryptocurrency: stealing it directly,
or using a scheme to trick people into handing it over. In 2021, crypto
criminals directly stole a record US$3.2 billion (A$4.48 billion) worth
of cryptocurrency, according to Chainalysis. That’s a fivefold increase
from 2020. But schemes continue to overshadow outright theft, enabling
scammers to lure US$7.8 billion worth of cryptocurrency from unsuspecting
victims. Crypto crime is a fast-growing enterprise. The rise of the
crypto economy and decentralised finance (or DeFi), coupled with record
cryptocurrency prices in 2021, has provided criminals with lucrative
opportunities. Australian data confirm the global trends. The Australian
Consumer and Competition Commission reported more than A$26 million was
lost to scams involving cryptocurrency in 2020 from 1,985 reports. In
December, federal police told the ABC crypto scam losses for 2021
exceeded A$100 million. That’s despite many incidents likely left
unreported, often due to embarrassment by victims. Theft from exchanges
Most consumers obtain cryptocurrency from an exchange. This involves
opening an account and depositing currency, such as Australian dollars,
before converting it to a chosen cryptocurrency. Typically the
cryptocurrency is held in a “custodial wallet”. That means it’s assigned
to the consumer’s account, but the private keys that control the
cryptocurrency are held by the exchange. In other words, the exchange
stores the cryptocurrency on the consumer’s behalf. But just as a bank
doesn’t hold all of its deposits in cash, an exchange will only hold
enough cryptocurrency in “hot” wallets (connected to the internet) to
facilitate customer transactions. For security, the remainder is held in
“cold” wallets (not connected to the internet). Unlike a bank, however,
the government does not have a financial claims scheme to guarantee
cryptocurrency deposits if the exchange goes bust. The recent BitMart
hack is a cautionary tale. On December 4, the exchange announced it had
“identified a large-scale security breach” resulting in the theft of
about US$150 million pls put AUD in brackets after any foreign dollar
amount in crypto assets from hot wallets. BitMart temporarily suspended
withdrawals and later promised it would use its “own funding to cover the
incident and compensate affected users”. It’s unclear when this will
happen, with the CNBC reporting in January that customers were still
unable to access their cryptocurrency. BitMart wasn’t the first exchange
to be hacked, and it won’t be the last. Similarly, consumers may be left
with losses if an exchange fails for commercial reasons, rather than
theft. Australians were left stranded in December when liquidators were
appointed over Melbourne-based exchange myCryptoWallet. One way consumers
can protect themselves from exchange theft, or insolvency, is to transfer
their cryptocurrency from the exchange to a software wallet (a secure
application installed on a computer or smartphone) or a hardware wallet
(a hardware device that can be disconnected from the computer and
internet). The cryptocurrency will then be under your direct control. But
be warned, if you lose your private keys, you lose your cryptocurrency.
Read more: The metaverse is money and crypto is king – why you'll be on a
blockchain when you're virtual-world hopping Types of scams Drawing on
the ACCC’s latest edition of the Little Black Book of Scams, the
following types of scam are commonly observed in the cryptocurrency
space, where the scammer is not personally known to the target: Email
phishing The scammer sends unsolicited emails asking for personal login
details, which can be used to steal cryptocurrency. Alternatively, they
may offer “prizes” or “rewards” in exchange for a deposit. Investment
scams The scammer creates a website that resembles a legitimate
investment trading platform. It may be a fraudulent copy of a real
business, or a completely bogus one. They may even post fake
advertisements on social media platforms, with fake celebrity
endorsements. In the latest news, billionaire mining magnate Andrew
“Twiggy” Forrest has launched criminal proceedings against Meta
(previously Facebook) for allowing scam ads using his image. More
sophisticated operations will have multiple scammers emailing and calling
victims to give the impression of being a legitimate organisation. After
cryptocurrency deposits are made, victims may be able to “trade” on the
fake platform but can’t withdraw their supposed earnings. Delay tactics
include asking for further deposits to be made for fees or taxes. Romance
scams The scammer creates a fake profile and matches with victims on a
dating app or website. They may then ask for funds to help them with a
personal crisis, such as needing a surgery. Or they may say they’re
trading cryptocurrency and encourage the target to get involved, leading
the victim into an investment scam, as described above. If a victim
doesn’t already have a cryptocurrency exchange account, scammers may also
coach them on how to open one. Some will mislead victims into installing
remote access software on their computer, granting the scammer direct
access to their internet banking or exchange account. Practical
challenges There are practical legal challenges in the crypto crime
environment. While reporting scams can be helpful in providing data and
intelligence for regulators and law enforcement, it’s unlikely to result
in the recovery of funds. Taking civil legal action may be possible, too,
but identifying perpetrators is difficult. Since cryptocurrency is by its
very nature global and decentralised, payments are often made to parties
outside of Australia. So prevention is easier than a cure. The main way
to avoid being scammed is to ensure you know exactly who you’re dealing
with, transact through a reputable exchange and ensure all the channels
you go through are verified. If an offer sounds too good to be true, it
almost certainly is. Regulation on the horizon In Australia,
cryptocurrency exchanges must be registered with AUSTRAC, in compliance
with anti-money laundering and counter-terror financing obligations. But
there are currently no other licensing requirements (such as capital
requirements or cybersecurity, for example). Last year, the Senate Select
Committee into Australia as a Technology and Financial Centre recommended
a more comprehensive licensing framework. The Australian government
agreed with the recommendation, and the federal treasury department is
due to begin consulting on what this will look like. Mandatory measures
to curb cryptocurrency crime at the exchange level will likely be high on
the agenda. Aaron M. Lane works for the RMIT University Blockchain
Innovation Hub and holds honorary research positions at the UCL Centre

