Horizon's Spring Camp '22 was once again held at Holly Barn in the Forest of Dean, where the girls canoed on the River Wye, walked the countryside, explored Symonds Yat and its surrounds, spent time pony riding and gained their Unicorn Challenge badges. Cooking on both gas and an open fire helped renew skills unused for a while, whilst the camaraderie of camping together once again wove its magic. NEWS MESSAGE FROM OUR CHIEF GUIDE, Amanda Medler It’s with deep sadness we learnt that our Patron, Her Majesty The Queen has died. Our deepest sympathies are with the Royal Family at this very sad time. The Queen first joined Guides at the age of 11, when she became a member of the 1st Buckingham Palace Guides, she went on to become a Ranger, then in 1953, the same year she came to the throne, she became our Patron. Throughout her life the Queen was an example of the spirit of Guiding. Every day she kept her promise to do her best, live according to her beliefs, and to help people. These values are echoed in the Promise that all Rainbows, Brownies, Guides and Rangers make. The Queen has inspired our girls and young women to help their communities across the UK and beyond. Here at Girlguiding we’ll be reflecting on our connection to the Queen over the coming days and weeks, making sure that her legacy lives on in guiding. We’re honoured and grateful for the support and friendship she gave to Girlguiding as our patron. We join the nation in mourning the loss of a truly inspirational Guide, the Queen. So who are we? Girlguiding Kidlington is one of 3 Districts (including North & West Oxford) that make Girlguiding Oxford City II Division. Girlguiding Oxford City II Division is one of 11 Divisions in Oxfordshire. Oxfordshire is one of 12 Guiding Counties in the Anglia Region ..... and Anglia is one of 6 Regions in England. Girlguiding Kidlington is vibrant and fun for all ages, from our smallest Rainbow Guide to our oldest Trefoil member, there is something for everyone. We are part of the UK's largest voluntary organisation for women, in turn part of an international organisation with over 10 MILLION members worldwide.
