Retained HR Services
As your retained HR department our aim is to integrate dedicated resource(s)
into your business.  We undertake all HR administration. We advise senior
management team on all HR related matters.

We will be present in your office(s) to get to know employees and understand
your business and your culture. Time requirement varies depending on the size
and needs of the business.  We have the flexibility to increase or decrease our
time commitment as the needs of the business change.  You have access to HR
advice whenever you need it, whether we are in your office that day or not.  We
want you to view us as you would any employee within the business and so ask for
advice when you need.  All employees within your business can access our
services as we are your HR department / working as part of your HR department.

HR Projects
We undertake bespoke HR projects, working alongside in house HR teams where
applicable, providing senior level expertise and practical advice.  We can
provide internal communications expertise delivering the required messages to

HR MAKEOVER FOR IT COMPANY

Office move, expanding the workforce and installing new HR policies – all at the
same time.

HR makeover for IT Company

Requirement:
This growing IT Company had an office move planned in conjunction with an
expanding workforce.

Solution:
McLean developed policies to establish basic health and safety requirements
(fire evacuation procedures, DSE, first aid) and these were set up and
documented as part of the planned move. A strategy was devised for exits,
including resignations, exit interviews and poor performers. Our team member
worked with third parties to put in place benefits for pension, death in service
and private healthcare. McLean provided coaching to managers to deal with any
ongoing issues or to support them with recruitment as and when required. Our
team member devised and ensured there was an induction system in place to
welcome new joiners and developed the company’s annual appraisal system.

Outcome:
Once these structures were in place, McLean managed the ongoing HR needs to
ensure a supportive and visible relationship with all employees and continued to
work with senior leaders to manage and develop the business strategy from a HR
perspective. McLean advised managers on best practice when dealing with
disciplinary, capability, redundancy and grievance situations, provided a
framework for the meetings, gave employment advice, carried out investigations
and prepared any documentation that was required.

GUIDING MEDIA FIRM ‘ACROSS THE POND’

Guiding media firm ‘across the pond’

Requirement:
A US media firm, without a UK presence had planned to acquire two UK based media
Companies.  One based in London and the other near to Birmingham.  The firm had
a strong HR team, based in the US, but required local expertise and presence to
manage all HR matters related to the acquisition and the 70 employees in London.

Solution: 
McLean HR managed the TUPE process, (consulting with employees, creating the
documentation and guiding the US media company through the process) and created
processes, procedures and documentation for the UK business post acquisition.

Outcome:
Following the acquisition, the McLean HR team member who had led the TUPE
process, continued to support the newly acquired UK business, to effectively be
the HR Manager for the UK, liaising with the US HR team.

 * Work undertaken to date has included:
 * setting the UK HR strategy with the senior management team
 * coaching managers on a variety of HR related matters
 * performance management, underperformers and the annual performance review

RAPID GROWTH AT FINANCE COMPANY

Rapid growth at a start-up asset management company required all the people
policies and procedures to be put in place quickly.

Who:
Start up Asset Management Company, London
Requirement: The company had approximately 20 employees with continuing rapid
growth plans for the next 24 months and engaged McLean HR to conduct a HR audit
and to provide ongoing HR services for 2 days per month.

Solution:
Our dedicated team member initially spent one day a week based at their office
to ensure they became an established part of the organisation and was also
available throughout the week, by email and / or phone when needed.

Our team member met with employees and managers to build up their knowledge of
the company, its culture, challenges and opportunities. Given the size and the
rapid growth at the outset, the first step was to carry out an audit of what was
already in place from a HR perspective and what areas required additional
focus.  All documentation was reviewed including employment contracts,
handbooks, policies and procedures and all legal aspects of employment.  Where
changes/new processes were recommended, it was first discussed and agreed with
the management and then implemented by McLean HR.