US$7.8 billion worth of cryptocurrency from unsuspecting victims. Crypto
crime is a fast-growing enterprise. The rise of the crypto economy and
decentralised finance (or DeFi), coupled with record cryptocurrency
prices in 2021, has provided criminals with lucrative opportunities.
Australian data confirm the global trends. The Australian Consumer and
Competition Commission reported more than A$26 million was lost to scams
involving cryptocurrency in 2020 from 1,985 reports. In December, federal
police told the ABC crypto scam losses for 2021 exceeded A$100 million.
That’s despite many incidents likely left unreported, often due to
embarrassment by victims. Most consumers obtain cryptocurrency from an
exchange . This involves opening an account and depositing currency, such
as Australian dollars, before converting it to a chosen cryptocurrency.
Typically the cryptocurrency is held in a “custodial wallet”. That means
it’s assigned to the consumer’s account, but the private keys that
control the cryptocurrency are held by the exchange. In other words, the
exchange stores the cryptocurrency on the consumer’s behalf. But just as
a bank doesn’t hold all of its deposits in cash, an exchange will only
hold enough cryptocurrency in “hot” wallets (connected to the internet)
to facilitate customer transactions. For security, the remainder is held
in “cold” wallets (not connected to the internet). Unlike a bank,
however, the government does not have a financial claims scheme to
guarantee cryptocurrency deposits if the exchange goes bust. The recent
BitMart hack is a cautionary tale. On December 4, the exchange announced
it had “identified a large-scale security breach” resulting in the theft
of about US$150 million pls put AUD in brackets after any foreign dollar
amount in crypto assets from hot wallets.
Similarly, consumers may be left
with losses if an exchange fails for commercial reasons, rather than
theft. Australians were left stranded in December when liquidators were
appointed over Melbourne-based exchange myCryptoWallet . One way
consumers can protect themselves from exchange theft, or insolvency, is
to transfer their cryptocurrency from the exchange to a software wallet
(a secure application installed on a computer or smartphone) or a
hardware wallet (a hardware device that can be disconnected from the
computer and internet). The cryptocurrency will then be under your direct
control. But be warned, if you lose your private keys, you lose your
cryptocurrency . Read more: The metaverse is money and crypto is king –
why you'll be on a blockchain when you're virtual-world hopping Drawing
on the ACCC’s latest edition of the Little Black Book of Scams , the
following types of scam are commonly observed in the cryptocurrency
space, where the scammer is not personally known to the target: Email
phishing The scammer sends unsolicited emails asking for personal login
details, which can be used to steal cryptocurrency.
In the latest news , billionaire mining magnate Andrew
There are practical
legal challenges in the crypto crime environment. While reporting scams
can be helpful in providing data and intelligence for regulators and law
enforcement, it’s unlikely to result in the recovery of funds. Taking
civil legal action may be possible, too, but identifying perpetrators is
difficult. Since cryptocurrency is by its very nature global and
decentralised, payments are often made to parties outside of Australia.
So prevention is easier than a cure. The main way to avoid being scammed
is to ensure you know exactly who you’re dealing with, transact through a
reputable exchange and ensure all the channels you go through are
verified. If an offer sounds too good to be true, it almost certainly is.
In Australia, cryptocurrency exchanges must be registered with AUSTRAC ,
in compliance with anti-money laundering and counter-terror financing
obligations. But there are currently no other licensing requirements
(such as capital requirements or cybersecurity, for example). Last year,
the Senate Select Committee into Australia as a Technology and Financial
Centre recommended a more comprehensive licensing framework. The
Australian government agreed with the recommendation , and the federal
treasury department is due to begin consulting on what this will look
like. Mandatory measures to curb cryptocurrency crime at the exchange
level will likely be high on the agenda.",

updates. NEW DELHI, Feb 4 — India’s death toll from Covid-19 crossed
500,000 on Friday, a level many health experts say was breached last year
but obscured by inaccurate surveys and unaccounted dead in the
hinterlands, where millions remain vulnerable to the disease. The country,
which has the fourth-highest tally of deaths globally, recorded 400,000
deaths by July last year after the devastating outbreak from the Delta
variant of the coronavirus, according to official data. Some experts
believe the figures were much higher.“Our study published in the journal
Science estimates three million Covid deaths in India until mid-2021
using three different databases,” Chinmay Tumbe, an assistant professor
at the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad who co-authored the
study, told Reuters.Last month, the Indian government dismissed the study
as baseless in a notification saying there is a robust system of birth
and death reporting.India’s states record deaths from Covid-19 after
collating data from their districts. In the last few months, several
states have updated the number of deaths, some under pressure from the
country’s top court. In most instances, authorities said there were
lapses due to delayed registrations and other administrative errors.India
is currently in the midst of a third wave of the coronavirus led by the
Omicron variant, which some top experts say is already in community
transmission although federal officials say most cases are mild.Last
month, the government eased testing norms and told states to drop
mandatory testing for contacts of confirmed cases unless they were old or
battling other conditions. But, with the number of tests falling, the
government issued a revised circular warning states they would miss the
spread of the virus. But, as many infected people took the option of not
testing at all, total infection numbers may not reflect the extent and
severity of cases, said Gautam Menon, a professor of physics and biology
at Ashoka University near the capital who has been tracking the spread of
the virus.According to official figures, India’s overall number of
Covid-19 infections has reached 41.95 million, the second-highest
globally behind the United States.Reconciliation with time, griefIndia’s
cumulative tally of 500,055 deaths on Friday included 1,072 fatalities
reported over the last 24 hours, according to the federal health
ministry. Out of this, 335 deaths were reported from the southern state
of Kerala that has, for weeks, been updating data with deaths from last
year.Kerala, with less than 3 per cent of India’s 1.35 billion
population, accounts for nearly 11 per cent of the total deaths reported
in the country.“Some states such as Kerala are recording their backlog
deaths under judicial pressure, although not all states have done that,”
Menon said.In Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s home state of Gujarat,
authorities have received over 100,000 claims for Covid-19 compensation,
of which 87,000 claims have been approved, according to a senior
government official. The number of claims received is nearly ten times the
official Covid-19 death toll of 10,545, as per government data.“There has
not been any under-reporting of Covid-19 deaths...The policy for paying
compensation is very liberal as per the Supreme Court’s directives, which
is why the number of applicants is more than the Covid-19 deaths,” the
       official said. — Reuters",

tengo COVID”, relató Adal. “Y pues nada, me dio Ómicron, y acá, encerrado
View this post on Instagram

