NEW JERSEY APRN COLLABORATIVE PRACTICE AGREEMENT

«Patients deserve physician-led care, we can`t allow less. Thanks to ongoing
lobbying by WADA and the Medical Society of New Jersey, NJ lawmakers decided
this week not to proceed with a bill that would have allowed advanced,
practically registered nurses to prescribe without medical
supervision. Integration into practice – staff and patients should be informed
that the addition of an advanced practice nurse will improve services. Copies of
articles supporting the use of professionals may be provided to staff and

advanced practical care are available from the American Academy of Nurse
Practitioners (AANP) www.aanp.org. Both the nurse and the physician should
discuss how patients are introduced into the concept. Patients may be able to
determine who they see, depending on the type of visit, or to be automatically
redirected to a specific health care provider. New Jersey does not explicitly
authorize the practice of teledentistei. New Jersey does not allow dental
hygienists to practice with direct access. Following the release of the report,
many states either confirmed their criteria for full practical authority for
NPAs or amended their laws to give nurses (PNN) full practice and regulatory
authority.

Other nurses have found that AFNs naturally work with a large number of other
providers – which they promised would not change if the law were passed. This
process is described in the Statutes and Regulations, Board of Nursing (see
links above). The RN license and APN status certification must be renewed every
two years. A renewal envelope is sent by the NJ Board of Nursing before the
expiry date of your RN license and APN certificate. React immediately, as you
cannot legally practice in the state without a current RN license and current
APN certificate. «APNs practice throughout the state and are particularly
critical in rural and urban areas, where there is a shortage of doctors,»
Gillespie added. The Senate Public Health Committee approved a bill to abolish
the so-called Common Protocol – the written agreement with a doctor that now
allows advance practice nurses to be prescribed in the Garden State, with
near-unanimous support monday, after several hours of passionate testimony for
and against the controversial legislation. The measure does not yet have a
hearing in the Assembly and still has to overcome other obstacles before it can
become law. Appropriate follow-up is established at the practical level between
the doctor and the PA. N.J. Rev Stat. 45:9-27.18 All APNs must receive and use
their own Medicare number.

Once this has been done, Medicare reimburses the authorized benefits at 85% of
the price paid to the doctor for similar benefits. APNs can also get an
«incident to» refund from the doctor and get a refund at a rate of 100%. This is
not recommended, however, as Medicare has become extremely severe when it comes
to having the physician present and directly involved in any treatment that is
considered an «incident», and there are now an alarming number of cases where
Medicare has successfully ordered offices to reimburse them if the «incident»
services have not been performed exactly as required. For this responsibility,
doctors – who are not obliged to share the priority area of NPS – can charge
nurses tens of thousands of dollars a year; on average, APNs pay $500 per month
for the agreement. Nurses were reckless on Monday about the financial burden on
their practice and the struggle to find a doctor who agrees to support them.
