WHY DOESN’T IT WORK?

WHY CAN’T I GET A MOBILE SIGNAL IN MY BUILDING?

THERE COULD BE MANY REASONS WHY YOU CAN’T GET MOBILE SIGNAL IN YOUR BUILDING,
FROM THE WINDOW AND BUILDING MATERIALS TO THE LAY OUT AND THE ENVIRONMENT THAT
YOU’RE IN, AS WELL AS HIGH POPULATION DENSITY. EVEN THE LEAVES ON THE TREES CAN
HAVE AN IMPACT.

A CONSISTENT, RELIABLE MOBILE SIGNAL IS SOMETHING WE TAKE FOR GRANTED UNLESS WE
CAN’T GET ONE. IT IS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE MAJOR NETWORK OPERATORS (MNOS) TO
PROVIDE EXTERNAL COVERAGE TO 98% OF THE UK BUT IT IS NOT THEIR RESPONSIBILITY TO
ENSURE THAT THIS TRANSLATES TO COVERAGE INSIDE BUILDINGS, WHERE A NUMBER OF
FACTORS CAN AFFECT THE QUALITY OF THE SIGNAL, THIS IS WHERE PAN RF COMES IN BY
PROVIDING BESPOKE SOLUTIONS FOR IMPROVING INDOOR MOBILE COVERAGE.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

HOW CAN I IMPROVE MOBILE STRENGTH?

 * Toggle aeroplane mode or reboot your phone.
 * Change your network mode.
 * Use Wi-Fi calling.
 * Get a signal booster from your network provider.
 * Install a cell phone signal booster.

HOW DO PHONE SIGNAL BOOSTERS WORK?

A phone signal booster works by pulling in your current outside signal, boosting
it, and rebroadcasting it into chosen areas.

The booster usually consists of three parts: an outside antenna to capture the
weak cell signal, an amplifier to boost the weak signal, and an inside
antenna to rebroadcast the enhanced signal inside the area.

Phone signal boosters can help you improve your cell coverage in areas where the
signal is weak or blocked by walls or other obstacles. However, they cannot
create a new signal where there is none. You need at least one bar of coverage
outside your building for the booster to work.

HOW DO I IMPROVE THE SIGNAL IN MY BUILDING?

There are different ways to improve cell signal in a building, depending on the
size, structure, and location of the building. One way is to use a cellular
booster solution that captures, amplifies, and distributes the signal from a
nearby cell tower. Another way is to use a professional mobile signal boosting
system with at least two bars of signal outside the building or on the roof.

CAN I BOOST 5G ACROSS ALL NETWORKS?

One way to boost your 5G signal is to use a 5G signal booster, which is a device
that captures, amplifies, and distributes the signal from a nearby 5G
tower. However, not all signal boosters are compatible with 5G, and you need to
ensure that the booster you choose supports the 5G frequencies used by your
network provider. To boost 5G signals from all network operators will depend on
the booster you choose to use and the configuration of the local networks; as
Mobile operators race to deploy 5G across the country, there will be an
increased chance of having 5G boosted.

HOW CAN I BOOST MY 4G MOBILE SIGNAL?

One way to boost your 4G signal is to use a 4G signal booster, which is a device
that captures, amplifies, and distributes the signal from a nearby 4G
tower. However, not all signal boosters are legal or compatible with 4G, and you
need to make sure that the booster you choose is Ofcom-approved and supports the
4G frequencies used by your network provider.

Another way to boost your 4G signal is to use an external antenna for your 4G
device, which can improve the reception and transmission of the 4G
signal. However, this will reduce the mobility of your 4G handset as it will be
fixed to the external antenna.  This is useful for Fixed Wireless Access, as the
external antenna can be permanently connected to your 4G router.

ARE MOBILE SIGNAL BOOSTERS LEGAL IN THE UK?

Mobile signal boosters can improve your mobile coverage in those areas where the
signal is weak, inside a house or office building. However, not all mobile
signal boosters are legal in the UK, and you must be careful about which ones
you buy and use.

According to Ofcom, the UK’s communications regulator, mobile signal boosters
are subject to the Wireless Telegraphy Act of 2006, which prohibits using any
radio equipment that may cause interference or harm to other radio spectrum
users.

In April 2018, Ofcom introduced new regulations allowing you to use specific
mobile signal repeaters without needing a licence, provided they meet specific
technical requirements.

These include:

 * Static indoor repeaters that improve coverage inside a building. They must
operate on a single network with a maximum gain of 70 dB.
 * Low-gain mobile repeaters that improve coverage inside a moving vehicle. They
must operate on a single network with a maximum gain of 23 dB.
 * Smart repeaters that directly boost the primary mobile signal. They must
operate on multiple networks with a maximum gain of 80 dB.

You can find a legal mobile signal repeaters list on Ofcom’s website. You can
also check with your network provider if they offer approved devices or services
to improve indoor coverage.

WHAT SHOULD I CONSIDER WHEN CHOOSING A MOBILE BOOSTER?

Some of the factors to consider when choosing a mobile booster are:

 * Coverage area: Consider the size of the area you need to cover.
 * Carrier compatibility: Make sure the booster is compatible with your carrier
   and the frequencies they use.
 * Type of booster: There are different types of boosters available, such as
static indoor repeaters, low-gain mobile repeaters, and intelligent
   repeaters.

DO CELL PHONE SIGNAL BOOSTERS REALLY WORK?

Cell phone signal boosters work if there is some signal outside; they are
compatible with your carrier and network and installed correctly. They can help
you eliminate dropped calls, slow data speeds, and unsent texts in areas where
the signal could be more robust.