help manage a COVID-19 outbreak in the aged-care sector that has
stretched staffing and forced many homes into lockdowns, the prime
minister said on Friday as national infection numbers remained on a
downtrend. The government has come under pressure over the spread of the
Omicron variant in aged-care homes, with Richard Colbeck, minister for
senior Australians and aged care services, drawing criticism after he
attended a cricket match instead of appearing before a parliamentary
committee looking into the outbreaks. Prime Minister Scott Morrison said
he had asked the ministers of defense and health to see how defense
forces could support care homes, where many staff have had to isolate
because of infections. Morrison said about 560 aged-care residents had
died since Omicron hit in late 2021. He told reporters the defense force
was not a “shadow workforce” for the sector and cautioned against “simple
solutions to complex problems” but said they had to consider options.
“When you’re the prime minister, and the minister for health and aged
care, and the minister for defense, you have to deal with practical
options that work,” he said. The Australian Defence Force has been
involved in managing the pandemic response, with a lieutenant general put
in charge of the vaccine rollout and troops made part of the monitoring
of lockdowns in big cities. Total daily COVID-19 infections dipped across
Australia on Friday and were on track to be the lowest in more than a
month, with about 30,000 new cases logged in the biggest states. With
some states still to report figures, a total of 81 deaths had been
reported on Friday. (Reporting by Sam McKeith Editing by Robert Birsel)",

drive-through test sites previously open to the general public will also
be shuttered at that time, and the government will stop providing weekly
updates on new Covid cases, deaths, testing and vaccinations. The premier
went on to state that the measures would be halted not because “Covid has

rather because “people understand it better.” “They understand what they
need to do. They understand the risk and they are prepared to live with

social distancing rules on Friday (Feb 4) for an additional two weeks as
Omicron variant infections soar, including a 9pm curfew for restaurants
and a six-person limit on private gatherings. The restrictions were due
to end on Sunday but Prime Minister Kim Boo-kyum said the extension was
necessary to slow the spread of Omicron amid fears the Lunar New Year
holiday, which ended on Wednesday, may have fuelled infections. \"Slowing
the pace of the Omicron's spread, which is heading to its peak day after
day, is a priority in this difficult circumstance,\" he said at a
televised government response meeting. New daily cases have tripled over
the past two weeks, but the number of deaths and serious infections have
remained relatively low in the highly vaccinated country. South Korea
reported a record daily increase of 27,443 new Covid-19 cases, with 24
new deaths, the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency said on
Friday. Nearly 86 per cent of the country's 52 million population are
fully vaccinated, with 53.8 per cent having received booster shots. To
handle the surge in cases, the government has rolled out a new testing
regime under which only priority groups take a polymerase chain reaction
(PCR) test while others can get a rapid antigen test at a clinic for
faster initial diagnosis. It also reduced the mandatory quarantine time
for vaccinated people who test positive from 10 days to a week, and
allowed more people with few or no symptoms to be treated at home.
Overall, South Korea has reported 934,656 Covid-19 cases, and 6,836
       deaths since the pandemic began.",

Times Square on Dec. 13, 2021. The fast-moving omicron variant is
complicating a key question: How does the COVID-19 pandemic end and the
world co-exist with this virus? | Seth Wenig, Associated Press New York
City officials observed a potential new variant in wastewater, but say it
is no threat to people A team of researchers in New York City was
searching for the coronavirus in the city’s wastewater when they
discovered something surprising — viral fragments with a unique
collection of mutations for a coronavirus variant that had been never
been discovered. Why this matters: This is a potential sign of a new
undetected COVID-19 variant that hasn’t made its way through New York
City or the country yet. Yes, but: Researchers said there’s no evidence
that the lineage could become a risk to humans since it’s been
circulating for at least one year, according to The New York Times.
What’s happening: The New York City researchers published their recent
findings in the scientific journal Nature Communications. They’re still
unsure where this potential variant came from. They suspect the lineages
may be coming from people who are infected with the coronavirus but
aren’t captured by genetic sequencing. The lineages could be coming from
animals infected with COVID-19, including rats. The bigger picture: “I
think it’s really important that we find the source, and we have not been
able to pin that down,” said one of the researchers, John Dennehy, a
virologist at Queens College, according to The New York Times.
Understanding different COVID-19 lineages can be an important tool to
understanding the virus itself. Recently, a study published on the
Research Square preprint platform ahead of peer review found that the
omicron variant may be a combination of the BA.1 and B.35 lineages. While
BA.1 is strong enough to represent 4.17% of all COVID-19 cases, the B.35
lineage has only been seen in 0.0019% of sequences. The bottom line: So
while there may be new variants and lineages out there, some of them
       continue to go undetected.",

Porsche sold 185 vehicles in total last month. There were 181 Porsche
Taycans sold in January 2022, making up 98% of the legacy sports car
maker’s sales in Norway. In comparison, a total of 175 gas-only vehicles
were registered in Norway last month. The top-selling car brand last
month was Audi, with 952 car registrations. The Audi Q4 e-tron topped
January 2022’s car registrations in Norway, with 643 vehicles sold.
       (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); Last year, electric
vehicles started outselling ICE and hybrid vehicles in Norway, making up
more than half of car sales by June 2021. In January 2022, 9 out of 10
first-time registered new passenger cars were electric vehicles. The only
outlier or non-electric vehicle was the Toyota RAV4, a hybrid car. A
total of 271 Toyota RAV4 hybrid vehicles were registered in January 2022.
New passenger car registrations dropped from 10,301 in January 2021 to
7,957 last month. However, the market share of electric cars increased by
30.7%, amounting to 83.7% in total. Rechargeable hybrid vehicles made up
6.8% market share. (Credit: Porsche) According to the Norwegian Road
Federation (OFV), “no large boatloads of new cars” arrived in Norway in
January, resulting in a 30% decline in new car registrations per day
compared to the same month last year. OFV noted that the lack of
boatloads affected its statistics, as shown by Tesla’s sharp drop in
registrations in January. OFV stated the Tesla Model 3 was the most
popular vehicle in 2021, and it dropped to 48th place in the OFV’s
registration statistics last month. However, Tesla still made some
significant strides in Norway in January. The Texas-based EV automaker
rolled out its non-Tesla Supercharger pilot program in Norway at the end
of the month, widening its customer base at charging stations. With the
rise of electric vehicle sales, Norway needs to build a robust charging
infrastructure, and Tesla seems ready to step up to the challenge. The
Teslarati team would appreciate hearing from you. If you have any tips,

