You may have heard Veeam is the leader in backup for Microsoft 365 with Veeam
Backup for Microsoft Office 365. But did you know this software has many
flexible deployment types from CapEx on-prem to completely OpEx IaaS in the
cloud? In fact, this software can be deployed directly from the AWS or Azure
marketplace, and in IBM Cloud, with the software already installed and ready for
your organization. Running the software on a hyper-scale cloud like Azure, AWS
or IBM Cloud can help align your company with any cloud-first initiative and
cloud migration goals while giving you back control of your data.

Keep in mind that this is a standard deployment, and every environment is
different, so it may be necessary to make configuration changes specific to your
organizations’ needs.

DEPLOYMENT CHECKLIST

Since the software is available to deploy directly from the market, it takes
very little work to get the software running. Each marketplace requires a
different set of steps to deploy correctly. As a general rule, make sure
deploying to the cloud is suitable for your organization after exploring all
options available. Here are items you will need to get started:

 * An account with AWS, Azure or IBM Cloud where you plan to deploy
 * An object storage account to send backups to
 * Already-configured networking for an IaaS deployment
 * Basic working knowledge of the cloud infrastructure for the selected vendor

The basics for creating a storage account for each vendor will be covered to
demonstrate how to authenticate the object storage in the console, but any
specifics on security and performance settings for each vendor will not. These
decisions need to be made by your organizations’ policies. Each vendor offers
numerous configuration options; everything in this demonstration is a default.

DEPLOYING FROM THE AZURE MARKETPLACE

from the AWS Marketplace as an instance with the software already installed.
Below is a checklist of what to expect in the video:

 * How to create a key pair to log into the instance
 * How to find Veeam Backup for Microsoft Office 365 in the AWS Marketplace
 * Necessary settings to deploy stack for the instance
 * How to create an object storage account
 * Where to find storage credentials needed for the software
 * How to use key pair to log into the instance
 * Configure Veeam Backup for Microsoft Office 365 for the first job run

DEPLOYING FROM IBM CLOUD

Veeam Backup for Microsoft Office 365 can be deployed directly to a machine in
IBM cloud through add-ons. When deploying a new VM or IaaS machine from IBM
cloud, select a machine that has sufficient resources and the Micrisoft Windows
operating system. Then under the OS add-ons section select Veeam Backup for
Microsoft Office 365, this will automatically deploy the software to the new
instance. Below is the checklist for configuring the software directly on IBM
Cloud:

 * Create a new instance with desired resources
 * Confiugre operating system to Microsoft Windows
 * Select Veeam Backup for Microsoft Office 365 under OS add-ons
