WHY IS THERE A DRONE FLYING AROUND MY HOME OR BUSINESS?


WHAT DRONE PILOTS DO

That’s a great question. Drone Pilots perform many tasks. They are typically
called them missions. There are drone Pilots in many fields. You are probably
most familiar with them being with the Military, or with Law Enforcement. While
it’s true that you will find alot of drone operators in these fields, there are
many other reasons you might see a drone or it’s Pilot near you. 

Some of the most common reasons you might be seeing a drone around your property
are for Real Estate sales, inspections, construction site monitoring, and many
more reasons as well. If you want to learn about many of the different uses for

Most drone Pilots are professionals and are only using the drone as a tool. A
licensed drone Pilot doesn’t want to invade your privacy, spy on you, or harm
you or anybody that you know with the drone. Licensed drone Pilots are held to a
strict set of guidelines and regulations that are set by the FAA. 

If you feel that a Pilot is doing something inappropriate or unsafe, feel free
to contact the authorities and let them handle it. If you witness a Pilot doing
something unsafe, please dial 911.

WHAT IS A DRONE?

Per the FAA, a Drone (also called a UAV, or sUAS) are unmanned aircraft. These
devices are indeed professional tools, and are considered aircraft by the United
States Government. There are 3 categories for commercial and recreational
drones. The military also operates drones, of a much different variety.

DRONE PILOTS

Commercial Drone Pilots (also known as Part 107 Pilots, or UAV/sUAS Pilots) are
Federally licensed Pilots who are required to pass an airman’s knowledge test to
be issued a license by the FAA. This is similar to a traditional Pilots license,
which is also issued by the FAA. 

They are required to maintain proficiency, and retest every 2 years to ensure
they are aware of new rules and regulations regarding being a pilot, as well as
maintain safety and security for the public, and the airspace above.