updates. SAN FRANCISCO, Feb 4 — Mark Zuckerberg lost US$29 billion (RM121
billion) in net worth on Thursday as Meta Platforms Inc’s stock marked a
record one-day plunge, while fellow billionaire Jeff Bezos was set to add
US$20 billion to his personal valuation after Amazon’s blockbuster
earnings.Meta’s stock fell 26 per cent, erasing more than US$200 billion
in the biggest ever single-day market value wipeout for a US company.
That pulled down founder and Chief Executive Officer Zuckerberg’s net
worth to US$85 billion, according to Forbes.Zuckerberg owns about 12.8
per cent of the tech behemoth formerly known as Facebook.Bezos, the
founder and chairman of e-commerce retailer Amazon, owns about 9.9 per
cent of the company, according to Refinitiv data. He is also the world’s
third richest man, according to Forbes.Amazon’s holiday-quarter profit
surged, thanks to its investments in electric vehicle company Rivian; and
the company said it would hike annual prices of Prime subscriptions in
the United States, sending its shares up 15 per cent in extended trading
and readying it for its biggest per centage gain since October 2009 on
Friday.Bezos’ net worth rose 57 per cent to US$177 billion in 2021 from a
year earlier, according to Forbes, largely from Amazon’s boom during the
pandemic when people were highly dependent on online
shopping.Zuckerberg’s one-day wealth decline is among the biggest ever
and comes after Tesla Inc top boss Elon Musk’s US$35 billion single-day
paper loss in November. Musk, the world’s richest person, had then polled
Twitter users if he should sell 10 per cent of his stake in the electric
carmaker. Tesla shares have yet to recover from the resulting
selloff.Following the US$29 billion wipeout, Zuckerberg is in the twelfth
spot on Forbes’ list of real-time billionaires, below Indian business
moguls Mukesh Ambani and Gautam Adani. To be sure, trading in technology
stocks remains volatile as investors struggle to price in the impact of
high inflation and an expected rise in interest rates. Meta shares could
very well recover sooner rather than later, with the hit to Zuckerberg’s
wealth staying on paper.Zuckerberg sold US$4.47 billion worth of Meta
shares last year, before 2021’s tech rout. The stock sales were carried
out as part of a pre-set 10b5-1 trading plan, which executives use to
allay concerns about insider trading. — Reuters",

Rogan, who has been called out by music legends Neil Young and Joni
Mitchell for spreading Covid-19 disinformation on the huge Spotify
streaming service, is as popular as he is provocative. At 54, the former
taekwondo champion has millions of fans, who appreciate his
outspokenness, his iconoclastic ideas, and the variety of his guests. But
he also has many detractors, starting with luminaries Young and Mitchell,
who removed their music from Spotify in protest at its hosting of Rogan’s
podcast. He has spread disinformation about the coronavirus and other
topics on the air. Both musicians said the false claims, and Spotify’s
failure to do anything about them, was the reason for their decision. R&B
singer India Arie followed suit, citing what she said were Rogan’s
“problematic” comments on race. For his accusers, he is particularly
dangerous because his show The Joe Rogan Experience, which has been
broadcast exclusively on Spotify since 2020 under a deal worth an
       estimated US$100 million (RM418 million), attracts a staggering 11
million listeners per episode on average.Often with a glass of whisky in
hand, he chats casually for two to three hours with a guest on topics as
varied as flying saucers, psychedelic drugs, red meat and fitness,
slipping in an expletive here and there. ‘Megaphone of right-wing
lies’Rogan, with a tongue as sharp as his arms are tattooed, was already
famous when he began the program in 2009.A comedian and martial arts
commentator known for tight T-shirts and what critics have branded his
“toxic masculinity,” in the 1990s he was a TV actor on sitcoms including
NBC’s NewsRadio. Later he hosted the popular reality show Fear
Factor. When he launched the podcast, his ratings quickly took off.People
from all walks of life asked to come on. In 12 years, he has hosted
nearly 1,000 guests — 88 per cent of them male, according to the fan site
JRELibrary. They include Tesla boss Elon Musk, who smoked a joint on his
set, whistleblower Edward Snowden and film director Oliver Stone. But
Rogan has also given voice to climate sceptics, conspiracy theorist Alex
Jones and, since the start of the pandemic, figures in the anti-vaccine
movement, earning him the label of “a veritable megaphone of right-wing
lies” by progressive website Media Matters for America.Posing as a critic
of political correctness, he has attacked the left for demonising
conservatives and flirted with unfounded theories held dear by former
president Donald Trump’s supporters — notably about the presence of
undercover FBI agents among the US Capitol attackers on January 6 2021.
Like the former Republican president, he hates “losers.” “I grew up
around a lot of losers and one of them was my dad,” a former police
officer who was violent and who left his family, Rogan said in an
interview in 2016. “There was a lot of desire to not be like that guy and
not be like all of these people around me who had no hope and no future.”
‘Differing opinions’ vs misinformationYet he defends himself against
accusations of being an ideologue or of voting exclusively on the right.
An atheist who supports gay marriage, the decriminalisation of soft
drugs, and the preservation of gun rights, he calls himself a libertarian
and said he even considered supporting self-described socialist Senator
Bernie Sanders in the last Democratic primary. As for his guests, “I’m
interested in having interesting conversations with people that have
differing opinions. I’m not interested in only talking to people that
have one perspective,” he said in a video posted on Instagram after
Young’s criticism that seemingly conflated misinformation with
opinions.“I’m not trying to promote misinformation,” he continued. “I
will do my best to try to balance out these more controversial viewpoints
with other people’s perspectives.”He said he agreed with Spotify’s
announcement in response to Young and Mitchell that Covid podcasts would
include links to factual and scientifically sourced information. In a
perhaps telling comment for someone who was already famous before
launching his podcast, he admitted he had not been ready for the
“strange” responsibility of having “this many viewers and
listeners.”“It’s nothing that I prepared for, and it’s nothing that I
       ever anticipated.” — AFP ",

(TRI) have modified a Supra sports to car perform sick drifts around a
racetrack — without a driver behind the wheel. While it’s extremely fun
to watch the sleek vehicle spin its wheels and weave around obstacles,
the institute claims it’s all in the name of car safety. And no, this
unfortunately isn’t about creating a chaotic new motorsport — and in the
end, they say, it’s not even about autonomous driving itself. “At TRI,
our goal is to use advanced technologies that augment and amplify humans,
not replace them,” said Avinash Balachandran, a senior manager at TRI, in
a statement. Supra Reaction Time Researchers behind the stunt are hoping
to glean insights into how professional racecar drivers react in certain
situations, like hitting a patch of black ice on the road, and use their
learnings to develop future car safety features. “Through this project,
we are expanding the region in which a car is controllable,” Balachandran
explained, “with the goal of giving regular drivers the instinctual
reflexes of a professional race car driver to be able to handle the most
challenging emergencies and keep people safer on the road.” For instance,
“when faced with wet or slippery roads, professional drivers may choose
to ‘drift’ the car through a turn, but most of us are not professional
drivers,” said Jonathan Goh, TRI research scientist, in the statement. To
make sure it doesn’t crash, the vehicle is crunching a huge amount of
data, recalculating its route twenty times a second. It can also apply
its brakes to each of its four wheels individually. It’s an impressive
feat of engineering that could one day even save lives. READ MORE: Toyota

him last October that its checks showed the battery had been through a flood,
and that voided the eight-year warranty.“We were seriously frustrated and
disappointed,” Campbell, 54, told the Post. “Tesla chose to assume with no

shivers down your spine. There were a lot of chaotic things, but in the United
States, there was one shortage that left the rest of the world confused- toilet

