WELCOME TO AFIKRA GLOBAL YOUTH ACADEMY

Apply to join the afikra leadership program designed for high school students
with a deep interest in the Arab world. Learn about our past and present, and
help shape this region’s future.

AFIKRA GLOBAL YOUTH ACADEMY

GYA’s flagship online program engages young leaders in learning about the Arab
World’s diverse cultures and teaching them how to reshape the region’s
narrative. Our 8-week online program consists of Saturday sessions led by our
afikra Lead Instructor and culminates in the students developing their very own
afikra presentation. Through our virtual study abroad model, the students will
form life-long connections with other students from around the world and make
new intellectual connections about the Arab world’s music, visual arts,
architecture, literature, history, and other aspects of our cultures.

The students will attend six 90 mins classes, every Saturday.

BOOKMARKS

Each class explores resources on a different topic such as photography,
literature, architecture, history, visual arts, and music.


LEADERSHIP & CAREER PREP

Through the course, students have the opportunity to build their leadership
skills by selecting their own areas of research, developing a professional-style
presentation, offering feedback to other participants, and networking with
various professionals in the broader afikra community.

PRESENTATION DESIGN

Students are invited to critically examine past and current discourse on the
region. By telling these stories through original content creation, students
become active participants in shaping the discourse themselves.


NETWORK ON THE
COMMUNITY FORUM

Students gain access to the entire afikra network, where they find course
materials and resources and participate in peer discussions. In addition,
students can construct online profiles with brief descriptions that ease virtual
interaction and networking among peers. After graduating, participants join the
GYA Alumni Network, where they can network with students from past and future
cohorts.
