ANGELA’S ICE CREAM CO-OWNER: “THERE’S SOMETHING ABOUT THIS PLACE. THERE’S THE
BEAUTY, THE CONNECTION TO THE LARGER BAY AREA – PEOPLE IN THIS REGION VOTE WITH
THEIR DOLLARS”

At the other end of that Throckmorton Ave. block, there’s also no doubt that
another relative newcomer, blockbuster hangout haven for a slightly different
clientele is Angela’s Organic Ice Cream, the latest edition in a long line of
fantastic ice cream shops in the 94941 (shout out to Baskin Robbins’ incredibly
long run ‘til it closed in 2011.) In each case, the lines out the door say it
all. Angela’s Organic Ice Cream was originally founded in Petaluma as Lala’s
Creamery. Angela Garat and her son, Ignacio, purchased the business and recipes
in 2017, and it’s been full speed ahead ever since. There is MUCH more to come,
as you’ll read here.

MARIN COUNTY SUPE VOTED UNANIMOUSLY ON A LETTER TO BCDC CALLING FOR A PILOT
STUDY ON THE EFFECTS OF REMOVING THE BIKE LANE ON THE RICHMOND-SAN RAFAEL BRIDGE
FOUR DAYS A WEEK ON A TRIAL BASIS

Moulton-Peters, the county’s representative on BCDC, acknowledged the results of
the UC Berkeley study, but added, “The lived experience of people that we have
heard from in this county and elsewhere is very different. We need to make a
more reliable commute for the people coming from the East Bay to work in Marin.”
Additional changes are planned for the bridge, including removing the toll
booths at east end and reinstating a previous high occupancy vehicle lane on the
westbound upper deck. Planners are also studying the possibility of using the
multiuse lane as an additional lane for carpools and buses.

TRIBE RISING STEPS UP ONCE AGAIN FOR SANTAL STUDENTS IN GURAP, INDIA, WITH A
‘CONCERT TO CELEBRATE GRATITUDE AND HOPE,’ SET FOR SATURDAY, NOV. 16TH, 4-6PM AT
OUR LADY OF MOUNT CARMEL CHURCH

Annette Venables: “Please come out and join us for this fun event! This will be
a very eclectic show with performances by local icons and favorites, Indian
music, Bulgarian music and dance, a youth a cappella group, and a few surprises.
The Santal culture is deeply steeped in music and dance. I can’t think of a more
fun way to honor our students and help build up our scholarship fund than a
concert celebrating diverse voices. As we enter the holiday season—let’s tune
our voices and our hearts to gratitude and hope. Thanks to you, our students
have a lot to celebrate too!”

FACING COST HEADWINDS, MARINE LAYER GROUP PIVOTS TO AN ALTERNATIVE MODEL FOR
MASSIVE UNOCCUPIED BOFA BUILDING IN THE HEART OF TOWN, EYES TURNING IT INTO
RETAIL USE ALONG WITH FLEXIBLE WORK AND EVENT SPACE

Aimlessly drifting tumbleweeds don’t spend much time in the 94941. When an
intensely-felt Mill Valley controversy arises, our community engages, often
deeply so, to say the least. Few subjects have stirred the proverbial pot in
town more than the June 2023 proposal for the membership-based Treehouse from
Marine Layer founders Adam Lynch and Mike Natenshon, part of the team leasing
and developing the former bank building at 60 Throckmorton Ave., all of whom
live in Mill Valley.

COUNTY’S HOPES FOR AN INNOVATIVE PROPOSAL TO SPLIT MARIN CITY AFFORDABLE HOUSING
BETWEEN 150 SHORELINE HWY. IN TAM JUNCTION & 825 DRAKE AVE. IN MARIN CITY HITS
ANOTHER SIGNIFICANT SNAG

Caleb Roope, chief executive officer of the Pacific Companies, the project’s
developer. “That isn’t how we see it.” Roope said the bonds were issued long ago
and purchased by Citibank. He said the ruling has failed to shake Citibank’s
confidence in the project. “Everybody takes for granted that you’re not going to
be able to unwind approvals that have already happened,” Roope said. “The ruling
doesn’t have an effect on what we’re doing and our ability to proceed.” Roope
said his company owns the land in Marin City and has all of the needed
approvals.
