Another episode of 'Secrets...' this time, we went up to Scotland, to ride on
the brilliant Glasgow Subway system with its fifteen stops to see what things we
could spot that you might not have known about or missed. And having done all
this, it should all change in the next couple of years in 2020, when brand new
driverless trains come onto the system, and the whole subway is upgraded again!
Read about that here: http://www.spt.co.uk/subway/modernisation/ Special thanks
to Kirsty, for her excellent local local knowledge without which it wouldn't
have been possible!

Today we take a look at the Glasgow Subway which operates in the city of Glasgow
in Scotland, UK. The system consists of a single 10.5 kilometer long loop line,
which runs around the city center. The counterclockwise direction is referred to
as “Inner Circle,” while the clockwise direction is the “Outer Circle.” The
Glasgow Subway is actually the third-oldest in the world (after the London
Underground and the Budapest Metro), and it opened in December 1896. It may very
well also be the tiniest in the world. The tunnels have a diameter of only 3.35
meters and the carriages are even substantially smaller than those of the deep
lines in the London Underground. Unless you’re sitting, you will probably have
to duck your head while in the cars. Many stations have a single center
platform, which is also quite narrow. I found this system really fascinating.
This film travels along the Inner Circle, starting and ending at St Enoch
Station, which is located at the main shopping street in the city center. The
film conveys a good impression of the tiny trains and the small stations. Enjoy,
and don’t become claustrophobic! Filmed on 15 July, 2015. Shot on iPhone 6+.

This weeks video features an underground system I've never ventured on before -
the Glasgow Subway. I was up in the city for a couple of days and this was on my
'to do' list but, as I was also travelling out of the city, the SPT Daytripper
ticket enabled me to do this plus other trips for a single fee. If you want a
flavour of the subway, its trains and some of its stations, please enjoy this
video. I hope it encourages you to use the transport as an easy and efficient
way to see the city. As always, I would really appreciate your comments (good
and bad) especially if you have any experience of the line and its historical
detail. Thanks very much to all who have subscribed to my channel so far. It's
all my own work and your support really encourages me to improve what I do.

https://www.instagram.com/judithschooling/ The Glasgow Subway is an underground
metro line in Glasgow, Scotland. Opened on 14 December 1896, it is the
third-oldest underground metro system in the world after the London Underground
and the Budapest Metro. It is also one of the very few railways in the world
with a track running gauge of 4 ft (1,219 mm). Formerly a cable railway, the
Subway was later electrified, but its twin circular lines were never expanded.
The line was originally known as the Glasgow District Subway, but was later
renamed Glasgow Subway Railway. It was so called when taken over by the Glasgow
Corporation who renamed it the Glasgow Underground in 1936. Despite this
rebranding, many Glaswegians continued to refer to the network as "the Subway".
In 2003 the name "Subway" was officially readopted by its operator, the
Strathclyde Partnership for Transport (SPT). A £40,000 study examining the
feasibility of an expansion into the city’s south side was conducted in 2005
while a further commitment from Labour in 2007 to extend to the East End also to
no avail. The system is not the oldest underground railway in Glasgow: that
distinction belongs to a 3.1 mi (5.0 km) section of the Glasgow City and
District Railway opened in 1863, now part of the North Clyde Line of the
suburban railway network, which runs in a sub-surface tunnel under the city
centre between High Street and west of Charing Cross. Another major section of
underground suburban railway line in Glasgow is the Argyle Line, which was
formerly part of the Glasgow Central Railway. The Subway runs from 06:30 to
23:40 Monday to Saturday and 10:00 to 18:12 on Sunday.

