We undertake all HR administration. We advise senior management team on all HR related matters. We will be present in your office(s) to get to know employees and understand your business and your culture. Time requirement varies depending on the size and needs of the business. We have the flexibility to increase or decrease our time commitment as the needs of the business change. You have access to HR advice whenever you need it, whether we are in your office that day or not. It is the reason why our clients stay with us for many years. HR MAKEOVER FOR IT COMPANY Office move, expanding the workforce and installing new HR policies – all at the same time. Read more HR makeover for IT Company Requirement: This growing IT Company had an office move planned in conjunction with an expanding workforce. Solution: McLean developed policies to establish basic health and safety requirements (fire evacuation procedures, DSE, first aid) and these were set up and documented as part of the planned move. A strategy was devised for exits, including resignations, exit interviews and poor performers. Our team member worked with third parties to put in place benefits for pension, death in service and private healthcare. McLean provided coaching to managers to deal with any ongoing issues or to support them with recruitment as and when required. Our team member devised and ensured there was an induction system in place to welcome new joiners and developed the company’s annual appraisal system. Outcome: Once these structures were in place, McLean managed the ongoing HR needs to ensure a supportive and visible relationship with all employees and continued to work with senior leaders to manage and develop the business strategy from a HR perspective. McLean advised managers on best practice when dealing with disciplinary, capability, redundancy and grievance situations, provided a framework for the meetings, gave employment advice, carried out investigations and prepared any documentation that was required. Close GUIDING MEDIA FIRM ‘ACROSS THE POND’ Post acquisition integration, including TUPE process, for a US media firm Read more Guiding media firm ‘across the pond’ Requirement: A US media firm, without a UK presence had planned to acquire two UK based media Companies. One based in London and the other near to Birmingham. The firm had a strong HR team, based in the US, but required local expertise and presence to manage all HR matters related to the acquisition and the 70 employees in London. Solution: McLean HR managed the TUPE process, (consulting with employees, creating the documentation and guiding the US media company through the process) and created processes, procedures and documentation for the UK business post acquisition. Outcome: Following the acquisition, the McLean HR team member who had led the TUPE process, continued to support the newly acquired UK business, to effectively be the HR Manager for the UK, liaising with the US HR team. * Work undertaken to date has included: * setting the UK HR strategy with the senior management team * coaching managers on a variety of HR related matters * performance management, underperformers and the annual performance review * employee relations * compensation and benefits * learning and development McLean remained onsite one day per week, varying this between London and Birmingham whilst being available to the business at all other times, either by phone, email or additional visits Close RAPID GROWTH AT FINANCE COMPANY Rapid growth at a start-up asset management company required all the people policies and procedures to be put in place quickly. Read more Rapid Growth at Finance Company Who: Start up Asset Management Company, London Requirement: The company had approximately 20 employees with continuing rapid growth plans for the next 24 months and engaged McLean HR to conduct a HR audit and to provide ongoing HR services for 2 days per month. Solution: Our dedicated team member initially spent one day a week based at their office to ensure they became an established part of the organisation and was also available throughout the week, by email and / or phone when needed. Our team member met with employees and managers to build up their knowledge of the company, its culture, challenges and opportunities. Given the size and the rapid growth at the outset, the first step was to carry out an audit of what was already in place from a HR perspective and what areas required additional focus. All documentation was reviewed including employment contracts, handbooks, policies and procedures and all legal aspects of employment. Where changes/new processes were recommended, it was first discussed and agreed with the management and then implemented by McLean HR. Outcome: * Updated contracts and employee handbook to be legally compliant * Onboarding process, including right to work checks and an induction programme * Introduction of benefits, including pension, private medical and death in service * Leaver process, including exit interviews * Annual appraisal process created, linked to compensation In parallel to the HR Audit, given the extensive growth plans, McLean HR devised a headcount planning and recruitment strategy. This involved meeting with suitable recruitment agencies alongside the client, agreeing a preferred supplier list, negotiating terms and conditions and creating job descriptions. McLean HR provided guidance to interviewers on best practice interview techniques and took an active role in the recruitment process from interview stage to offer and onboarding /assimilation. After the completion of the HR audit, the dedicated team member continued to manage all HR aspects. This involved doing all day to day HR, in addition to working with the management team on all complex/strategic HR matters, attending the office every other week, and outside of this time, we were fully available on email, phone and could attend the office where needed.