     * "full_description": "\"We have been projecting a quite robust growth for
India,\" IMF's Kristalina Georgieva said. The Union budget presented by
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is a very \"thoughtful\" policy
agenda for India and puts a great deal of emphasis on innovation in
research and development on human capital investment and digitalisation,
Managing Director of IMF Kristalina Georgieva has said. Finance Minister
Sitharaman unveiled a Rs 39.45 lakh crore Budget on Tuesday, with higher
spending on highways to affordable housing with a view to fire up the key
engines of the economy to sustain a world-beating recovery from the
pandemic. In the budget, she gave stress on spending on infrastructure to
create jobs and boost economic activity. The budget for the fiscal year
beginning April 2022 proposed a massive 35 per cent jump in capital
expenditure to Rs 7.5 lakh crore, coupled with the rationalisation of
customs duty, an extension of time for setting up new manufacturing
companies and plans for starting a digital currency and tax crypto
assets. \"We have been projecting a quite robust growth for India. Yes,
there is a small downgrade versus our previous projection from 9.5 per
cent to 9 per cent for 2022. But then we also have a small upgrade for
2023, because we think that we will see a stable growth not very
different from (those projected by) the (Union) Minister of Finance,”
Georgieva said during a virtual round table with a group of reporters on
Thursday. The International Monetary Fund (IMF) sees this being
conditioned on a number of factors, including that in the Covid-19
pandemic they continue to function better and should the pandemic
continue to be around, and that the tightening of financial conditions
would be done with clear forward guidance and in a prudent manner, not
creating any more significant shock, she said. \"So far, by the way, what
we see is that the tightening of financial conditions is not translating
into a big problem for emerging markets. In comparison to previous
periods, the impact on rates is not at all significant. Why? Because
emerging markets have worked to build buffers and strength for situations
like this and because many of them themselves have taken prudent actions
once they faced inflationary pressures,” she said. \"We are very positive
on the fact that India is thinking of addressing short-term issues, but
also long-term structural transformation, and that there is a great deal
of emphasis placed on innovation in research and development on human
capital investment and digitalisation, as well as thinking of how India
can accelerate the climate change agenda using economic instruments for
that,” Georgieva said. \"So, all in all, I read the (budget) statement
and I thought it was a very thoughtful policy agenda for India,” the lMF
MD said in response to a question. The Centre on Tuesday increased the
budgetary allocation for the Union Environment Ministry from the last
fiscal by 5.6 per cent but shrunk the allocation to control pollution by
Rs 10 crore. The government, however, increased the Budget for National
Mission for Green India from Rs 290 crore in the last financial year to
Rs 361.69 crore this year with the national afforestation programme alone
being allotted Rs 300 crore, more than last year's amount of Rs 235
crore. (Except for the headline, this story has not been edited by NDTV

