Budget 2023-24

The North Queensland Water Infrastructure Authority (NQWIA) will be abolished as
a standalone Executive Agency and non-corporate Commonwealth entity for 2023-24.
Responsibility for functions currently undertaken by the NQWIA will be
transferred as appropriate to the Department of Climate Change, Energy,
Environment and Water (DCCEEW).

NORTH QUEENSLAND WATER INFRASTRUCTURE AUTHORITY

To provide strategic planning and coordination of Commonwealth resources to
deliver water security and boost agriculture in northern Queensland.


THE ORGANISATION

The North Queensland Water Infrastructure Authority was established on 12 March
2019 to provide strategic planning and coordination of Commonwealth resources to
implement the Hughenden Irrigation and the Hells Gates Dam (including Big Rocks
Weir) projects.

The Authority works collaboratively with stakeholders, Local Governments and the
Queensland Government to progress water infrastructure feasibility and planning
activities, including the development of business cases eligible to receive
Australian Government funding from the National Water Grid Fund.




PROJECTS

North Queensland Water Infrastructure Authority is currently responsible for:

 * Hughenden Irrigation Scheme
 * Hells Gates Dam Scheme (inc Big Rocks Weir)
