WHAT IS FAMILY VIOLENCE?

You and your children have the right to feel safe in your home and community.

What is Family Violence?

Family violence can make you and your children feel unsafe.

Family violence comes in many forms:

Physical:

 * holding, pushing, slapping, punching, pinching
 * hurting you with weapons

Sexual:

 * forcing you into sex or a sex act, rape
 * hurting the sexual parts of your body

Object damage:

 * throwing, breaking and damaging your belongings and house
 * killing or threatening to harm pets

Emotional:

 * Looking, speaking, or acting in threatening or scary ways
 * Threatening you, and saying things to make you feel bad about yourself

Social Abuse:

 * Saying bad stuff about your family and friends to isolate you
 * Making visitors feel unwelcome & keeping you away from other people
 * Controlling who you speak to, where you go and what you do
 * Saying hurtful things about you to others to make you feel bad.
