A basic DBS check is a criminal record check that can be requested by yourself
or an employer (with your permission). A basic DBS check certificate shows
details of any past convictions, including any unspent conditional cautions
under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974.

The majority of basic DBS checks take 14 days to process, providing that we do

application has no obstacles, expect to receive your certificate in the post
within 7 to 14 days.

WHAT HAPPENED TO CRB CHECKS? 

Employers used to be able to access criminal records via CRB checks. CRB checks
were performed by the Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) and the Independent
Safeguarding Authority (ISA) handled barred lists. However, as part of the
Protection of Freedoms Act 2012, the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS)
replaced the CRB and ISA. This is when DBS checks took over from CRB checks. The
functions of the check are exactly the same.
