who gives me loads of head scratches everytime they see me”

COMMUNITY SPOTLIGHT

“I really have loved studying geology. But right now, I really feel the need to
pursue music,” says Zoe Levitt ’22, a sexual assault survivor who found solace
in songwriting. “I hope that sharing my songs can bring healing to others as it
has for me.”

#THISISMIT

Via @mitstudents on Instagram: “Of all the sleepless nights at MIT, these last
few have been among the best. Congratulations to all the graduates that walked
this weekend, and thank you for all of the many ways you’ve touched the lives of
this community. Watch out world, we’re coming”

IN THE MEDIA

Kristala Prather spoke with Radio Boston about using synthetic biology to
develop materials that function like plastic, but don’t rely on fossil fuels.
The goal, she said, is to “pre-design them such that at their end of life they
are much more environmentally responsible.”

FEATURED VIDEO

In 2020, Sangeeta Bhatia, Susan Hockfield, and Nancy Hopkins launched the Future
Founders Initiative to encourage female faculty to start biotechnology
companies. “The models can be different,” Bhatia says, “if we participate and
change the game.”

COMMENCEMENT

In a special ceremony on Saturday, poet Kealoha Wong ’99 urged the classes of
2020 and 2021 to “zoom out” and consider their lives within the enormity of the
universe. More than 2,500 alumni returned to campus for the festivities.
