WELCOME TO
THE ACADEMY AT ST JAMES

I would like to welcome you on behalf of the children, staff and governors to
the website of The Academy at St James.  Hopefully it will provide all the
information you need about our welcoming and vibrant school.

At St James, we strive to provide our children with the very best to ensure they
can be successful in whatever they choose to do.  We encourage everybody to work
hard, accept challenges and take risks in order to be the best person you can
be.

We have high expectations for our children and ask them to persevere,
collaborate and use their imagination to fulfil their dreams.  At St James
nothing is impossible and we have our slogan, which is:

Aspire, Achieve, Believe!

We ask our children, parents and local community to aspire to the very highest
standards possible in all that they do. We do this to provide a platform for the
children to achieve their very best and develop into responsible and thoughtful
citizens. Our aim is to provide the children with the knowledge, skills and
attributes to be successful lifelong learners.

As a new head, I firmly believe that every moment matters! Our job is to provide
an engaging and exciting curriculum for all of our children; it is to develop
their literacy and numeracy skills so they can be successful in later life and
it is to work hard with parents and our local community to raise aspirations for
all.  We want the best possible education for your child and we will make sure
that we achieve this by working together.

Everyone can achieve at The Academy at St James and through working in
partnership we can create many magical memories for you and your child.

We look forward to welcoming you to our school and hope you enjoy our website to
see all the fun and exciting things that happen here.

 * Y6 end of year play..."brilliant performance, very funny in places and well
done for remembering all your lines!"

"... excellent play and well done to all! Well done for having clear voices."

"... The Tempest was a fantastic production and it was evident how much
effort all the staff and pupils had put into it. Well done all staff and
   students of Year 6."

"... the play was brilliant and the children did really well, enjoyed every
   minute."

"... really enjoyed The Tempest, well done to all the children! Thank you to
   all staff!"

 * Amy Garrido- I just wanted to say what a pleasure your staff and students
have been on their 4 trips this term. We have a diverse range of students
visiting us here … all of my team have commented on the impressive manners
and attitude shown by your students and also on the fact that the adults have
been so positive and shown enthusiasm and engagement with the activities
which makes a big difference to the day. A perfect example is the teacher
last week who had to lead the group from the Devonshire Arms, her
cheerfulness meant that the children just got on with it and enjoyed the day
anyway. It would have been a different story had she handled it in a negative
way …. I just wanted to pass on how impressed we all were.

 * Kev Payne- Author- "Loved my day here. So many interesting ideas and bags of
energy from the children. Thanks for having me."

 * Alex Fellowes- Drama- "Working through drama with Years 1 and 2 in role as
Phileas Fogg and 'Around the World in 80 Day's.' Absolutely excellent day.
The pupils responded so well and enthusiastically to Drama work and with
first rate listening skills and lots of imagination. A joy to work with.
Also, Sally and her staff were brilliant and so supportive and helpful. Also,
a total pleasure to work with."

 * "I came in to deliver a day of rap workshops from Authors Abroad. The
students were brilliant, really up for the challenge and gave so many ideas
and lyrics and we had a lot of engagement and fun. Staff were very friendly
and welcoming. Loved the day and hope to come again!!"

 * "Kids were all absolutely lovely, interested and eager to learn and
contribute. A lovely place!"- Sarah Hallworth

 * Ross Welford: "Loved this school (and I visit a lot!) Great kids and a
wonderful atmosphere. Thanks for having me."

 * Navigate: "Wonderful school, very helpful, friendly staff, thank you!"

 * Ben Casey- Wonderdome- "Fantastic! Fab staff and students."
