The stock market records just keep coming. The Dow Jones Industrial Average
closed above 40,000 for the first time Friday. The popular S&P 500 index hit an
all-time high Wednesday — its 23rd record close this year, and a phenomenal
rebound from last year, when the index had no record closes. This bullishness is
a clear sign that investors believe the United States will experience a “soft
landing,” with inflation continuing to cool off and the economy continuing to
grow.
