USD GRADUATES LIGHT THE WAY FORWARD AT COMMENCEMENT 2024

It was an especially memorable commencement season at the University of San
Diego, as hundreds of graduates — many who missed out on their high school and
undergraduate ceremonies four years ago during the COVID-19 pandemic — walked
triumphantly across the stage and received their diplomas to loud applause
inside the Jenny Craig Pavilion.

LIGHTING THE WAY FORWARD CONFERENCE CONVENES CATHOLIC THOUGHT LEADERS FOR
IMPORTANT DIALOGUE

University of San Diego kicked off its 75th anniversary with a conference
intended to dream of a better future. Lighting the Way Forward convened a unique
group of roughly 175 individuals to discuss the purpose of Catholic high
education in a contemporary world.

BUILDING CONNECTION AND ALLYSHIP THROUGH STORYTELLING

There's More, a student-led storytelling podcast, hosted "The Privilege, Power &
Politics of Decolonizing Education" in November. The partnership with the Office
of the Tribal Liaison was held to coincide with Native American Heritage Month.

CELEBRATING 20 YEARS OF SCIENCE AT USD

It has been two decades since an initial idea started taking shape: Bring USD's
four science programs together into one space focused on interdisciplinary
teaching and collaboration — the Donald P. Shiley Center for Science and
Technology.

A BRIDGE TO BELONGING

Summer Bridge, a free, one-week intensive program provided by Student Support
Services (SSS) helps eligible incoming students transition to life at USD. The

Chris Speed '20 (MBA)

Knauss School of Business alumnus Chris Speed '20 is Pixel Go-to-Market Manager
at Google. When he was around 18 years old, Speed remembers thinking, "I wonder
what Google does?" Today, it’s safe to say he knows plenty about the tech giant.

Dean Noelle Norton, PhD, College of Arts and Sciences

Noelle Norton, dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, joined the University
of San Diego podcast to talk about what inspired her to get into higher
education and how a liberal arts education can help enrich students' lives
beyond the classroom.

Rohanee Zapanta '98 (BA), '02 (JD)

San Diego Superior Court Judge Rohanee Zapanta believes strongly in the
importance of representation. Zapanta '98 (BA), '02 (JD) was recently named the
"Most Influential Filipina Women in the World" by the Foundation for Filipina
Women's Network (FWN).

Ethan Addams and Brennan Martin

First-year students Ethan Addams and Brennan Martin met during an introductory
business course. A few weeks later, the duo walked away with $15,000 in seed
funding and the title of champions of the 2023 Fowler Business Concept
Challenge.