I visited Innotrans 2018, where the new train that it scheduled to come to the
Glasgow Subway in 2020 was on display, and it seemed rude not to make a quick
video about it ... The trains will be fully wheelchair accessible (using St
Enoch and Govan stations), have 4 cars instead of 3, and you can look right out
of the front of them due to a lack of driver! More here:

In the early hours of the 5th December 2021 a brand new train unit manufactured
by Stadler entered the Glasgow subway tunnel for the first time and reached
Govan station on the outer circle. Stadler is in partnership with Hitachi Rail
STS on the Glasgow Subway Project. 3ECO Ltd., as a subcontractor to Hitachi Rail
STS, supported the Operational Safety element by providing the operational
procedure and some of the operational staff as well for this event. This was a
great achievement by Hitachi Rail-Stadler which marks a significant step forward
towards starting the dynamic tests in the tunnel. more at

GLASGOW

Coordinates: 55°51′29″N 4°15′32″W / 55.858°N 4.259°W / 55.858; -4.259

Glasgow (/ˈɡlɑːzɡoʊ, ˈɡlæ-, -s-/ GLA(H)Z-goh, GLA(H)S-goh;Scots: Glesga;
Scottish Gaelic: Glaschu [ˈkl̪ˠas̪xu]) is the largest city in Scotland, and the
third largest in the United Kingdom (after London and Birmingham). Historically
part of Lanarkshire, it is situated on the River Clyde in the country's West
Central Lowlands. Inhabitants of the city are referred to as Glaswegians.

Glasgow grew from a small rural settlement on the River Clyde to become the
largest seaport in Britain. Expanding from the medieval bishopric and royal
burgh, and the later establishment of the University of Glasgow in the 15th
century, it became a major centre of the Scottish Enlightenment in the 18th
century. From the 18th century the city also grew as one of Great Britain's main
hubs of transatlantic trade with North America and the West Indies.

With the onset of the Industrial Revolution, the population and economy of
Glasgow and the surrounding region expanded rapidly to become one of the world's
pre-eminent centres of chemicals, textiles and engineering; most notably in the
shipbuilding and marine engineering industry, which produced many innovative and
famous vessels. Glasgow was the "Second City of the British Empire" for much of
the Victorian era and Edwardian period, although many cities argue the title was
theirs.

GLASGOW (CAMBRIDGE, MARYLAND)

Glasgow is a historic home located at Cambridge, Dorchester County, Maryland. It
is a Federal style, gable-front, 2 1⁄2-story brick house built about 1792.
Attached is a 1 1⁄2-story frame wing dating from the early 20th century. Local
history sometimes holds that the home was the birthplace of William Vans Murray,
but land records and Murray's biographical data both indicate that it is
unlikely that it was ever his home. It is possible, however, that Murray stayed
there for some time after his return from his service as foreign minister in the
Netherlands, with his first cousin William Murray Robertson, the owner at the
time.

It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1976.

GLASGOW (SCOTTISH PARLIAMENT ELECTORAL REGION)

Glasgow is one of the eight electoral regions of the Scottish Parliament. Nine
of the parliament's 73 first past the post constituencies are sub-divisions of
the region and it elects seven of the 56 additional-member Members of the
Scottish Parliament (MSPs). Thus it elects a total of 16 MSPs.

CONSTITUENCIES AND COUNCIL AREAS

2011–

As a result of the First Periodic Review of Scottish Parliament Boundaries the
boundaries of the region and constituencies were redrawn for the 2011 Scottish
Parliament election.

1999–2011

In terms of first past the post constituencies the region included:

The constituencies were created with the names and boundaries of Westminster
constituencies, as existing in 1999. Scottish Westminster constituencies were
mostly replaced with new constituencies in 2005. Holyrood constituencies were
unaltered.

Nine of the constituencies are entirely within the Glasgow City council area.
The Rutherglen constituency includes a north-eastern area of the South
Lanarkshire council area. Also, although central with respect to the region and
entirely within the city area, Shettleston is in the south-east of the city
area, on its boundary with the South Lanarkshire area.

The Subway runs from 06:30 to
23:40 Monday to Saturday and 10:00 to 18:12 on Sunday.

https://www.instagram.com/judithschooling/ The Glasgow Subway is an underground
metro line in Glasgow, Scotland.

Today we take a look at the Glasgow Subway which operates in the city of
Glasgow in Scotland, UK. The system consists of a single 10.5 kilometer long
loop line, which runs around the city center. The counterclockwise direction
is referred to as “Inner Circle,” while the clockwise direction is the “Outer
Circle.” The Glasgow Subway is actually the third-oldest in the world (after
the London Underground and the Budapest Metro), and it opened in December
1896. It may very well also be the tiniest in the world. The tunnels have a
diameter of only 3.35 meters and the carriages are even substantially smaller
than those of the deep lines in the London Underground. Unless you’re
sitting, you will probably have to duck your head while in the cars. Many
stations have a single center platform, which is also quite narrow. I found
this system really fascinating. This film travels along the Inner Circle,
starting and ending at St Enoch Station, which is located at the main
shopping street in the city center. The film conveys a good impression of the
tiny trains and the small stations. Enjoy, and don’t become claustrophobic!

