The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed above 40,000 for the first time Friday. The popular S&P 500 index hit an all-time high Wednesday — its 23rd record close this year, and a phenomenal rebound from last year, when the index had no record closes. This bullishness is a clear sign that investors believe the United States will experience a “soft landing,” with inflation continuing to cool off and the economy continuing to grow.
