We are thankful that Mt. Rose remains unharmed by the Davis Fire, as the fire
did not cross into the ski area boundary. We are incredibly and forever grateful
to the fire crews and emergency personnel who worked hard to contain the fire.
Our hearts are with our neighbors downslope who have been evacuated from their

It’s been a big year for our mountain wide sustainability initiatives. This
summer, we held two trash cleanups in Tahoe Meadows, removing 70+ pounds of
trash in July and another 35 pounds in August.
A key part of our waste reduction plan is composting food scraps. Last season,
we composted over 1,000 lbs. of kitchen and guest waste at Winters Creek Lodge.
Composting is extremely effective for reducing greenhouse gas emissions, by
preventing food waste from decomposing anaerobically in a landfill where it
produces methane - a strongly potent greenhouse gas. Our food scraps turn into
compost soil which we make available to employees and use for on-mountain
revegetation projects.
Additionally, our employee carpool efforts have prevented well over 20 tons of
GHG emissions over the last 2 seasons. Last season alone, we avoided over 14,700
vehicle miles with employee carpooling.
Last ski season, we introduced reusable dishware in our main lodge and
incentivized employees to use reusable mugs while at work. These measures helped
decrease our main lodge landfill waste by over 30%.
You can help us prevent waste by placing reusable dishware in the appropriate
return bin for a wash and another use! You can also help by sorting recyclable
waste appropriately: metal and glass cans and bottles, #1 and #2 plastic, and
cardboard are all recyclable at the lodge.

We want to give a big congratulations to our new Lift Operations Manager, Tiana
— though most of us know her on the mountain as 'T'.
True to her name, she’s a ‘Friend’ to everyone at Mt. Rose. Never one to shy
away from lending a hand or picking up a shovel, Tiana's technical expertise and
leadership make her an invaluable member of our team. She began her career at
Mt. Rose in 2017, and this marks her 7th season with us!
“What I love most about working here is that it's always changing. Not just the
weather, but I've also been lucky enough to work on many different projects in
the off-season. I’ve made a family out of the people who also love it here.
Hearing how much those who have worked here for 20+ years still love and
appreciate being here plays a big part in why I always come back."