   - the Glasgow Subway. I was up in the city for a couple of days and this was
on my 'to do' list but, as I was also travelling out of the city, the SPT

Today we take a look at the Glasgow Subway which operates in the city of
Glasgow in Scotland, UK. The system consists of a single 10.5 kilometer
long loop line, which runs around the city center. The counterclockwise
direction is referred to as “Inner Circle,” while the clockwise direction
is the “Outer Circle.” The Glasgow Subway is actually the third-oldest in
the world (after the London Underground and the Budapest Metro), and it
opened in December 1896. It may very well also be the tiniest in the world.
The tunnels have a diameter of only 3.35 meters and the carriages are even
substantially smaller than those of the deep lines in the London
Underground. Unless you’re sitting, you will probably have to duck your
head while in the cars. Many stations have a single center platform, which
is also quite narrow. I found this system really fascinating. This film
travels along the Inner Circle, starting and ending at St Enoch Station,
which is located at the main shopping street in the city center. The film
conveys a good impression of the tiny trains and the small stations. Enjoy,
and don’t become claustrophobic! Filmed on 15 July, 2015. Shot on iPhone 6+.

Subway is an underground metro line in Glasgow, Scotland. Opened on 14
December 1896, it is the third-oldest underground metro system in the
world after the London Underground and the Budapest Metro. It is also one of
the very few railways in the world with a track running gauge of 4 ft (1,219

twin circular lines were never expanded. The line was originally known as
the Glasgow District Subway, but was later renamed Glasgow Subway
Railway. It was so called when taken over by the Glasgow Corporation who
renamed it the Glasgow Underground in 1936. Despite this rebranding, many
Glaswegians continued to refer to the network as "the Subway". In 2003 the
name "Subway" was officially readopted by its operator, the
Strathclyde Partnership for Transport (SPT). A £40,000 study examining
the feasibility of an expansion into the city’s south side was conducted
in 2005 while a further commitment from Labour in 2007 to extend to the East

Glasgow City and District Railway opened in 1863, now part of the North Clyde
Line of the suburban railway network, which runs in a sub-surface tunnel
under the city centre between High Street and west of Charing Cross.
Another major section of underground suburban railway line in Glasgow
is the Argyle Line, which was formerly part of the Glasgow Central
Railway. The Subway runs from 06:30 to 23:40 Monday to Saturday and 10:00

I visited Innotrans 2018, where the new train that it scheduled to come to
the Glasgow Subway in 2020 was on display, and it seemed rude not to make a
quick video about it ... The trains will be fully wheelchair accessible
(using St Enoch and Govan stations), have 4 cars instead of 3, and you can
look right out of the front of them due to a lack of driver! More here:

Thought I'd shoot a video of my first journey on Glasgow's underground
system as I'd never been on an underground train outside London before.

In the early hours of the 5th December 2021 a brand new train unit
manufactured by Stadler entered the Glasgow subway tunnel for the first
time and reached Govan station on the outer circle. Stadler is in
partnership with Hitachi Rail STS on the Glasgow Subway Project. 3ECO
Ltd., as a subcontractor to Hitachi Rail STS, supported the Operational
Safety element by providing the operational procedure and some of the
operational staff as well for this event. This was a great achievement by
Hitachi Rail-Stadler which marks a significant step forward towards
starting the dynamic tests in the tunnel. more at https:// 3eco. uk/ 2021/

GLASGOW

Coordinates: 55°51′29″N 4°15′32″W / 55.858°N 4.259°W / 55.858; -4.259

Glasgow (/ˈɡlɑːzɡoʊ, ˈɡlæ-, -s-/ GLA(H)Z-goh, GLA(H)S-goh;Scots: Glesga;

Glasgow was the "Second City of the British Empire" for much of
the Victorian era and Edwardian period, although many cities argue the title was
theirs.