Minister of Assam, while launching the Project Sadbhavana, said that he
wants the Government to be sympathetic and empathetic to the citizens and
the public. This, indeed, is laudable. Amongst various arms of the
Government, the important ones are health & hygiene, public distribution
system, the police, various offices in
sub-divisions/villages/blocks/District Magistrate, etc., as also the
judicial system. It is suggested that an autonomous body be formed at
Central level as well as in the districts and in the hinterland to
monitor and suggest ways so that citizen-friendly initiatives are
implemented. This should not just be a grievance redressal mechanism, but
more of a pro-active body with focus solely for the benefit of the
citizens. For this, the body has to be independent so that it can act on
its own. D Bhutia, Zoo Road, Guwahati. Do we consider mental struggle?
When it comes to the word 'struggle', we always imagine a picture of how
someone is dealing with his financial issues how someone overcomes a
serious disease or how someone reaches a goal from the zero point etc. We
always discuss the seen things. But do we ever think about the mental or
emotional struggle that a person carries silently? Mostly, no. A person
can be financially stable and physically fit, but still, he or she can be
fighting with their trauma, anxiety, disorder etc. A person may be
struggling hard to overcome the war inside him. The outcry, the anguish
always reverberates in silence. The increasing cases of suicide turn into
a horrible issue nowadays. Condemning a person who commits suicide
doesn't solve the problem, rather people must find out why these cases
are increasing. The major factor behind suicide is people cannot open up
themselves or they don't find a safe environment to vent out their
suffocation. The constant conflict inside someone results in the
inability to adapt or to adjust to circumstances and it creates a
permanent and major problem in one's mind. People lose control over their
own life. There are many psychological victims and passive sufferers
around us who are carrying giant volcanoes inside. If observed minutely,
we'll see they fail to express their suppressed thoughts properly and
later on get lost in the emotional baggage they carry in their lifetime.
As easy as it is to talk about physical illness, it is not so easy to
talk about our mental health in our society. Going to a psychiatrist is
still a focus of rumours for many people in our society. When asked if we
are well, even at the time of suffering from mental trauma or stress, we
simply say \"I am fine\". After absorbing pain, disturbance, anxiety,
pressure, a person starts losing mental balance at a time. The
instability gradually turns into illness and people lose their balance
when they get several mental injuries. In our simple language, they
become 'insane'. It's so painful to see them still being mocked and
rumoured by some of us in society. In a complex social matrix, the
emotional or mental condition of a human being is now tragic and
frustrated behind the mask. Sometimes it is absurd. The mental struggle
should be brought out to light for a healthy life. Society should be
supportive and normal if someone is fighting with any trauma, conflict or
disorder. People need a wide environment to unlock their inner self as
well as the help of mental health specialists. Mamani Das, Uzanbazar,
Guwahati. The Kakochang Waterfall On January 6, we left for a family
picnic at Kakochang Waterfall, one of the famous top ten picnic spots of
Assam located between Bokaghat and Kaziranga National Park in Karbi
Anglong, to celebrate the New Year. Our blissful journey started around
6:20 am by bus. We were altogether 24 members. Most of us were children.
We wanted to give them a treat on the eve of the New Year. It was an
educational tour for them as well. Our bus turned left at Bokajan and
moved to the picnic spot through a hilly-and-serpentine road amidst a tea
garden. We reached the spot within two-and-a-half hours. My previous
visit took more than three-and-a-half hours to cover the not-less-than
100-km distance from Bokajan due to the worst condition of the National
Highway. It is needless to say that the road is well furnished. From the
entry gate, innovative and beautification measures taken up by the
Tourism Department drew my attention. As soon as I found myself in a
beautiful place surrounded by hills, I was fascinated by the greenery.
\"Hills are blue when they are away.\" This saying doesn't hold good in
this case. Still now, the hills are blue and beautiful. The alarming
population growth is responsible for deforestation everywhere, leading to
ecological imbalance. The dramatic change I have noticed is that
Kakochang is also experiencing the impact of deforestation. Sooner forest
and tourism departments look into the matter, the better to preserve and
protect the incredible beauty of the sanctuary will be. We discovered a
suitable place for the New Year feast near the newly constructed Mass
Dining Set under the Tourism Department by the CEM, KAAC. From Diphu, the
distance of the waterfall is approximately three kilometres. Earlier, the
trek was more dangerous, not accessible to children, senior citizens and
differently-abled people. Now the road is in good condition. Earlier, one
had wade through seven streams to reach the magnificent waterfall. All
the streams have their origin from the waterfall itself. In 2018, we
enjoyed the barefooted journey. There is a footbridge over every stream.
Hence the journey is less hazardous now. Everybody can easily go to the
waterfall to enjoy and explore its beauty. With no time to waste, out of
ecstasy, I, along with some of my friends, headed to the waterfall. I
fell in love with the splendour and vibrant beauty of the wonderful gift
of nature. Nature has given us more than we seek. Visitors were clicking
selfies. Their joy knew no bounds. I also melted into the crowd and took
many selfies with my better half, son and friends. We spent an hour there
and got back to our picnic tent. On either side en route to the
waterfall, I spotted many makeshift small vendors selling potato chips,
kurkure, fresh pineapple pieces in disposable plastic glass and pork in
'bah chunga' (bamboo with hollow inside), the most delicious traditional
dish for pork lovers in the Northeast. The environment-friendly measures
are praiseworthy. Two or three women were continuously conducting
cleanliness drives and collecting the discarded plastic materials for
disposal. Two young boys were flushing out the sanitary toilets after
every use. It is a hygienic initiative by NRL. The place has water supply
facilities. I asked one of the Pan Shop owners about the rush of the
picnic parties. He told me that people throng the place from November to
January. I think the newly explored popular picnic spot will keep flooded
with tourists throughout the year from far and wide shortly. If
authorities encourage foreign tourists to the Kaziranga National Park to
explore the waterfall, it will boost the economy. A textiles shop also
drew the attention of the visitors to a great extent. We enjoyed it to
the fullest. Before leaving the place by 4 pm or so, I remembered Robert
Frost's poem \"The woods are lovely, dark and deep. But I have promises
to keep, And miles to go before I sleep, And miles to go before I
sleep.\" Bhubaneswar Dey, Bokajan. Age of digital currency The
Government, while presenting the Union Budget, announced the arrival of
'digital rupee' in the next fiscal year. To be introduced with the
objective of attaining a more efficient currency management system, the
digital rupee will be issued by RBI using blockchain technology. Being
one of the most awaited announcements, the digital rupee is likely to
have a host of benefits if properly introduced. Firstly, the cost of
printing and transporting physical currency will eventually come down
with more people shifting towards digital currency. Secondly, with the
digital rupee, the scope for counterfeiting will be almost negligible.
Thirdly, the traceability of money will increase and its anonymity will
decrease. It shall be much easier to ascertain whether the money is
reaching the intended beneficiary or not. Owing to the same reason,
incidents of tax evasion are also likely to come down. Moreover, the
digital rupee can be so programmed so as to control its allocation
towards development of various sectors. In a nutshell, it can be
concluded that the introduction of digital rupee is truly a right step in
the path towards realizing the goal of digital India. Manish Kumar
Chowdhury, Bamunimaidam, Guwahati. SC notice to Centre and Election
Commission Thanks to the Supreme Court for issuing notice to the Union
government and the Election Commission of India, expressing serious
concern over the vicious practice of political parties announcing freebie
offers in their election manifestos. The culture of freebies practised
and perfected by various political parties in India, feigning as
'populist schemes', has indoctrinated the voters and has affected a
well-rounded welfarist ideology. Dole-outs are nothing short of bribes,
and a government has no imperium to create private assets out of public
funds. Free distribution of goods is not a substitute for a truer welfare
model that seeks to achieve growth through enhancing productive resources
in the economy. Conventional wisdom dictates that unbridled populism and
widespread corruption are not only endemic to politics but are
antithetical to economic growth and human development. States in India
need higher per capita income, and not higher per capita usage of free
goods and services. And, we need politicians and political parties to
view us as 'citizens' and not just as 'voters', willing to reward those
who offer maximum 'muft' schemes. Ranganathan Sivakumar, Madipakkam,
Chennai. Rahul speaks in Parliament It is a welcome step that Rahul
Gandhi participated in the debate in Parliament and expressed his views
on various issues. India has matured as a democracy and the Opposition
has a very important role. It is a well known fact that for any
Opposition unity, Congress should be at the forefront and the other
parties should follow Congress. From 2014 TINA (There Is No Alternative)
factor is in existence and to break this factor all Opposition parties
should present a united face. Otherwise, the same will happen as happened
in 2014 and 2019 when Congress could not win 55 seats to get the status
of Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha. Congress is the ruling
party in Punjab, Chattisgarh and Rajasthan, and in Maharashtra and
Jharkhand it is in coalition with other parties. It is a sorry state of
affairs that off and on reports of dissidence are being seen. The party
should set its house right and curb activities of dissidence. The group
of dissidents which is also known as G23 should be consulted to avoid any
further loss to the party. Recently, a star campaigner from UP defected
to the BJP, which will further dent the prospects of the party. In UP the
party is already very weak and it has to do a lot of work to revive the
party. Due to indiscipline in the party it had to change the Chief
Minister in Punjab and is now facing a tough election battle in Punjab as
AAP is putting up a good fight in the State. To prepare for the 2024
General Elections, the party should complete the inner-party elections
from grass-root level and raise the national issues strongly in the
Parliament as well as at other platforms as Rahul Gandhi did in
Parliament. It is expected that the country will listen to such type of
debates in future too, which will strengthen democracy in the country.

