NATIONAL DISCOVERY CLOUD FOR CLIMATE WORKSHOP

San Diego Supercomputer Center, UC San Diego

The National Science Foundation (NSF) initiated the development of a National
Discovery Cloud for Climate (NDC-C) to “federate advanced compute, data,
software, and networking resources, democratizing access to a
cyberinfrastructure ecosystem that is increasingly necessary to further
climate-related science and engineering”. The NDC-C builds on many existing
efforts supported by the CISE and GEO directorates across the entire science
vertical from hardware to foundational infrastructure to software services to
core climate research to community activities.



The workshop will lay the groundwork to establish the NDC-C community and
outline the path forward toward an NDC that spans all fields of science and
engineering. We will explore cross-cutting collaborations, and define the
objectives and a possible path forward for collective impact.  The participants
will be led through discussions to develop requirements that are central to the
creation, operation, and sustainability of an NDC-C.
