THE NEURO-ENGINEERING LAB

The lab specializes in neuronal interfaces, in particular we study new micro and
nano devices aimed to interface directly and indeirectly with the brain. Current
projects include: novel materials for artificial retina applications, and skin
electronics for electrophysiology.

The lab was established in 2003  as one of six core laboratories of Tel-Aviv
University Center for Nanoscience and Nanotechnology. The lab is also
affiliated with the Sagol School of Neuroscience and the Tel Aviv University
School of EE. Support to the lab has been available through grants from the:
ISF, ERC, GIF, Israeli MOS, Israeli Ministry of Industry and Trade, and
Industrial partnerships.

ELECTROPHYSIOLOGY MEETS PRINTED ELECTRONICS: THE BEGINNING OF A BEAUTIFUL
FRIENDSHIP

In this Perspective paper, we focus on the advantages of electrodes printed on
soft films as manifested in signal transmission at the electrode-skin interface,
electrode-skin stability, and user convenience during electrode placement while
achieving prolonged use. Customizing electrode array designs and implementing
blind source separation methods can also improve recording resolution, reduce
variability between individuals and minimize signal cross-talk between nearby
electrodes. Finally, we outline several important applications in the field of
neuroscience and how each can benefit from the convergence of electrophysiology
and printed electronics.
