ABOUT WILLIAM NORINE, MUSICIAN AND AUTHOR

                Musician

I majored in music at the University of Minnesota, where I played solo drums in
the concert band and jazz ensemble, playing behind Urbie Green at Carnegie Hall
in 1975.    I also hold a Masters Degree from the New England Conservatory of
Music, and was for six years an instructor at Boston’s world-famous Berklee
College of Music.   While teaching at Berklee, I was named a Massachusetts
Artists Fellow in Jazz Composition. and also published two advanced drum
methods: Virtuoso Studies for the Drum Set, and Four Way Fusion for the Modern
Drummer.  I also self published two snare drum methods, entitled Technical
Studies for Snare Drum.  While teaching at Berklee I conducted numerous clinics
and master classes in drumming, which were all well received.  I also performed
often at the Berklee Performance Center with my own group, and taught at the
annual Berklee Jazz Festival.  I have performed under Gunther Schuller, George
Russell, and with Myroslav Vitous, Mike Stern, Fred Hersch, Jaki Byard, Jerry
Vale, Urbie Green, and many others.  My album Skyward was widely praised in
Boston Media, and is in fact what resulted in my Massachusetts Artists
Fellowship Award.   It was described as “sparkling” by none other than Vic Firth
himself.

My musical pedagogy (teaching) subjects include:

    Snare Drum Technique

Drum Set Coordination, Time Feels, and Soloing.

Brush Technique (including demonstrate of my little book “Brush Rudiments.”

A review of other methods of my authorship which I used at Berklee

Demonstration of Etudes and examples from my published drum methods.

I also have considerable experience in working with combos and concert
band.  I am eager to share my talents with others.