Outcome:

 * Updated contracts and employee handbook to be legally compliant
 * Onboarding process, including right to work checks and an induction programme
 * Introduction of benefits, including pension, private medical and death in
   service
 * Leaver process, including exit interviews
 * Annual appraisal process created, linked to compensation

In parallel to the HR Audit, given the extensive growth plans, McLean HR devised
a headcount planning and recruitment strategy. This involved meeting with
suitable recruitment agencies alongside the client, agreeing a preferred
supplier list, negotiating terms and conditions and creating job descriptions. 
McLean HR provided guidance to interviewers on best practice interview
techniques and took an active role in the recruitment process from interview
stage to offer and onboarding /assimilation.

After the completion of the HR audit, the dedicated team member continued to
manage all HR aspects.  This involved doing all day to day HR, in addition to
working with the management team on all complex/strategic HR matters, attending
the office every other week, and outside of this time, we were fully available
on email, phone and could attend the office where needed.

Melanie has Human Resources experience across a number of industry sectors
including Financial Services, Retail, Entertainment and Technology.

Melanie studied for her CIPD qualification whilst at Marks and Spencer before
joining Evolution Group where she was appointed Head of Human Resources. Melanie
worked with the Board of Directors during a period where the firm saw rapid
growth and extensive restructuring.

In addition, she was heavily involved in a number of significant acquisitions
including that of BNP Private Investment Management Ltd, Singer & Friedlander
Investment Management Ltd and Williams de Broë plc and finally, the acquisition
of Evolution Group by Investec.

Melanie founded McLean HR with the intention of providing commercially focused
practical HR solutions for clients that didn’t necessarily need fulltime HR
resource but required advice from an experienced professional on a variety of
issues.

Lucy is a highly experienced Human Resources Executive with experience across
all areas of HR – from a deep expertise in recruitment to broader HR operations
such as talent management, compensation, diversity and leadership development.

With almost 20 years experience, Lucy has held key roles at globally prestigious
companies including Goldman Sachs, ABN Amro, Hays and Harvey Nash.  She is
versatile, dedicated and has worked and lived in the UK, US, Continental Europe
and China.

Before joining McLean HR as an Human Resources Consultant focused on supporting
fast growth technology start-ups, Lucy’s most recent in-house role was as
Vice-President and Executive Director at Goldman Sachs where she spent 5 years
in both Recruitment and HR Generalist roles.  Lucy has always maintained a
strong focus on relationship management and a ‘people first’ approach. She has
worked directly with CEOs and Executive teams as a strategic business partner
to deliver tangible business results through HR.

Outside of work, Lucy is passionate about education and providing opportunities
for marginalised children. Lucy has sat on the board of various charities and
not-for-profit organisations as a non-executive director – including Shining
Star, a Chinese orphanage dedicated to blind children. Currently she
serves as a Governor and Vice-Chair of the PTA at a local Primary School.  She
holds a BA with Honours from Nottingham University.

Andrew brings a wealth of commercial, sales and advisory experience to McLean HR
and has over 25 years experience in a number of leadership roles.  Andrew
started his career in HR as a Graduate Trainee for Bass plc progressing to Head
of HR for one of the businesses’ operating companies before moving into
commercial, sales and general management leadership roles.  He has headed up
project teams charged with restructuring businesses to better deliver
organisational objectives and managed the procurement and implementation of HR
information systems.  Andrew has worked in the Consumer, FMCG, Retail,
Manufacturing and PE start-up sectors.  Andrew enjoys working closely with his
clients on driving business growth through ambitious but pragmatic HR.   Andrew
is CIPD qualified and is interested in leadership, corporate culture and the
development of high performance teams.

Anne-Laure graduated from EIM Sup de Co with a BA with Honours. She is also an

Anne-Laure is originally from France and has lived in Spain, China, Ireland and
the UK. This experience has given her a great understanding of how to manage

acquisition and spent over 4 ½ years as a Senior Consultant with a professional
recruitment consultancy.

Ryan has extensive experience in contingency recruitment, and he has placed
candidates in both permanent and contract positions. Ryan’s can-do attitude,
