PH Embassy recognises Ambassador Steven Robinson as an outstanding diplomat and
champion of PH-AU relations









12 October 2022 - Philippine Ambassador Ma. Hellen De La Vega hosted lunch in
honor of former Australian Ambassador to the Philippines Steven Robinson and his
wife Mrs. Rhonda Robinson on 12 October 2022 and expressed her utmost
appreciation for his outstanding contributions in advancing
Philippines-Australia relations. Ambassador Robinson served as the Australian
Ambassador to the Philippines from 2019-2022 and led enhanced bilateral
cooperation in development, security and defense, and trade and investment.

Under his stint, the Philippines and Australia also celebrated 75 years of
diplomatic relations in 2021 with the theme, “Mateship and Bayanihan,” which are
shared values of friendship, communal unity and solidarity.

PH Embassy and National Museum of Australia discussed implementation of Cultural
Agreement Executive Program









10 October 2022, CANBERRA – In celebration of the Museums and Galleries Month in
the Philippines, Ambassador to Australia Ma. Hellen B. De La Vega met Dr. Mathew
Trinca, Director of the National Museum of Australia on 07 October 2022 to
discuss possible areas of cooperation to implement the Executive Program 2022-
2026 of the 1977 Philippines-Australia Cultural Agreement. The Executive
Program, signed in February 2022, was proposed by the Philippines as part of the
commemoration of the 75th anniversary of bilateral relations in 2021. Director
Trinca proposed joint cooperation to enhance capability development of museum
practice in the region.

De La Vega met virtually with the newly established Filipino Tech Community
Canberra (FTCC) on 23 September. As part of its efforts to strengthen bilateral
cooperation on science, technology and innovation, the Embassy of the
Philippines in Canberra has been engaging the Filipino STEM community in
Australia. In April this year, the Embassy organized an online forum on the
Balik Scientist Program of the Department of Science and Technology and in
September, the Embassy promoted Filipino maritime advocates.

De La Vega celebrated the 25th Anniversary of the Barrio Fiesta Festival on 27
August 2022 at the prestigious Darwin Waterfront, a popular and central area for
cultural events in Darwin, Northern Territory. Dubbed as “Hala Bira”, the
fun-filled Barrio Fiesta showcased a Philippine village, Filipino food stalls, a
street parade and a cultural show featuring Filipino artists based in Darwin and
in Adelaide, South Australia. In the evening, a concert featuring Filipino
multi-awarded singer KZ Tandingan was held.

informed her of the Northern Territory’s current need to fill workforce

Ambassador De La Vega visits Paspaley Pearls in Darwin

provided a tour of the Paspaley Showroom and Workshop at the Charles Darwin
Centre on 28 June 2022. Paspaley is one of the world’s leading producers of
cultured pearls. Known for their high quality and luxury pearls, Paspaley
employs Filipino workers including pearl graders.

The pearl industry in the Northern Territory played an important role in
initiating people-to-people linkages between the Philippines and Australia with
the arrival of the first Filipinos in the 1860s as pearl divers. Known as the
Manilamen, they made lasting social and economic contributions in Darwin, Broome
and Torres Strait where they first settled.--END

PH exports first shipment of uncooked shrimps to Australia







08 June 2022, Sydney – The Philippines’ first shipment of uncooked shrimps to
Australia arrived at the Port of Melbourne on May 30.

The initial 20 fcl shipment of raw peeled and deveined (RPD) Vannamei shrimps
was made possible by Fisher Farms, Inc (FFI), with two more shipments expected
to arrive in Australia in June and July.

06 June 2022, CANBERRA – In a business reception held on 31 May 2022 at the
Perth Townhall, Philippine Ambassador to Australia H.E. Ma. Hellen B. De La Vega
said that the Philippines has surpassed its pre-pandemic GDP level with 8.3
percent GDP growth recorded in the first quarter of 2022. She also underscored
the opportunities that the 110 million mostly young and digital population of
the Philippines has to offer to Australian business. The Australia Philippines
Business Council organized a reception to commemorate 75 years of diplomatic
relations of the Philippines and Australia in 2021.

The Mobile Consular Mission in Darwin processed 304 passport applications from
17 – 19 May 2022



24 May 2022 – During the Mobile Consular Mission in Darwin conducted from 17-19
May 2022, the Philippine Embassy in Canberra processed 304 passport applications
and administered the oath of allegiance to 14 Filipinos who reacquired their
Filipino citizenship through Republic Act No. 9225 or the Citizenship Retention
and Reacquisition Act of 2003.
