It was great to be able to Camp again after two very long years of not smelling
canvas. Horizon's Spring Camp '22 was once again held at Holly Barn in the
Forest of Dean, where the girls canoed on the River Wye, walked the countryside,
explored Symonds Yat and its surrounds, spent time pony riding and gained their
Unicorn Challenge badges. Cooking on both gas and an open fire helped renew
skills unused for a while, whilst the camaraderie of camping together once again
wove its magic.

NEWS MESSAGE FROM OUR CHIEF GUIDE, Amanda Medler

It’s with deep sadness we learnt that our Patron, Her Majesty The Queen has
died. Our deepest sympathies are with the Royal Family at this very sad time.

The Queen first joined Guides at the age of 11, when she became a member of the
1st Buckingham Palace Guides, she went on to become a Ranger, then in 1953, the
same year she came to the throne, she became our Patron.

Throughout her life the Queen was an example of the spirit of Guiding. Every day
she kept her promise to do her best, live according to her beliefs, and to help
people. These values are echoed in the Promise that all Rainbows, Brownies,
Guides and Rangers make.

The Queen has inspired our girls and young women to help their communities
across the UK and beyond. Here at Girlguiding we’ll be reflecting on our
connection to the Queen over the coming days and weeks, making sure that her
legacy lives on in guiding.

We’re honoured and grateful for the support and friendship she gave to
Girlguiding as our patron. We join the nation in mourning the loss of a truly
inspirational Guide, the Queen.

So who are we?

Girlguiding Kidlington is one of 3 Districts (including North & West Oxford)
that make Girlguiding Oxford City II Division.
Girlguiding Oxford City II Division is one of 11 Divisions in Oxfordshire.
Oxfordshire is one of 12 Guiding Counties in the Anglia Region ..... and Anglia
is one of 6 Regions in England.

Girlguiding Kidlington is vibrant and fun for all ages, from our smallest
Rainbow Guide to our oldest Trefoil member, there is something for everyone.

We are part of the UK's largest voluntary organisation for women, in turn part
of an international organisation with over 10 MILLION members worldwide.

Without Leaders we would not be able to offer all the wonderful opportunities we
do.  Leaders are unpaid, trained volunteers who give their free time to run
units.

Girls aged between 5 & 7 can join Rainbows. Rainbows take part in games and
activities as part of the #Every Girl Programme Stages 1 & 2. They can work for
Interest Badges and  may gain the Rainbow Bronze, Silver or Gold Award.
Occasionally Rainbows are lucky enough to take part in Rainbow overnights. This
gives them the opportunity to experience being away from home in a safe and
secure environment. They have a practical uniform consisting of red jogging
bottoms, polo shirt & hoodie

IN KIDLINGTON WE HAVE 2 RAINBOW UNITS MEETING SATURDAY & SUNDAY

Girls aged between 7 & 10 can be Brownies. Brownies work in smaller groups
called Sixes.  As well as taking part in games and activities Brownies
participate in the #Every Girl Programme at Stages 2 & 3. They can work for
Interest Badges and  may gain the Brownie Bronze, Silver and Gold Award.
This prepares them for moving up to Guides when they turn 10. Brownies are able
to work towards a number of badges and also to take part in Brownie Holidays.
Brownies also have a practical uniform consisting of a range of brown & yellow
coloured shorts, trousers,tops & hoodie

IN KIDLINGTON WE HAVE 5 BROWNIE UNITS MEETING MONDAY, TUESDAY early
& late, THURSDAY & SUNDAY

Girls aged between 10 & 14 can join Guides. Guides also work in small groups
called Patrols. They take part in a number of activities and work on the #Every
Girl Programme Stages 3, 4 & 5. They can also work for Interest Badges and may
gain a Guide Bronze, Silver or Gold Award. Guides can also go on camps and
holidays and occasionally go abroad. The uniform is also a practical one which
allows the girls to choose from a selection of navy tops & a hoodie with their
own “home bottoms”.

IN KIDLINGTON WE HAVE 3 GUIDE UNITS MEETING MONDAY, WEDNESDAY & FRIDAY.

Rangers is for girls and young women aged between 14 to 18, although there is
also a Social Pathway for all those between 18 and 30 who may not be able to
commit to a uniformed role. Many members also help with the younger Sections as
Young Leaders and also participate in the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme. They
also work on the #Every Girl Programme, but for them it's Stages 5 & 6. They can
also work for Interest Badges and may gain the Ranger Bronze, Silver and Gold
Awards. Rangers also camp, sleepover & go abroad (the photo below shows a
Horizon August 2018 Promise Ceremony at the Colloseum in Rome). They also get
the chance of an "International opportunity", this may be with a County Group,
or after a Selection process they may represent Girlguiding at an event
overseas. Financial help is available for these trips.

The Trefoil Guild is an organisation which is made up of adults aged 18
upwards who have had connections with either Guiding or Scouting, but are unable
to make a regular commitment. Members often support Distict events and Units,
whilst some participate in the Voyage Award Scheme. Guilds aim to keep alive
among members the spirit of the Guide and Scout Promises and Laws, carry that
spirit into the communities in which members live & work and to give practical,
financial and moral support to Guiding and Scouting.