Nirmala Sitharaman recently is a very “thoughtful policy agenda” for
India, International Monetary Fund, Managing Director, Kristalina
Georgieva said. “We have been projecting a quite robust growth for India.
Yes, there is a small downgrade versus our previous projection from 9.5
per cent to 9 per cent for 2022. But then we also have a small upgrade
for 2023, because we think that we will see a stable growth not very
different from (those projected by) the (Union) Minister of Finance,”
Georgieva said during a virtual round table with a group of reporters.
The International Monetary Fund (IMF), she noted, sees this being
conditioned on a number of factors, including that in the COVID-19
pandemic they continue to function better and should the pandemic
continue to be around, and that the tightening of financial conditions
would be done with clear forward guidance and in a prudent manner, not
creating any more significant shock. “So far, by the way, what we see is
that the tightening of financial conditions is not translating into a big
problem for emerging markets. In comparison to previous periods, the
impact on rates is not at all significant. Why? Because emerging markets
have worked to build buffers and strength for situations like this and
because many of them themselves have taken prudent actions once they
faced inflationary pressures,” she said. “We are very positive on the
fact that India is thinking of addressing short-term issues, but also
long-term structural transformation, and that there is a great deal of
emphasis placed on innovation on research and development on human
capital investment and digitalisation, as well as thinking of how India
can accelerate the climate change agenda using economic instruments for
that,” Georgieva said. “So, all in all, I read the (budget) statement and
I thought it was a very thoughtful policy agenda for India,” the senior
official said in response to a question.",

     * "description": "FinanceIndia is working on a legislation to regulate
cryptocurrencies, but no draft has yet been released publiclyPTIPixabay |
Representative ImageCryptocurrency will never be a legal tender, Finance
Secretary TV Somanathan said on Thursday, February 3, clearing the air on
the legality of private digital currencies in the market. The 2022-23
Union Budget has given a clarity on taxation of virtual digital assets
and proposed to impose a 30% tax on gains made on such trades, besides
subjecting crypto transactions beyond a threshold to 1% TDS (Tax Deducted
at Source). In an interview with PTI, Somanathan said that just like gold
and diamond, despite being valuable, are not a legal tender, private
cryptocurrencies too will never be a legal tender. \"Crypto will never be
a legal tender. Legal tender means by law it is accepted in settlement of
debts. India will not be making any crypto asset as a legal tender. Only
'Digital Rupee' of the Reserve Bank will be a legal tender in India,\"
Somanathan said. Except El Salvador, which in September last year adopted
Bitcoin as legal tender, no other country has made crypto a legal tender.
India is working on legislation to regulate cryptocurrencies, but no
draft has yet been released publicly. Meanwhile, a central bank-backed
digital currency will start circulating in the next fiscal to usher in
cheaper, more efficient currency management. From April 1, 30% tax will
have to be paid on income from cryptocurrencies. Income tax return form
from next year will have a separate column to declare gains from crypto.
Asked why the government has not listed private crypto regulation Bill
for the ongoing Budget session, despite listing it in the previous winter
session in December, Somanathan said, \"It was felt that wider
consultation is necessary before the legislation is brought on what
should be the nature of regulation; should there be a regulation or
should it be only taxation\". The government had listed for introduction,
the 'Cryptocurrency and Regulation of Official Digital Currency Bill' for
regulating cryptocurrencies in the previous session of Parliament. The
Bill comes amid concerns over such currencies being allegedly used for
luring investors with misleading claims. Currently, there is no
regulation or any ban on use of cryptocurrencies in the country. \"We are
in a democracy. In a democracy, the government starts with something but
then there is feedback. Government is listening to that feedback, based
on that feedback they are yet to come to a final conclusion on how it
should be done. Meanwhile, the questions of tax clarity cannot wait
forever because volumes have become very large,\" Somanathan said. He
further said that regulation of cryptocurrencies will have to take into
account the international consensus since there would be cross-border
transactions. \"Some international elements will have to be tied up to
make the regulation effective. All those consultations are on,\" the
finance secretary said. The crypto market in India grew 641% in the year
through June 2021, according to an October report by industry research
firm Chainalysis. As the country keeps pace with the global move towards
virtual financial instruments, the Union Budget has also announced that
India's central bank will launch 'digital rupee' in the next fiscal.",

the National Council for Co-Operative Training (NCCT) which has been
increased to Rs 39 crore in 2022-23. Earlier Rs 373 crore was allocated
under Central Sector Integrated Scheme on Agriculture Cooperation

govenrment has allocated Rs 11 crore to Vaikunth Mehta National Institute

BUDGET 2022-23 THOUGHTFUL POLICY AGENDA FOR INDIA, SAYS IMF MANAGING DIRECTOR
KRISTALINA GEORGIEVA

The Union budget presented by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman recently is a
very “thoughtful policy agenda” for India, International Monetary Fund, Managing
Director, Kristalina Georgieva said. “We have been projecting a quite robust
growth for India. Yes, there is a small downgrade versus our previous projection
from 9.5 per cent to 9 per cent for 2022. But then we also have a small upgrade
for 2023, because we think that we will see a stable growth not very different
from (those projected by) the (Union) Minister of Finance

