culture and heritage during the summer solstice because of its significance as
the longest day of the year.

Tomorrow, on National Indigenous Peoples Day, a luncheon will be held at Juniper
house from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. for the entire Memorial community.

Congratulations to Katherine Dibbon, winner of the Chancellor's Undergraduate
Award and Fry Family Foundation Leadership Award!

Katherine graduated with a joint bachelor of arts in political science and a
bachelor of science in chemistry. During her time at Memorial, Katherine:
⭐ Assisted new students in their transition to university while working with the
Student Experience Office.
⭐ Mentored students through her involvement with Women in Science and
Engineering Undergraduate Society, the Transforming our Horizons Scholarship
Committee, the Faculty of Science Faculty Committee and the Department of
Chemistry Research Labs

Katherine was also:
⭐ Ambassador for Memorial as the Government Advocacy Specialist for World Vision
Canada’s National Youth Council
⭐ Team Lead for Communications and social media for the International Younger
Chemists Network
⭐ Canadian representative on UN Women’s Generation Equality Youth Task Force
⭐ Co-Chair of the Premier’s Youth Council and Co-Chair of the City of St. John’s
Youth Advisory Committee
⭐ Represented Memorial through the Fulbright Killam Fellowship, the Amgen
Scholars Program and the International Younger Chemists Network.

Katherine will represent our province as a @rhodestrust scholar at Oxford
University in the fall.

Congratulations to Ali Salman for winning the Governor General’s Silver Medal
for Academic Excellence (Undergraduate)!

Ali has been recognized with several awards since beginning his program at
Memorial, including:
⭐ The International Undergraduate Academic Award in 2021, 2022 and 2023
⭐ The Dr. H. J. Anderson Departmental Award in Chemistry
⭐ The Dean of Science Book Prize
⭐ The Beatrice Hunter Cancer Research Institute D.W. Hoskin Summer Studentship
Award
⭐ The University Medal for Academic Excellence in Biology

In the fall, Ali intends to begin a master of science in neuroscience and hopes
to continue a joint MD and PhD in neuroscience at Memorial. His research will be
dedicated to neurodegenerative diseases, particularly Alzheimer’s Disease.
