Google will run the 2024 CTF competition in two parts: an online jeopardy-CTF competition, and a different on-site contest open only to the top 8 teams of the online jeopardy-CTF competition. "Capture The Flag" (CTF) competitions are not related to running outdoors or playing first-person shooters. Instead, they consist of a set of computer security puzzles (or challenges) involving reverse-engineering, memory corruption, cryptography, web technologies, and more. When players solve them they get a "flag", a secret string which can be exchanged for points. The more points a team earns, the higher up it moves in rank. What is the prize? The top 3 teams from the jeopardy CTF will earn prizes of 12k, 5k, or 3k USD; and the top 8 teams will be invited to another contest to compete for additional prizes of up to 7k USD. For details check the rules of the Google CTF. How does it work? If this is your first time playing a CTF, take a look at this video, and this guide. In summary, we will release several challenges during the CTF, and each challenge has a secret value (a "flag") with the format CTF{some-secret-value-here}. If you find the flag, you can submit it for points. Where can I ask a question? You can reach us by email at google-ctf@google.com or join the Discord.