be a record-breaking appearance in the Paris pool. Cate Campbell (front

extended break from competitive swimming, including this year’s
Commonwealth Games in August, which shapes as the major meet for the
Dolphins now the FINA World Championships set down for May have been
cancelled. Instead, Campbell and her partner will embark on a six-month
trip around Europe, something she believes will rejuvenate and rekindle
her passion for swimming as she tries to fend off the next generation of
home-grown sprint stars gunning for her spot on the national team. She
kept an open mind after Tokyo and sought counsel from current and retired
swimmers about her next move. But the voice telling her to begin the next
stage of her life never piped up and the plan was hatched with Swimming
Australia high-performance staff, including her new squad coach Damien
Jones. “When I got back from Tokyo, it wasn’t clear to me that I was done
with swimming. I wanted to take my time and I spoke to a few retired
athletes, just around this idea of ‘when do you know’. People say you
just know when it’s the right time to give it away… and I didn’t feel
like I had that sense of knowing,” Campbell said. “I knew I needed a
really big break physically and mentally. I wasn’t disappointed or
heartbroken like 2016 but I was very much burned out. It had been a
struggle to get to Toyko. “I think I was just plagued with the ‘what
could have been?’. The struggle of the extra year hampered me and it
probably took away a bit of the joy of swimming. I just don’t feel like
I’m ready to close the chapter but it’s not something I want to dive back
into right away.” Campbell currently shares the four-Olympic record with
fellow Tokyo squad member Emily Seebohm and breaststroke great Leisel
Jones. If she did manage to qualify for a fifth Games, it would put her
out on her own in Australia, matching the number of US great Michael
Phelps and recently retired Italian star Federica Pellegrini. “I had a
few questions to answer after Tokyo. Do I want to get back into the pool,
what does that look like and how do I get to the next Olympics? I’ve
achieved a lot in the sport but my Olympic preparations have never quite
been what I would like them to be. Paris is now the ultimate goal,”
Campbell said. Campbell is well down the path to a post-racing career and
has been working with multi-national services company Deloitte. But if
the pain of Rio taught her anything, it’s that time away from the
unrelenting grind of training is vital as she heads into the twilight of
a career that began as a teenager at Beijing in 2008. “One of the things
that goes hand-in-hand with trying to be the best at something is
sacrifice. I’ve never resented the sacrifices I’ve made but I feel like
if I didn’t take this opportunity to go and travel, I would resent
swimming for what it’s made me give up. “I don’t want to be in that spot
at the end of my career when I’ve enjoyed swimming so much and it’s given
me so much. Ultimately, it’s about the Olympics in 2024 and I want to be
emotionally and physically ready.” Campbell will be 32 by the time the
Paris meet begins and just making the team will be a challenge given the
sprinting depth in Australia. Emma McKeon is the Olympic 50m-100m
champion and looks like she will only get faster, while rising stars
Mollie O’Callaghan, Meg Harris and the returning Shayna Jack will all be
desperate for individual slots. But Campbell said being part of the
world-record breaking 4x100m relay team, which has won gold at the past
three Games, would be reward enough if it meant a ticket to France. “To
be a part of the Australian swim team is always a privilege, so to be
part of that is very special to me,” Campbell said. “But they (domestic
rivals) are going to make me lift my game, I’m going to have to swim to
their standard. But I have a lot of experience, I have little things to
improve and if I can keep mixing it with the best, I will. You can’t
really come back to the sport, lots have tried with varying degrees of
       success.”",

Roman Sadovsky put Canada in eighth place in the figure skating team
event at the Beijing Olympics. The 22-year-old from Toronto had a shaky
skate the morning after the Canadian team informed him he'd be stepping
in for Canadian champion Keegan Messing, who remains in Canada awaiting a
negative COVID-19 test. \"I was told to just stay ready, be prepared,\"
Sadovsky said on the late notice. \"All season I’ve been working toward
the Olympic Games. I know the Games have a team event. It’s a little bit
of an endurance kind of weekend after all the programs. I came here
prepared to do anything, really.\" With no room for error in the short
program, Sadovsky underrotated and two-footed the landing on his
quadruple Salchow to finish with 71.06 points. \"Kind of disappointing
honestly,\" Sadovsky said. \"Only because those are mistakes that I don’t
usually make. The quad Salchow is a comfort jump for me. It was very
successful this season. There was just a slight mishap on the takeoff
that didn’t allow me to pull in. \"Definitely your mind races a little
bit (after an early mistake). Like, right after it happens. But I know
from experience that you’ve got to throw that away and really stay
present in the moment and that’s what I did after the first jump.\"
Canada was tied with Georgia for sixth after two events in the 10-team
competition. Ice dancers Piper Gilles, form Toronto, and Paul Poirier,
from Unionville, Ont., gave the Canadians some needed points after
finishing fourth with their program to an Elton John's \"I Guess That's
Why They Call It the Blues.\" The U.S. led the way in the overall
standings with wins in the first two events, followed by the Russian team
and Italy. Nathan Chen's score of 111.71, just 0.11 shy of the world
short-program record held by Japan's Yuzuru Hanyu. Japan's Shoma Uno was
second (105.46), while Russia's Mark Kondratiuk was third (95.81). Chen
scored 11.00 points for his quad flip, while Sadovsky, by comparison,
scored just 4.3 on his quad attempt. Chen's triple-triple combination
scored 17.27, compared to 7.20 for the Canadian. In the ice dance,
Madison Hubbell and Zachary Donahue of the U.S., finished first with
86.56 points, followed by Russians Victoria Sinitsina and Nikita
Katsalapov at 85.05 and Charlene Guignard and Marco Fabbri of Italy at
83.83. Gilles and Poirier finished with 82.72. The pairs program was set
for later Friday. A couple hundred fans sat in every other seat,
resembling a checkerboard, in a section of the Capital Indoor Stadium.
They politely clapped during the programs — cheering isn't permitted due
to COVID-19 safety restrictions. The teams have their own rinkside booths
to cheer on teammates, and rather than await scores in the traditional
\"kiss and cry,\" skaters rejoin their teammates when they've skated.
Sadovsky, the Canadian silver medallist last month behind Messing, hasn't
been told whether Messing might arrive in time for Sunday's men's free
program — countries are allowed to substitute skaters between the long
and short program. But Sadovsky, who's making his Olympic debut, said
he's preparing as if he'll skate. \"I haven’t really been in touch with
(Messing),\" he said \"We’re not that close to be honest. Nothing against
him, we’re just not the closest. We haven’t been in touch and I don’t
know the status.\" The men's singles individual event begins with the
short program on Tuesday. The women's short program is also Sunday.
Medals will be awarded on Monday after the free programs for pairs, ice
dance and women. The team event — which features one entry per country in
each of the four disciplines — was added to the Olympic program in 2014
in Sochi, where Canada captured silver. A Canadian team led by ice dance
stars Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir won gold four years ago in Pyeongchang.

a real tangible way you could probably make some positive change.“But

WHAT SPORTS ARE INCLUDED IN THE BEIJING WINTER OLYMPICS 2022?

It is time to grab your skates and brush up on your curling knowledge, as the
WInter Olympics is finally here. The 2022 sporting event is underway in China –
