<h4><strong>Message from Suffolk County Acting Police Commissioner Robert E. Waring</strong></h4>
<p>Welcome to Suffolk County Police Department SHIELD, a member of the Global SHIELD Network. SCPD SHIELD was designed as a partnership program between the public/private sector and the Suffolk County Police Department. Its
main purpose is to enhance crime prevention and counter-terrorism efforts here in Suffolk County. </p>
<p>I have been a member of the Suffolk County SHIELD program for many years and believe in the mission of the SHIELD program. In order to leverage this program’s success and avail our county of New York City Police Departments
vast experience in terrorism prevention, our department opted to partner with the NYPD when we stood up our SHIELD program. Today, we are part of a growing Global SHIELD Network (GSN). The GSN consists of police agencies
across the globe sharing information and intelligence in order to help keep our region and county safer. </p>
<p>Information sharing is a key to success. Our public/private sector partners are the eyes and ears of the community. No one is in a better position to identify suspicious activity than our public/private sector partners. By
working together we can help keep our county safer. </p>

<h3 class="text-danger">Free Training Opportunities </h3>
<p>The Homeland Security and Criminal Intelligence Bureau is now offering free security related seminars for businesses and organizations in Suffolk County. The following seminars can be scheduled by contacting the Homeland
Security office: </p>
<p><strong>Active Shooter</strong> - Seminars are individually designed for management, staff or general audiences. Seminars can be tailored to a time frame of 45 to 90 minutes in length and are designed to inspire discussion and
offer suggestions for improvements in critical incident planning. </p>
<p><strong>Bleeding Control Basic (B-Con)</strong> - Designed for civilians to learn how to recognize and control life-threatening bleeding associated with massive wounds before EMS arrives. This course is associated with DHS's
national "Stop the Bleed" campaign. The course is delivered by SCPD's Medical Crisis Action Team (MEDCAT) and Stony Brook University Hospital Trauma Center. </p>
<p><strong>Safety in the Sanctuary</strong> - Designed for houses of worship, our Active Shooter seminar is modified to meet unique challenges faced by religious centers. </p>
<p><strong>Vulnerability Assessments</strong> - In an effort to promote public safety, the SCPD is offering to all residents and business owners a security survey or review of your security plans. This service is designed to help
identify security issues in your home or business. </p>
<p>Free training is made available to businesses and organizations in Suffolk County. To learn more about these programs and to schedule training, send an email request with your contact information to:

<p>Video surveillance is one of the best methods for apprehending criminals and convicting suspects who are caught in the act of committing a crime. The SCPD invites you to join our crime fighting team by joining our Camera
Registry Program. The program allows citizens and business owners to register the locations of their video surveillance systems with the Police Department. </p>
<p>Using the geographic locations of the registered cameras, the Department will be able to request program participants to check their video surveillance system for a specific date and time for video capturing a suspect, getaway
car or a crime. If the participant finds any video evidence, they can contact the SCPD to make arrangements for video retrieval at the convenience of the camera owner. </p>

The Shield concept was created by the New York City Police Department and has now been adopted by the SCPD and a growing number of Law Enforcement agencies worldwide. SCPD SHIELD fosters information sharing and awareness regarding national, regional and local criminal activity and counter-terrorism issues. WARING Welcome to Suffolk County Police Department SHIELD, a member of the Global SHIELD Network. SCPD SHIELD was designed as a partnership program between the public/private sector and the Suffolk County Police Department. Its main purpose is to enhance crime prevention and counter-terrorism efforts here in Suffolk County. I have been a member of the Suffolk County SHIELD program for many years and believe in the mission of the SHIELD program. In order to leverage this program’s success and avail our county of New York City Police Departments vast experience in terrorism prevention, our department opted to partner with the NYPD when we stood up our SHIELD program. Today, we are part of a growing Global SHIELD Network (GSN). The GSN consists of police agencies across the globe sharing information and intelligence in order to help keep our region and county safer. Information sharing is a key to success. Our public/private sector partners are the eyes and ears of the community. No one is in a better position to identify suspicious activity than our public/private sector partners. FREE TRAINING OPPORTUNITIES The Homeland Security and Criminal Intelligence Bureau is now offering free security related seminars for businesses and organizations in Suffolk County. The following seminars can be scheduled by contacting the Homeland Security office: Active Shooter - Seminars are individually designed for management, staff or general audiences. Seminars can be tailored to a time frame of 45 to 90 minutes in length and are designed to inspire discussion and offer suggestions for improvements in critical incident planning. Bleeding Control Basic (B-Con) - Designed for civilians to learn how to recognize and control life-threatening bleeding associated with massive wounds before EMS arrives. This course is associated with DHS's national "Stop the Bleed" campaign. The course is delivered by SCPD's Medical Crisis Action Team (MEDCAT) and Stony Brook University Hospital Trauma Center. Safety in the Sanctuary - Designed for houses of worship, our Active Shooter seminar is modified to meet unique challenges faced by religious centers. Vulnerability Assessments - In an effort to promote public safety, the SCPD is offering to all residents and business owners a security survey or review of your security plans. This service is designed to help identify security issues in your home or business. Free training is made available to businesses and organizations in Suffolk County. COUNTER-TERRORISM & ANTI-CRIME INITIATIVES VIDEO CAMERA REGISTRATION Video surveillance is one of the best methods for apprehending criminals and convicting suspects who are caught in the act of committing a crime. The SCPD invites you to join our crime fighting team by joining our Camera Registry Program. The program allows citizens and business owners to register the locations of their video surveillance systems with the Police Department. Using the geographic locations of the registered cameras, the Department will be able to request program participants to check their video surveillance system for a specific date and time for video capturing a suspect, getaway car or a crime. If the participant finds any video evidence, they can contact the SCPD to make arrangements for video retrieval at the convenience of the camera owner. Register your video camera here...
