5 BEAUTY TRENDS YOU’LL BE SEEING EVERYWHERE THIS AUTUMN

Statement lashes, a grunge revival and pops of colour. Just some of the beauty

A new season is almost upon on us, bringing with it a whole new raft of beauty
trends. And autumn/winter 2024 promises to be bold and experimental.

5 BEAUTY TRENDS FOR AUTUMN/WINTER 2024

1. Add a pop of colourful eyeshadow to the inner corner of the eyes

While there are no rules when it comes to which shade you should use, the
placement of the eyeshadow is important. For the autumn/winter 2024 shows,
make-up artists chose to place colourful eyeshadow in the inner corner of
models’ eyes, resulting in an edgy twist. As for the flash of neon at Dior,
make-up artist Peter Philips said he “imagined an unexpected, colourful and
vibrant look, inspired by Marc Bohan’s creations, so we illuminated the inner
corner of the eyes by depositing a pink flash, like a flower petal. This
chromatic audacity, with its deliberate imperfections, is a free gesture that
allows for surprise and contrast, while creating a beauty that is both visionary
and timeless.”

2. The grunge smoky eye

As the nights draw in, smoky eyes take on a grungy twist – think smudgy black
shadow and wet texture. Prabal Gurung, Helmut Lang, Moschino, Tom Ford,
Sportmax, Jason Wu and Versace all gave the classic smoky eye a messier (dare we
say brattier?) finish.

3.Lashes that beggar belief

“Lashes as thick as toothbrush bristles,” were the order of the day at
Giambattista Valli, where make-up artist Karin Westerlund conjured a
’60s-inflected beauty look inspired by Mia Farrow. To achieve this, she applied
five rows of false lashes, before piling on layers of mascara. Thick, statement
lashes were also fluttering away at Giorgio Armani, Thom Browne and Emilia
Wickstead.

4. Fringe details

The fringe has had a makeover for the new season, with a grungy, wet-look take
at Ludovic de Saint Sernin and Prabal Gurung, sculptural versions at Rokh, and a
casual take at Etro and Emilia Wickstead.

5. Bohemian waves

Chemena Kamali revived the boho Chloé woman this season, with hairstylist Gary
Gill creating soft waves, infused with the ’70s spirit of the Chloé wardrobe.
The mood was echoed at Rabanne and Ann Demeulemeester.
